The scene opens up with Johnny Bloomers standing in a hallway. He's outside of a door marked "Romeo Stylez" The New Era interviewer knocks on the door, but gets no response.
"Romeo you in there buddy?"
Still no response, but Johnny doesn't give up. He grabs the doorknob, gives it a turn, and slightly opens the door. The room itself is pitch black, as Johnny tries one more time.
"Romeo, it's Johnny. Johnny Bloomers, your best buddy in the whole wide world."
Johnny opens the door completely, the light from the hallway pierce into the darkness of the room, and at first glance it looks empty. But then Johnny's eyes spot something, one foot, barely visible by the light, coming from the corner of the room. Johnny leans in and turns on the lights, and sure enough, Romeo Stylez is seen sitting on the floor, dressed in his wrestling attire with the World Championship laying on his lap.
"What the hell man, why you just sitting here in the dark. I thought we had an interview set up."
Romeo doesn't move. He sits there, completely still, eyes looking down at his title. His voice is low, and raspy, almost a whisper.
"Sorry man, I just didn't see the point of going. I mean you've heard the news, Ross Raines is back on the disabled list. We were set to do battle again, set to finish some business that is long overdue, get some closure if you will on our rocky relationship, and deja freaking vu, he gets hurt and I'm lost in the shuffle.
Johnny can sense Romeo's desperation, and walks into the room, shutting the door behind him. Ofcourse this doesn't mean they're alone, because the camera man is an intruding ASSHOLE! Anyway, Johnny takes a seat next to Romeo, who is clearly feeling pretty down.
It's okay pal, we could have talked about something else if you didn't wanna bring up Ross Raines and his accident." [/b]
From a whisper to a roar, Romeo snaps his head in Johnny's direction and says with a scream.
"It was no friggin' accident Johnny! Somebody took Ross out, they didn't do it in the ring, or an arena, or even in front of a camera. They didn't do it for the fame, or to move up the ranks, they did it just because they could. I've heard rumors it was Kerryn Kali, something about sending a message to Jenni. Between that, and Kyle Travis still rampaging around assaulting whoever he wants, hell Disturbed attacked Kanye West a few weeks back, it's just..."
Romeo's head sinks back down towards his World Championship. He runs his hands across the gold, where his name is engraved into the belt.
"I thought I could be a hero for this company Johnny. I thought I'd win the World Title, and everyone would look up to me. In my dreams, I saw everyone following my lead, competing for the sake of competition. I've won this title Johnny, I won it fair and square, with sheer power of will I defeated James Stall. I've won every match since then, I've defeated The Good Doctor, put down Kyle Travis, even scored a win over the former tag team champions The Wrecking Crew. All these things I've done, and I look around, and New Era Wrestling isn't getting any better."
The World Champion lets out a sigh, and leans his head back against the wall. He closes his eyes, while his buddy Johnny tries to cheer him up.
"Don't be dense RoRo. You lit a spark that lit up this company before you even became World Champion. You've got Jennifer Taylor and Tommy Zeller looking to be heroes like you. People with a dark past like theirs, they need hope more than anyone. You've proven to the fans that people can be friendly, polite, and loving, and still become a champion. Heck The reigning tag team champions are also proof of that, and I'm sure they're glad to have you to help carry the burden of being a good role model. Heck the lessons you taught Tombstone on your way to the title are more important to him now than ever with what has happened with Eric Donavan. You taught the demon from Berlin to walk on the path of righteousness, or to atleast give it a try before smashing someone to pieces."
Without opening his eyes, Romeo responds, his voice being back to that of a defeated whisper.
"All of them Johnny, in one way or another, were already heroes. Jenni a hero to women everywhere, Stoney a hero to his countrymen, and Tommy a hero to former addicts worldwide. Maybe you have some point, perhaps all this effort from me has brought out the best in the good people on the roster. But what else has happened since then? We've got Disturbed and Priest still trying to kill one another, Nightmare assaulting a man's family, Kyle Travis disrespecting everyone whether it's with his words or by assaulting them. Randy attacked a defenseless woman.... AGAIN. I mean there is a small chance I did help bring out the best in half the roster, but I feel like it was at the cost of bringing out the worst in the other half."
Romeo opens his eyes, grabs his World Championship, and pulls it in close, hugging it tightly as Johnny looks on confused.
"I don't know what to do other than sit here in the dark Johnny. I claim to fight for change, but I look around and it's like nothing has changed at all. This company is corrupt and it's spreading from the inside out. We have a boss, who doesn't care about anything other than making a buck and having his ego taken care of. I mean Ross Raines gets hurt, and Mac Danny doesn't do anything to try and find out what happened. Instead, the man cuts Ross from the company, without as much as batting an eyelash. When he found out my opponent wasn't going to be able to compete did he give me a call. Did he reach out and say, hey champ, this is what's going on, and this is how we're going to handle it. No, I didn't find out Ross was hurt until I saw the article on the New Era Wrestling website."
