"Victory is always possible for the person who refuses to stop fighting." - Napoleon Hill

October 2, 2012
Deadwood, South Dakota

It had been a couple of hours since Jules had bailed me out of the Deadwood sheriff’s department. I still didn’t understand why she was doing all of this, but she asked me to take a chance on her, and after the help she had given me, it was the least I could do. From the way the police spoke of her, she was a highly respected lady in the community.

After leaving the sheriff’s department, she dropped me off at my hotel. The place reeked of alcohol. As soon as I got home last night, I puked my guts out. That would repeat for the next few hours. It was early in the morning as the sun was shining through the blinds in my room. The brightness didn’t help my hangover at all. As soon as I draped the covers over my head, I heard a knock at the door.

I reached over at the dresser and looked at my watch. It was a little past six. I ignored the knock and draped the covers back over my head. The knocking continued for over a minute before I finally threw the covers off of me and went to answer the door. Surprising me again, it was Jules. She walked straight in without being invited.

Jimmy Helmsley: Sure, make yourself at home.

Julia Baker: Pack your bags. It’s time for you to get out of this rat-infested place.

Jimmy Helmsley: You do know what time it is, right?

She didn’t look at her watch nor did she respond to my question. She grabbed one of my suitcases off the ground and begins shoving clothes into it. I collapsed onto the bed. My head couldn’t take this right now. Shortly after, a shot of pain came across my stomach as she tossed my suitcase on top of me.

Julia Baker: I think we are all done here. Let’s get going.

She had some other stuff of mine and headed towards the door when I grabbed her by the arm.

Jimmy Helmsley: Stop, just for a second, please.

She honored my request and stopped.

Jimmy Helmsley: I’d like to know what’s going on. Where am I going?

Julia Baker: You’re coming with me. I’ve got you a place to stay and a job lined up.

I rubbed my eyes trying to see if I was dreaming all of this, but it was, in fact, a reality I was living. She grabbed my stuff again and headed out the door. I guess I was obligated to follow her. We got outside and she was loading my stuff in her car. I threw my suitcase in the back seat before looking back at her.

Jimmy Helmsley: So where’s this job that you got me?

Jules looks across the street at the diner where she works during the day.

Julia Baker: I hope you can cook.

I smirked. Cooking was actually one of my specialties. I wasn’t sure if I should tell her that.

Jimmy Helmsley: And the living arrangements?

Once again, she looked across the street at the diner. I wondered how that was going to work.

Julia Baker: There’s a bedroom in the back of the place. It’ll make sure you’re never late to work.

She smiled at the last remark and got in the car. I followed suit and we drove across the street to the diner, or my new life. We got around back and walked through the backdoor. Inside, my new room was even smaller than the hotel room I was staying in. It was enough size to fit a bed, a dresser, and a television. There was a small bathroom attached to the right of the room. The size didn’t bother me because I didn’t need anything larger.

Jimmy Helmsley: So if you don’t mind me asking, how did you set this all up?

Julia Baker: I’m pretty close with the owner.

Jimmy Helmsley: Is the owner a hard ass?

She nodded her head and smiled. She looked down at her watch and pointed to the time.

Julia Baker: Your shift starts in five minutes.

She left me alone and I sat down on the bed. It was fairly comfortable. I didn’t bother putting my clothes away in the dresser. Who knows how long Jules would have me? I was bound to screw something up sooner or later. Instead, I changed into an older shirt and headed up front to the diner. I walked into the kitchen and saw another man working already. I looked through the window and saw a few customers out there already, mainly drinking coffee.

I walked up to the front lobby and grabbed myself a cup of coffee to ease the pressure that’s banging against my head. When I looked up, I saw a young girl, fairly familiar. I was practically staring at her when Jules walked up beside me and joined in on looking at the girl.

Julia Baker: Looks familiar, uh?

I nodded my head. It was that moment I remembered her.

Jimmy Helmsley: She was the bartender from last night.

Julia Baker: She’s also the one that let me know you got locked up.

Jules called the young girl over and she didn’t look too thrilled to see me. I don’t blame her for the chaos I caused last night.

Julia Baker: Jimmy, this is my daughter, Elena Baker.

Elena Baker: My friend’s call me Elle.

I’m sure I should get used to calling her Elena.

Elena Baker: Listen, as long as you don’t get in my way, we shouldn’t have a problem.

With that, she walked away leaving me standing alone with her mother.

Julia Baker: Well, I think it’s about time you get to work. I’m not paying you to stand around.

That was when I realized that Jules was the owner of the establishment. She was a respected businesswoman in this town and was taking the new town drunk under her care. She started walking away when I called out to her.

Jimmy Helmsley: Thank you.

She nodded her head and I walked into the kitchen. I looked around the area, getting acquainted with where everything was and not a few seconds later, a ticket came back and I grabbed it. I looked at it and realized that this was my life now. And after everything I have gone through the past few weeks, it wasn’t so bad.

Evolution 4.0

I was sitting in my locker-room, watching the end of the main event between James Stall and Eric Donavon. Penny Lane was announcing the match as a draw and I could hear the fans booing from inside the arena. I smirked and started shaking my head at the screen.

