Good? Evil? Hero? Villian? They are just words; Travis VS Stylez RP2

NEWera Rookie

::There are few places that can be called “scars”. These are sites that have impacted a country on a personal, cultural, spiritual, emotional and physical level. They are moments in history that will never be forgotten, no matter what. They may heal over time, but they never fade from the people or nation they affect. Some are done by the actions of war, others are simply done by the evils men are capable of committing as part of man’s inhumanity towards his fellow man.::

::Within America, there are several places that have become scars on the collective concousness of the people of the United States. These places include the Alamo, Pearl Harbor, Wounded Knee, Oklahoma City, Virginia Tech and most recently Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, and Boylston Street and the 2013 Boston Marathon in Boston Massachusetts.::

::But perhaps none have impacted America or shaked it to its very core like the World Trade Center and the morning of September 9th, 2001. On that day, the greaterst terrorist attack in US history destroyed the World Trade Center, part of the Pentagon, and crashed a plane in Pennsylvania and resulted in the deaths of nearly 3000 people. The attacks effectively shut down the nation as major attractions, the government and US airspace were shut down, but, as Pearl Harbor did, rallied the nation and launched numerous conspiracy theories.::

::Today, over a decade later, the scar that was once the World Trade Center is still there. It may be clear of debris and rubble, and in middle of construction for the proposed monument, with the memorial in place and a museum open, but the scars that came from the events of that day still lingers. The names and faces of those who died and the rescue workers who spent weeks digging through the rubble, will never be forgotten.::

::It is here, overlooking the site of Ground Zero, now known as the World Trade Center site, where Kyle Travis stands. The sky is overcast. The rain comes down like tears over the what many have called the cultural and financial center of the United States. Travis looks down at the hole where the World Trade Center once stood, dressed in a raincoat. The water runs down his hair.::

“Hero.”

::He raises his head and looks up to wards the sky, closing his eyes as the rain comes down on his face.::

“I am beginning to think that there is not a single person in the entirety of New Era Wrestling that actually really understands that term. Romeo Stylez.

::He lowers his head and runs his hands over his face, wiping away the water.::

“So far, I have not seen a single person who has claimed the title and actually lives up to it. I just keep seeing wannabes and posers that cling to an almost child-like sense of morality.”

“And sure, it is easy to cling to those childhood ideals of defining good and evil. In childhood, you have clearly defined heroes and villains. You find them all over in books and video games and movies.”

“Take, for example, the video games series The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros, which anyone with access to a Nintendo who was born after 1980 has played or heard of.”

“In the Legend of Zelda, Link is the hero, given the mantle of “the Hero of Time”. Because of his courage, his nobility and honor, he is selected by the Triforce of Courage to be the hero. Meanwhile Gannondorf, the villain of the series, is granted power by the Triforce of Power, which fuels his greed, his cruelty and his lust for power, and thus is “the King of Evil”. It is their destiny.”

“In the Mario Bros. series, Bowser is the bad guy. In any game that features dialogue, he openly admits this. He actually seems to revel in it. Meanwhile, your hero is Mario, who never seems to declare he is a hero, but comes off more as just a guy who sort of stumbled into having to save the princess because no one else in the Mushroom Kingdom seems able to.”

“In the series The Lord of the Rings, everyone knows Mordor is evil. It is a dark, foreboding, volcanic land filled with orcs, trolls, the Nazgul and a giant demon spider thing. Sauron is evil and there is no argument or even an attempt to disprove it. ”

::Slowly, “the Canadian Legend” looks around the site, taking it all in. This is not the first time he has stepped foot in New York since the attacks that day, but it is not often he comes here.::

“Then you look at other things, like Harry Potter, and despite calling him The Dark Lord, Voldemort never claims to be evil. He is a power-hungry, genocidal bigot, but never once does he declare himself evil. Neither does The Capital in the Hunger Games trilogy, despite the fact it is an oppressive regime that subjects children to a yearly death match that has killed well over 1700 people and rules with an iron fist. In the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series, Kronos, king of the Titans, does not consider himself evil, he just wants to destroy the gods, take over the world and rebuild his ancient kingdom. The follow-up series, The Heroes of Olympus, despite the fact the Gaia would destroy everything humans have build and practically kill every last human on the planet, she does not see herself as a villain.”

