[NEWera logo fades to black.]
[Black fades to a camera roving in a hotel lobby.]
[The camera turns a corner and approaches the front desk, where Eliza Roddick is standing, talking to the desk clerk.]
[The conversation can't be overheard.]
[As the camera gets closer, Eliza looks over her shoulder and notices the camera, and seems spooked by it.]
[Eliza turns and starts walking briskly down a hallway.]
[The camera follows.]
[Eliza tries to quickly dart into an elevator but the cameraperson is too quick, and jumps in with her. Eliza looks into the camera, visibly annoyed.]
ELIZA: Go away! She doesn't want to talk to you! She won't even leave her room, she, like, is making me run all her errands and complain to the front desk and... Edit this out! She'll yell at me for saying anything!
[The camera brooks no response. Eliza rolls her eyes in an exaggerated huff.]
[The elevator reaches its stop, and Eliza steps out, trying to get away from the camera. She fakes left then turns right, and breaks into a run.]
[The camera jogs after her.]
[Eliza finally stops at the door to one of the suites, kind of out of breath, holding her side.]
[Eliza bangs on the door.]
ELIZA: Huff huff... Let me in! Quick! There's a camera! It won't leave me alone! Huff...
[There's a long pause.]
[Eliza bangs on the door again.]
[Another long pause.]
[Finally, Lana Wu opens the door and pokes her head out.]
LANA: There's a camera?
[Eliza points at the camera, and Lana turns to look. Both of them stare into the camera for a moment.]
LANA: Purity says to get in here. She has some stuff she wants to say.
[Lana opens the door all the way, and Eliza scurries in. The camera follows.]
[Inside the hotel suite, Purity is sitting in a chair in the back of the room. Andrew Freyling is standing, ready, looking past the camera.]
[The camera turns to observe Lana Wu closing the door and locking the lock.]
[It turns back to Freyling, and then to Purity sitting in the chair. Purity has the No Limits title belt in her lap.]
PURITY: So hey. I've been hearing rumors lately. Rumors about a friend'a mine. Well... not a friend. More like... the guy who I'm going to wrench the World title away from. I hear he's unhappy. He's SAD. And he's on the verge of leaving. You know how I heard this? Eric Donavan and Tommy Zeller. Two guys tryin' to get themselves over by makin' it out like they CARE, like, so much. They care enough about how mad and sad and frustrated Romeo Stylez is to hammer it home, over and over, how it's everyone else's fault, and they're gonna avenge it, or whatever. I mean, it can't be that they're just tryin' to get themselves over by makin' themselves look bigger than Romeo. They're the guys who stay, after all, who keep up the fight. Which they're remindin' us, every time they flap their lips speakin' for Romeo Stylez. And it can't be that Romeo Stylez is just SCARED.
[Purity shifts the No Limits belt in her lap.]
PURITY: But there it is, kids. Romeo Stylez isn't unhappy. He's not sad. He's not valiantly takin' a stand against the corrupt machine. He's not givin' in. None'a that. He can justify it any way he wants... but he's scared. He's shakin' in his razzles... knowin' that he can't keep that title. Not when the Best in NEWera is nippin' at his heels. And every day I face another opponent is just a stay of execution on the Sensational One's latest title reign. And front an' center, tryin' to exploit this grown man's fear to make himself look bigger... is Tommy Zeller.
[Purity leans in.]
PURITY: THOMAS. Was I supposed to be scared by you lynchin' your fursuit? What message are you tryin' to send? Because you an' that Ted suit? That's how people see you, bud. You can act like you're past it, like you don't care about the fans, but buddy, those fans see you as the goof in the Ted suit. So the image you send to them is you, hangin' from a bridge. An' it's not like you looked like you consciously killed yourself. It's more... a metaphor, for what's gonna happen on Friday night, Tom. Because you don't even realize it, but you're tightenin' the noose around your own neck. Attackin' me after the last show? In my OWN dressing room? Well, first off, Tommy, it don't suit you to go throwin' the word "bitch" around, since it's the best descriptor I can think of for your fightin' style. But I owe you one MAJOR receipt, THOMAS. You are not gonna be able to handle it. And the best part?
[Purity pats her title belt.]
PURITY: No. Limits. That means anything I do to you in that ring? Nice and legal. Anything I do to you OUTSIDE of the ring? Nice and legal. Anything Drew does to you? Legal. Anything we do to you together? Legal. Tommy. If you wanted to piss me off? You shoulda done it in ANY other match, with ANY other stipulation. You were safer in the CELL, Tom. I can do whatever I want to you, up and down the building, out into the street if I feel like it, and no one can do a damn thing to stop me. And who would? Tommy. I live in New York City. I'm stayin' in a hotel here in Manhattan, but I live in Brooklyn. They're my people, Tommy! And you're... you're just Jersey trash. No one's gonna stop me from doing what I feel like doing, Tom. I'm a champion. They know that. They know I deserve this. I earned this.
[Purity leans back in her seat.]
PURITY: Do you deserve this title, Tommy? You said it yourself in your little bear-lynchin' promo. You don't care. You don't care about anything but yourself, even as you rant an' rave about "the administration" or whatever. If you don't care? Tuck your tail between your legs like Romeo and go hide in a hole. Why am I champion, Thomas? Because I care. I care so much. I care about the lineage of this title. I care about the prestige of this title, and buildin' it back up to where it should be, after Jynx LeVeaux couldn't even hold her own against a guy who's a part-timer... at best. I care about NEWera, and I care about givin' the fans the champion that they deserve. I care. And that's why I'm gonna kick your squinty little head off your shoulders.
[Purity draws in a breath.]
PURITY: Because I care about being the Best in NEWera.
[Fade to black.]