The Sensational One has another sudden change in mood, going from apathetic to fired up. He leaps to his feet, holding his World Champion in his hand, and raising in the air.
"I mean I try to be as humble as I can, but I'm this company's World Champion. You think Mac would show me just a little bit of respect, but no, I can't even get that. The man insults me during every match I have, he doesn't bother to inform me my opponent was hurt, and then he goes one step further and decides I don't need to know who I'll be facing at New TV. How much more do I have to give before things start to change around here Johnny!? I mean there's like, what, forty or so people on the roster. How am I supposed to prepare against forty different people Johnny?
The mood swings continue, as Romeo falls to one knee, lowering the World Title so that it's now touching the floor. Johnny gets up to his feet, and places his hand on Romeo's shoulder.
"Relax man, like you said, you are this company's World Champion. You are the best man on the roster, both inside and outside of the ring. Just prepare yourself for, well yourself. Be the best you the world has ever seen, and have faith that being in shape and having the willpower to win will be enough. If you're going to wear a belt that tells the world that you are the best, you damn well better start acting like you are the best.
"Here's the thing Johnny, I'm a gamer, when things get tough I usually manage to rise to the occasion. But it's not like I'm just naturally wired to perform well during important matches, I spend days preparing for those matches Johnny. I can't just walk into the ring and rely on my skills to pick up the win over anybody, because I don't have any particular skill that is better than anyone else on the roster. I'm not the strongest guy like Disturbed, Maksimillian, or Tombstone. I don't have an insane endurance for pain like Nightmare, Bombtrack, or even James Stall. I'm not quick like most of the women on the roster, or the quicker guys like Kerryn Kali, or Cyril the Magnificent. I'm not a super experienced wrestler who knows all the techniques like Kyle Travis, or Robbie Priest. I just.... I don't excel at anything Johnny."
Romeo gets back up to his feet, and looks Johnny in the eyes.
"I'm a jack of all trades, but that also makes me a master of none. This winning streak I've been on, it's me studying my opponent, knowing them better than they know themselves, and taking the fight to the place they don't want it at. Give me a big guy and I'll run circles around him until he's tired and his power is gone. Give me the speedster and I'll wear him down with submission holds and high impact slams. Book me against a veteran, and I'll take the risk of doing some unconventional techniques in hopes to show him or her something they haven't seen before. I give myself the edge by making sure I'm strongest at where my opponent is weakest, I don't have that going for me this week. I have to prepare for everything, I have to try and stay perfectly well rounded, and I have to be ready for anything. That kind of obstacle Johnny, it's terrifying."
Johnny looks into Romeo's eyes, a few seconds go by in complete silence, then Johnny pulls Romeo in for a hug. With his head buried in Romeo's chest, Johnny continues to comfort his friend the best he can.
Ya know what, you're right, this is the biggest challenge you've ever faced. You might have to face the strongest, quickest, smartest, or most ruthless person on the roster. Hell Mac Danny might even go outside of the company to find you an opponent, or bring in somebody from the past. You could be taking on Xavier Magnus, Spencer Riggs, or some other former World Champion who couldn't hold that belt like you can."
The bromance increases when Johnny steps back, and looks up with tears in his eyes.
"Mac Danny might be against you, this entire roster might be against you, hell it might be you verse the entire world on Sunday and you'll step into the ring against guys that are faster, stronger, and all around better than you in that ring, but you'll still have something they won't. I don't care who the hell they send out, none of them are going to have me cheering for them like I'll be cheering for you. I can't think of anyone on the roster those fans are gonna get behind more than they like to get behind you. Maybe you won't be ready to win, maybe you'll get your ass handed to you worse than you ever have, but when that bell sounds, and the match is over, regardless of what happened in between, I know you'll still be my World Champion. If you go out there, and give it your all Romeo, I promise you nothing can happen that will make anyone else think less of you. So you can sit here, alone, in the dark, and wait for your impending doom, or you can step out into the light, and take on this obstacle head on."
There's an awkward silence, as Johnny looks up at Romeo. Romeo lowers his head, and Johnny feels defeated. Johnny turns around, walks towards the door, and opens it. Johnny lets out a sigh, before he shuts off the light, and walks out of the room. The camera watches Johnny walk down the hall, before looking back at Romeo's door. The doorknob turns, and the door itself opens. The lights come back on, and the first thing we see is Romeo's face, looking up into the lights with a smile on his face.
"Fight or flight huh Johnny? Well then I guess there's only one thing left to do."
Romeo pulls a pair of cheap sunglasses, seemingly from nowhere, and places them on his face.
"Let's Razzle this Dazzle!
Romeo runs off in the direction Johnny just walked away from, as the camera fades to black.
