James Stall, having heard enough of Tombstone, hits him with a hard quick right hand. Tombstone flies off the apron, crashing to the floor and his head hitting the steel barricade. His eyes shoot open as he lies there, his vision overcome by a blinding white light. He rolls slowly onto his side, weakly reaching up to the barricade and trying to pull himself up. He falls back to the floor, the back of his head throbbing. Aurelei Donovan looks back and forth between Tombstone and the ring, concern on her face. She focuses on the action in the ring as Tombstone starts to pull himself up again, letting out a groan.
He pulls himself up with both arms, resting over the barricade as fans pat him on the shoulder and urge him to get up. He can't even hear them as he looks around in a daze, his cold blue eyes looking glazed over. He notices the entire crowd jumping to their feet, throwing their arms in the air in victory. He turns around, seeing Eric Donovan celebrating as Stall looks enraged. Stall and Tombstone lock eyes, the big man giving him a small smile as he begins to slowly walk to the ramp. He can now hear the entire crowd screaming at the top of their lungs, happy to see Stall put down for the night. Tombstone nods his head as he steps through the curtains, stopping briefly and bending over, resting his hands on his knees.
The pain in his head was growing. He shakes his head, the pressure remaining. He takes a deep breath, slowly walking through the rest of the gorilla position and into the backstage area. Alexis Jones sees him and immediately points at him, her eyes wide with worry.
Alexis Jones: "Turn around now! JETZT! JETZT!!!"
Tombstone looks at her in confusion, his attention turning to the monitor she's standing in front of. On it, the image of Stall driving a sledgehammer into Eric's ribs. Tombstone stares in astonishment for a moment, wincing in pain as he shakes his head.
Tombstone: "Scheiß die Wand an..."
He turns around, practically ripping the curtains off the walls as he jogs through the gorilla position. The crowd erupts as he runs out on the stage, running down the ramp as fast as he could, despite the pain. He slides into the ring and Stall rolls out, just narrowly avoiding getting grabbed by Tombstone. The Dark Destroyer slams his fist on the mat in anger as Stall grabs his championship and quickly makes his exit. Tombstone watches him, seething with hatred as Stall raises the bloody hammer and belt, looking proud with himself. Tombstone grips the top rope, wringing it in his hands as he grits his teeth. He shakes his head as EMTs start to roll down to the ring, the World Champion disappearing into the back.
Tombstone turns to the fallen Dragon, looking over his bloody body. He shakes his head as he kneels next to Aurelei, who is speechless as she gently moves hair out of Eric's face. The EMTs get into the ring, tapping Tombstone and Aurelei on the shoulder to get them to move. Tombstone stands up, taking Aurelei's arm and pulling her back some as they begin to check out Eric.
Tombstone: "Ist there anysing I kan do to help?"
EMT: "Just stand back, big guy. We can take it from here."
Tombstone nods his head, the pain still pounding in his head. He begins to feel dizzy, white spots filling his vision. He feels himself begin to go down, grabbing Aurelei by the shoulder and nearly taking her down with him. He catches himself on his knee, breathing heavily as he hangs his head. One of the EMTs notices this, looking concerned.
EMT: "Are you okay?"
Tombstone: "I'm fine... Just a little vinded... Just help him..."
The EMT stares at him for a moment before nodding his head and returning to Eric. Tombstone slowly stands up, looking down at Aurelei, who is looking at him in confusion. He waves a hand in assurance, nodding his head.
Tombstone: "I'm fine... I have to go... Kall me vhen there is an update on Erik."
She nods, still speechless as she looks back at her husband with wide eyes. Tombstone slowly walks over to the ropes, rolling over the top of them and landing on the outside. He holds himself up on the apron, feeling another wave of dizziness wash over him. He began to feel nauseous, his knees buckling beneath him. He shakes his head, gritting his teeth as he pushes away from the apron and makes his way to the back.
Alexis meets him in the gorilla position, her hands covering her mouth as he approaches her. He puts his arms around her, white spots still littering his vision.
Alexis Jones: "Is he okay?"
Tombstone: "I don't know... Aurelei vill let us know zee news."
