Friday, October 4th. The USF Sun Dome Tampa, Florida
"I must admit, I didn't really see that coming."
Newera Wrestling's newest talent, Alex Evans stands in the locker room alone. We are just 20 minutes removed from his debut match against Sombra Roja. The young competitor put up a great effort, but came up short in the end. That wasn't how Alex wanted to start his NEW career. Sadly, things like this sometimes cannot be helped. Tonight Alex just wasn't the better man.
"I could have won that. I just know I could have."
Alex sighs as he reaches out and grabs his shirt off the bench.
"I don't know what happened out there. I had him right where I wanted him and he found a way to turn the tides."
He shakes his head, before putting the shirt on. Alex looks down at his gym bag and notices a blinking light coming from his cell phone which is sitting on top of it. He reaches down and picks his phone up and goes to read his new text message.
The message is from his girlfriend and CPW competitor, Jaime DiRocco. It reads "Hey, I got a free second during Mayhem and was able to catch your match. I'm sure you're disappointed you didn't win, but you did good. It honestly could have went either way. So, don't be discouraged."
"Well, it's not everyday that somebody gets a compliment from Jaime DiRocco. I guess today hasn't been all that bad."
Alex smiles as he continues to look down at his phone. He puts the phone in his pocket, before reaching for his bag.
"She's right. I shouldn't let this get me down. I did what I set out to do and that was show the NEW fans what I'm all about. I lost a close match to a really game opponent. That's nothing to be ashamed of.
He says to himself, before heading out the door and leaving the locker room.
**** Monday, October 14th. Omni Hotel Atlanta, Georgia
"One of these days, I'll get use to this."
Alex Evans says to himself as he pulls his hood over his head. He walks out the front door of the hotel he is staying at and leaves for his morning jog. This has been his morning ritual for about 6 months now and is something he hates doing with a passion. Alex isn't typically a morning person, but his dedication to to making himself better is what drives him to do this.
He jogs down the crowded Atlanta sidewalk just minding his own business. With his earphones in, he is free from the world around him. That was always the one good thing about Alex's morning jogs. It provided him time to think and put things into perspective. Coming to NEWera was a choice that Alex still wasn't very sure about. He wasn't use to being away from his family and friends for this long. Inside it was killing him, but Alex wasn't about to give up. This was something he felt he needed to do in order to grow as a competitor.
This Friday, Alex steps into a NEW ring for the second time in his life and there was no way he was going to let the result be the same as his first. At New Generation 38, he came up just a little bit short in his match with Sombra Roja. The two men put on a great match, but it just wasn't Alex's night. Sombra Roja claims that after their match last week, Alex Evans is nothing. He thinks that one loss will be enough to keep him from making his mark in NEW. Sombra doesn't know how wrong he is.
At New Generation 39, the Black Sheep will make an impact. Alex isn't going to let one loss define him. When he steps into the ring with Elijah Rose this Friday, Alex will show everybody what he is capable of. Before his first match, Alex promised that everybody in NEW would soon know the last name Evans and that is exactly what he is going to do.
"Elijah Rose better be ready, because this week I am going to prove to Sombra Roja and everybody else that I'm not nameless."
And that as his cousin would say, is an Alex Evans promise.