“You find it like that in comics. Magneto, for example, suffered terribly under the Nazi regime during the Holocaust, and thus is understandable that he would fear a similar reaction from humanity towards mutants, yet ironically has become what he hated. Dr. Doom is a tyrannical dictator who liberated his home country, where is a hero to his people, despite the rest of the world seeing him as a power hungry, megalomaniac in full battle armor. Cobra is a terrorist organization built on the idea that big government and big business was screwing over the little guy.”

“What makes it weird, despite those being fantasy and non-fiction, is they come off as the most realistic.”

::Travis turns his eyes from the World Trade Center towards the area around to the parts surrounding the site that have been cleaned up and rebuilt. However, refolected in the eyes and win::

“People use terms like “good” and “evil” or “hero” and “villain” like they are applicable in every situation. They fail to realize that those words are loaded words and are nothing more than labels for whatever cause someone feels the need to champion. Good and evil are defined by the winners, or the people in power to rally others.”

“For countless centuries, the Jews have paid for their place as God’s chosen people in more blood and suffering that really makes one realize why they do not have a concept of hell. When the Plague ravaged Europe, they were blame. They have served as a scapegoat for every thing that went in Europe long before Adolf Hitler was born and long before Germany was even a nation. And it was deemed the right thing to do.”

“The Spanish spread Christianity not by the word of God or with preaching, but with the sword, with a nearly genocidal drive that was mixed with a lust for gold.”

“Americans justified the slave trade and the nearly genocidal practices against the various Indian tribes as the right thing to do because “science” had proven that these races were somehow inferior to the white man and that only the white man could guide these races to any semblance of civilization, no matter the cost to their native lives or culture. And the sad thing is, I am not making that up.”

“Pol Pot murdered hundreds in an insane attempt to rewrite Cambodia’s history. Saddam Hussein killed his own people with bullets and gas weapons. Kim Jung Il lead one of the most brutal and repressive dictatorships on the planet. None of these men ever publicly declared themselves evil or what they did they did in the name of evil.”

“When Adolf Hitler came to power, Germany was a broken, beaten, battered shell of a nation. The Nazi party rebuilt Germany into an international military-industrial power. The greatest irony of Hitler is that if he had been killed before begin able to start World War II and the Holocaust, if the attempt on his life had been successful, then he would have gone down in history as the greatest leader of Germany in the 20th Century. And while he is considered among the greatest monsters in history, he never declared what he was doing was evil.”

“FDR and Churchill knew exactly what kind of man Joseph Stalin was. He was a brutal, paranoid, crude, mass murdering tyrant who was almost as bad as Hitler, but in World War II, they needed him, so he became a good guy.”

“Men like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin were viewed by the British as traitors. Treason is one of the few crimes today that universally punished by death, without any argument. Yet here in America, they are patriots and heroes to the point where their flaws, like Washington’s naked ambition in his youth that lead to the French and Indian War, or Franklin’s womanizing, are overlooked and often ignored.”

::Travis turns from the site, looking towards the city of New York and its busy streets. It is here, in this city, he has defended and lost world titles and where he will challenge for the NEW Television Championship in a few weeks. However, he seems not to be focusing on anything other than Romeo Stylez in Albany.::

“Like I said “good” and “evil”, “hero” and “villain”, they are labels.”

“Let me tell you a story Stylez.”

“Long ago, in Eastern Eruope, there was a small country called Wallachia, situated between the Islamic Ottoman Empire, which was supposedly evil, and the Holy Roman Empire, which everyone declared to be good. Wallachia stood alone as the vanguard against the Ottoman Turks. The country’s nobles betrayed the prince, killing him. His heir and oldest son had his mouth and eyes sown shut and was buried alive by the nobles, who sold out to Ottoman puppet ruler.”

