He heard the returning approach, where one had left, four returned. His grin was feral as he waited deep within the shadows. They would not find him as easy to destroy as they might think.

The Tremere was almost past all rational thought when a soft hesitant voice called out to him.
Breath was forced into his lungs as the shock of hearing her voice filled him. Dillon stilled, not moving, as confusion and suspicion filled him.

She should be dead, by all rights so should he. It was forbidden for Camerilla and Sabbat to associate the way they had. It had to be a trick, the Archbishop had decided to end his existence after all, and to use Isi as bate.

It was all Dillon could come up with to help him comprehend what was happening. His eyes closed as pain like he had never before experienced rushed though him.

Isi, his beloved, she would be his final death. His head dropped forward until his chin touched his chest as he came to grip with this new reality. It was unlikely they would let her live, after they had destroyed him.

His head popped up and his eyes flew open as a new more insidious thought filled him, that is unless she had agreed to be the bate and that is why she was alive at this moment. She WAS Sabbat…..

Her voice was like a sirens song to him and involuntarily he took a step forward, only to still again, as he realized what he would be doing should he come out of the shadows and into their sight.

Was he ready to forsake this unlife for but one more moment of holding her in his arms. The thought had not finished when his feet answered for him. Slowly Dillon walked out of the shadows and stood before the woman that had captured his long dead heart.

His eyes went from her fearful face to that of the Archbishops. He didn’t look at the others with them. When no one moved, Dillon straightened and deliberately walked to Isi, pulling her into his arms without hesitation.

His head lowered and he buried his face in her hair as his eyes closed in relief of her being alive and in preparation for his demise. Dillon didn’t say a word as he awaited the blow that would take him from her for eternity.

Feeling his arms around her, she closed her eyes and wrapped her arms tightly around his neck. Whispering softly, she repeated his name over and over again. Finally, she lifted her head from his chest and looked into his eyes. "Ah love yew, Dillon...that man ov'uh the'uh," she nodded over her shoulder to Archbishop Praetor, "he brought me he'uh so Ah could see yew..." She sniffed and wiped her eyes a bit, leaning back from him. A smile of innocence creased her lips as she spoke. "He said he'd adopt me as his daught'uh..."

He said he'd adopt her as his daughter and childe, but she still had no idea what that meant. "Ah'm still sca'uhed, Dillon," she whispered in confession. Her whole body trembled as she stood within Dillon's arms. She didn't want to let him go...

All her life, she'd been denied the things that made her happy. They'd been taken from her by her Father and Jefferson. She'd resigned herself to staying with Jefferson for the rest of her life--even tried to convince herself that she loved him. But it was for naught. She didn't love him.

And when it came down to the final threshold, she'd been the one to take his unlife from him--and she didn't even flinch. Not like when she'd taken the life of the child. She lowered her head as grief wracked her again. Had she told Dillon? She thought she had. He seemed, however, more concerned with who embraced her than with who she'd killed.

"Dillon...a'he we ev'uh gonna be togeth'uh? Ah don't want to leave yew...Ah'd rath'uh die..." She looked into his eyes, her dark orbs sparkled with fear and love and anxiety and hatred. She only wanted one thing out of life. One thing. She'd never asked for anything else or anything more.

All she wanted was happiness.

He didn't much like what had happened to the two youngsters either, but he could understand the madness that drove Dillon to the point of wanting death - not only his own, but that of others as well - especially if he thought that said others were there to kill him.

Laying a gentle hand on Isiladura's shoulder so that he could see Dillon, only many years of practice kept him from reacting to the inevitability that lay in Dillon's eyes.

Jerking his head in the templars' direction, he was glad that his word was law enough that they didn't question him even if they thought him mad.

He waited long enough for them to depart before turning his attention to the two vampires that he was with.

Softly, so as not to set off an unwarranted reaction in Dillon, he told the man, "There will be no more death tonight. McClintock has been punished."

Nodding towards Isi, in Dillon's arms, he said, "So was she - which I think you know - but there was no other way to make sure she lived."

Kaeden paused and thought for a second.

"I'm not entirely sure I can trust you," he told Dillon. "I can understand the madness, boy, but I still don't know if I can trust you alone with her. However, I think you both need the chance at the moment."

Stepping away from both of them, he heard what Isi said to Dillon before he blended into the shadows of a nearby alley, leaving them with a whispered, "I will be nearby though and she'll be needing to leave soon."

It was a trick. It had to be. Dillon’s stoic expression never changed as he listened to the older vampires words. He noted the templers leave, how be it reluctantly. His dark gaze followed Kaeden’s every move.

Dillon was a young enough vampire that he knew he couldn’t successfully take on the Sabbot and win. The words flowing from the mans mouth didn’t make sense. He slowly shook his head, though he made no other move.

His arms remained wrapped around Isi, even though he waited to be ripped away from her.

It wasn’t until Kaeden vanished into the shadows that Dillon realized that he was still left among the ‘living’ and Isi was still in his arms. He closed his eyes and lowered his forehead to hers.

“I…don’t understand.” He said softly. “The Sabbot and Camarilla are sworn enemies…” His eyes opened. The Tremere drew back to look down into his beloveds face, for perhaps the last time. Gently he brought his hands up to cup her cheeks, his thumbs running over her lips and he studied her.

“I love you.” He murmured softly. “I wish…” Dillon broke off his eyes darting to the shadows then back to her. “You have to go Isiladura…both our lives depend upon you obey him…”

Dillon lowered his head and captured her lips in a long passionate kiss. He was trembling when he lifted his head and with a hold that bordered on desperation he drew her tightly to him. “I don’t know if…when we will see each other again.” He drew back and looked down at her his black eyes intense with emotion. “I WILL contact you…somehow…someway.”

Reluctantly Dillon drew back, every muscle in his body ridged with the pain of parting from her. His eyes darted to the shadows again, still not sure if this wasn’t but a trap. When no one appeared he looked back to Isi, sorrow and pain reflected briefly in his gaze before his stoic mask dropped.

”Go.” He breathed quietly.