Jimmy Helmsley: The son of a bitch got lucky again…

I leaned over and turned off the monitor. I reached down at my heavily taped ribs and felt another shot of pain go up my side as I moved back and leaned against the couch. I looked around for some medication, but there was none to be found. Ashlie had gone back to the trainer’s room to get some more pain medicine, but hadn’t returned yet.

I thought about the match that just ended between Stall and Donavon. It was one hell of a fight, but I couldn’t help but feel disappointed that Donavon didn’t walk away with the championship. I felt he deserved it more than Stall, but I’ll give Stall credit where it’s due, he didn’t quit and that is what’s most important. He is still the champion and will most likely break Nightmare’s record of longest reigning champion.

Mainly, I hope he remembers the words of warning I delivered to him earlier about Outkast. I don’t have a problem with Stall. We haven’t crossed paths since my return, but if he decides to keep up with the talk of Outkast and how “close” they were, then he and I were going to have a problem. I know Stall better than anyone in New Era probably and I’m not someone he wants to deal with, especially when it involves Outkast memory.

A knock at the door is heard and Thumper is shown walking in with his camera crew. He didn’t seem to care about waiting on an invite or anything. I wasn’t in the mood to move right now as my ribs were in excruciating pain. I motioned for them to move the camera crew in front of my couch, so I could do the interview sitting down. Thankfully, he obliged.

Thumper: You know it makes you look weak doing the interview sitting down.

I looked up at him and then down at my ribs. My whole waist was practically taped up.

Jimmy Helmsley: Do I look like I care about if I’m perceived weak?

I had already lost two matches tonight. All thanks to RAW and the Wrecking Crew. I wasn’t in the mood to care how people thought of me. My body needed to heal and right now, sitting down was the best option for me.

Thumper: Ready to get this over with?

I nodded my head. As soon as Ashlie returned with my medicine, it was going to be time for me to get some sleep.

Thumper: Tonight wasn’t the greatest night of your career. You had two matches and lost both of them. How do you feel about that?

Jimmy Helmsley: Let’s put this in perspective. I didn’t lose to RAW Randy Altzer. I lost to Mac and his group of bitches. You saw what happen, right? The owner of the company got involved in my match to save his boy. And because of that, I got distracted and lost the match. Plus, I got a cool souvenir.

I pointed at the white bandages covering my ribs.

Jimmy Helmsley: As for the Key to Excellence match, I wasn’t going into the match with high hopes. I was facing eleven other talented superstars who wanted it more than I did. Plain and simple. I didn’t come back to New Era Wrestling to win the North American championship. I came back to this company to get retribution for my friend. Tonight was simply a set back. Nothing else. Mac and his crew will get what’s coming to them.

Thumper: Any words for the winner of the Key to Excellence winner, Trevor Hyatt?

Jimmy Helmsley: The guy is talented. Very talented. He comes from a wrestling background and has the energy it takes to win in this business. My advice for him is to make it count with the key. Opportunities like that don’t come around often.

Thumper looks through some notes on a piece of paper. It’s always something he has done, ever since I met him. He doesn’t care much about the wrestling business, just the paycheck it provides.

Thumper: What do you think Mac is going to throw at you next? Doubt he quits until you’re gone for good.

He was right about that. Despite RAW winning earlier tonight, it wasn’t over between any of us.

Jimmy Helmsley: I don’t know what Mac has planned for me next. Whatever he throws at me, I’ll be ready for it. These ribs might be damaged now, but with time, they’ll heal. He and the rest of his crew better hope I do not get 100%. That’s my message to Mac. Pass it along to him if you want.

For a second, I thought Thumper was actually taking out his phone and texting that message to Mac. Instead, he was checking the time. Before he could get to his next question, Ashlie walked in the locker-room with a concerned look on her face.

Jimmy Helmsley: What’s wrong?

Ashlie Helmsley: The next set of cards are released. You’re booked on NEW TV.

Jimmy Helmsley: I’m not surprised. It’s not like Mac was going to give me the night off.

Ashlie Helmsley: It’s who you’re facing, Jimmy.

Who could be such a threat that it concerns my sister?

Jimmy Helmsley: Who is it?

She hesitated responding for a second.

Ashlie Helmsley: The Wildebeest.

My head felt like dropping. She could have added an angry Wildebeest, who is just coming off losing the North American championship to Nightmare. I looked down at my ribs. They weren’t going to be getting healed before next week’s set of shows. Wildebeest is someone who shouldn’t be taking lightly either. I looked over at Thumper, who had a small smirk in his face.

Thumper: You were saying about being able to take everything Mac threw at you?

I leaned back against the couch and placed my hands on my head. Thumper and his crew started packing up their equipment and exited the locker-room. Ashlie sat down next to me and kept the concerned look she had when she entered the room a few minutes ago.

Ashlie Helmsley: What are you going to do?

That was a good question. This could potentially be the toughest challenge I’ve taken since returning to New Era.

Jimmy Helmsley: I’m going to do what I always do. I’m going to fight.

I was going to fight a monster. I was going to do what it takes to win. By whatever means necessary. I was going to fight.