“But the prince had another son, one who had been a hostage to the sultan of the Ottoman Empire. This young prince returned to his homeland and reclaimed his throne. On the night of his coronation, he murdered 200 members of the nobility, their families and members of the church.”

“On the boarder he had with the Ottoman Empire, were forests. These were not forests of trees, but of people he had impaled and left to die. Carrion birds picked at the corpses of the dead while the sound of those dying was carried by the wind. These people were of the Turks he captured, and his own people. His reign was brutal, but he defended his land and his people until his dying day.”

“His name was Prince Vlad Țepeș Dracula III, or as he is better known, Vlad the Impaler, the man who gave name to the most famous vampire in history. Some nations regard him as a tyrant, a villain, a madman. However, in his native Romania, he is a national hero.”

::Travis gesture to the ground beneath him.::

“Look where I am standing.”

::He points behind him, to the site of the greatest terrorist attack in US history. He points to the site of an attack so horrifying that, despite every conspiracy theory, no one ever saw coming.::

“Even someone from a small town like you, has to recognize this spot. Unless you were born in Amish country or have been living under rock for the past decade and half, you know this spot, and you know what happened here.”

::He lowers his arm. Standing to the side, Travis glances back at the site where most of the nearly 3000 victims lost their lives and the greatest manhunt in history was born in what was called “an act of war”.::

“Every police officer, firefighter and rescue worker who went into the rubble and pulled people out, to the office workers who tried desperately to help other people escape, are the definition of heroes. And yet, to counter that, there are parts of the world that regard the men who flew those planes into the towers as heroes.”

::He turns away from the site, looking downward at the ground that over a decade ago was covered in rubble and debris.::

“This is the site that condemned the entire Muslim religion in the eyes of the United States as an evil religion that just makes terrorist, unless they are from an oil producing nation like Saudi Arabia, the home country of the men that flew those planes. It is also why I say the United States will never find itself electing a Muslim president, because “patriots” and “heroes” like Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck have pretty much declared Islam is evil, just like Judism was centuries ago.”

::The rain has stopped falling. Travis looks upwards to the sky, which is still gray and cloudy, but no longer dropping rain upon the Big Apple.::

“Truly, I honestly believe that if the Prophet Muhammad would be disgusted by what was done here on September 11th, 2001. However, I will not condemn entire religion or ethnic group for the actions of a few. What people seem to forget or ignore when they denounce and decry Islam is that more people have been killed in the name of God and Jesus Christ than in the name of Allah.”

::Turning, he starts to walk along the site. His shoes make a light splashing noise on the concrete as he walks. His eyes never move to the site again as he walks. They face forward, like a predator.::

“Now, do not get me wrong Stylez, I believe in right and wrong. That is why we have laws and rules and are not just some last man standing, anarchist society. What I cannot stand is the self-righteous, those people that declare what they do is good or hide behind words like “good” and “evil”. Actions can somewhat be defined in those terms. People ”

“That is all I see here in New Era Wrestling. All I see from the so-called “heroes” like you, Brandi Storm and Tommy Zellar is just the self-righteous hidsing behind a word none of you truly seem to understand or even respect. So far, no one has done anything to convince me otherwise.”

“I will be the first to admit that my methods, what I do in the ring, how I win my matches, the violence I do not going to get me declared a hero or a good guy. I do not hide what I do from my children. They know exactly the kidn of person I am. However, I leave all of that in the ring. I have never hit them, or yelled at them. I have never struck my wife or cheated on her, unlike a few “heroes” I could name.”

::He shakes his head as if he is disappointed.::

“A hero is not someone who wrestles a title match in a company he owns rather than be at his daughter’s bedside while she lays dying in a hospital.”

“A hero does not hire thugs to help him win, then act like he accomplished everything on his own.”

“A hero does not betray everyone, have an affair, then on here road to redemption, make excuses for why she lost one match by blaming her outside interests, rather than accepting she lost that one night and trying again.”

“A hero does declare that he is a hero while telling all the old timers and legends to step aside so he can have his moment, because I guarantee that if he reaches the level of legend, he will not willingly give up his spot.”

“A hero is not one to declare it, yet when challenged to prove it or step up, fail to do so and remain silent.”

“A hero does not condemn or judge the actions or methods of another and then achieve victory through those same methods.”

“A hero does not exploit a national tragedy in an attempt to try and get fans to like him.”

::For a moment, he pauses as he comes to the memorial built to remember those that died here that September morning and in 1993, when the World Trade Center bombing occurred. He steps inside, walking past the trees that now grow on the grounds; they are wet from the rain. He keeps walking as he speaks, not really seeming to have a direction.::

“So far, none of the so-called, self-appointed heroes have proven to me that they deserve the title. All of you keep saying Fabulous Disaster has to be stopped or something has to be done about us, yet none of you have been able to act against us. To me, it seems you are trying to convince yourselves more than any of us or the fans that you are heroes.”

“Heroes, Stylez, are not made by them declaring that they are heroes. They are made by the times and they are made by the obstacles and challenges they face. That is why the crowd will be behind Purity Solanas far more than they will be behind you at Vindication, despite your trying to show them you are cool and popular by being into all the same trends they are. She has suffered and struggled more to earn this, although, Mac could be doing a better job of trying to screw her over.”

“It is also why people like me are needed. You can judge me as “evil” or call me a “villain” all you want “hero”, but I am necessary evil. Without people like myself, Randy Altzer, Wrecking Crew, and up to the last month, James Stall, there is no conflict and no need for you so-called, self-appointed heroes. Without people like me, it is just two of you in a popularity contest going on about how much you respect and admire the other person and hope for a good clean fight. No one really wants to see that.”

“Without people like me Stylez, no one would give a crap about you trying to prove yourself a hero. You’d just be what you really are, some poser trying to get people to like him by being into what’s cool and trending.”

::He keeps walking, passing by the site’s pool. The museum can be seen in the background as he looks over the pool.::

“When you and I step into the ring at NEW Television 67, your music will hit at the Albany crowd in the Time Union Center will start to cheer. They will not cheer because they think your one pant legged wrestling gear is cool. They will not cheer because they think you are awesome for being into all the cool and popular crap like a sheep or a damned teenage girl. They will not even cheer because you are the reigning NEW World Heavyweight Champion. And they sure as hell will not cheer because you are a “hero”.”

“No Stylez, they will cheer for you because they hate me that much. The only reason they will see you as the hero is because they see me as a villain.”

::He keeps walking, moving past the Survivor Tree, a tree that had once been covered in ash and now serves as a symbol or renewal and rebirth. Travis glances at the tree for a moment.::

“And yet, when I win, they will no longer care. They will move on to a new “hero” to shower with their love and admiration. In fact, I think they already have in Purity. When and if she beats you, they will cheer for her louder than they did for you when you walked in. You may think I am lying, but I have seen it happen again and again and again. They always find a new hero. Even among the self-proclaimed, self-righteous heroes in New Era Wrestling, they will find a new one.”

“But for one night, I am going to make you the biggest “hero” in New Era Wrestling when we step into the ring in Albany. Their hatred of me will make them cheer you louder than they would any other night. They may change heroes on a weekly basis, but their hate never dies.”

::Those cold predatory eyes of “the Canadian Legend” turn from the tree and glance towards the camera. That anger, disgust and contempt heard in his voice days ago when he first addressed Romeo Stylez is there again.::

“So at NEW Television 67 show me what you got “hero”, because I want you to remember one thing Stylez. I have spent a career beating the heroes those fans worship and cheer. If I can take out the real thing, I can beat a pretender like you. You will challenge and learn and then you will bow to “the Once and Future King”.”

::With that, Travis turns, the edge of his raincoat flapping a little as he turns and walks off. The scene fades out as he walks.::