Alexis Jones: "Somebody should be with her right now..."
Tombstone: "Ja?"
Alexis Jones: "Yeah. When you were in the hospital, it was easier to get through because Priest and Wildebeest was there to talk to me. Even Eric came by, although we didn't talk much."
Tombstone: "Then you should go be vif her. Let her know that you're there for her."
Alexis Jones: "What about you?"
Tombstone: "I... need some rest. I vill be there vhen I kan."
Alexis Jones: "Are you sure?"
He looks down at her, seeing double. He takes a deep breath, forcing a smile and slowly nodding.
Tombstone: "Ja. Go. I vill be fine."
She smiles and nods, standing up on her tip toes and still having a hard time planting a kiss on his cheek. She walks away, holding onto his hand as long as she can before she has to let go as she walks out to the ring. Tombstone slowly turns around, the nausea becoming extreme. He stumbles into the backstage area, breaking out in a cold sweat as his eyes droop. Workers watch him as he stumbles around, looking like he was drunk. He manages to keep his balance, wiping the sweat from his forehead on his arm as he makes his way down the long hallway to his locker room.
He stops in the middle of the hallway, falling against the wall, his legs slowly sliding out underneath him. He takes a deep breath, letting out a strained groan that only amplifies the pain in the back of his skull. He pushes off the wall, taking large awkward steps down the hall, trying to focus his vision to no avail. He reaches his door, fumbling to open it. He finally does, nearly falling into the locker room. He immediately goes for the trash can, the door swinging shut behind him as he throws the lid off and heaves, vomiting into the trash can. He heaves again, his stomach twisting into knots as his vision was completely impaired now. He lets out a final heave, feeling cold fingers run up his spine as he stands up. He wipes his mouth, his vision slowly coming back as he stands up. The pain in his head was excruciating now as he lets out a small whimper. His vision begins to grow dark as the last thing he feels is his legs giving out beneath him as he collapses to the floor...
-----
"<Elias... Wake up, Elias...>"
Tombstone lets out a groan, feeling rough carpet on his face as he slowly opens his eyes. His vision was still double as he takes in a deep breath, the foul taste of vomit filling his mouth. He rolls over onto his back, letting out a hacking cough as he tries to look around.
"<Be still, Elias. Don't move too much.>"
Tombstone: "<W-Who's there...?>"
He tries to sit up, feeling a heavy weight on his chest. He falls back to the floor, his head still slightly throbbing.
"<Shhh... Everything is going to be okay.>"
He looks around, trying to find the source of the woman's voice. It was familiar, but he didn't know who's it was. He knew he had heard it before though. Somewhere... Not too long ago. But he couldn't remember. It hurt to try and remember. He takes in a deep breath, his eyes half open as the bright lights make the pain more intense. Suddenly, the lights dim down, allowing him to open his eyes more. He looks around, seeing no one else in the room. But he knew someone was here.
Tombstone: "<Who's there? Who are you?>"
"<Someone that has been with you for a very long time...>"
He raises an eyebrow, his upper lip twitching as he slowly sits up. The weight on his chest begins to let up and he pulls himself over to the couch, leaning against it with his back.
Tombstone: "<A long time? No one has been with me a long time. Not even my father...>"
"<Your father... Bless him... He tried. He loved you, Elias. I know you know that. He just made one too many mistakes that drove you away. You're a special kind of boy, are you not? You are meant for great things.>"
Tombstone, now flustered, looks around, trying to find the woman. He shakes his head, not seeing anyone else in the locker room.
Tombstone: "<How do you know about my father?>"
"<Your father was a great man. Even though it took him some time, he eventually realized that he loved you with everything he had. It's sad that he passed away before you reunited with him. That was all he ever wanted.>"
Tombstone: "<Dammit, who are you?!? Who sent you? Did Stall send you?"
"<No... Although he is the reason I am here.>"
Tombstone: "<What is that supposed to mean? Do you know him?>"
"<A little.>"
Tombstone: "<So he did send you...>"
"Nein."
The voice was calm and soothing, not once showing a sign of anger. It seemed to come from all around him, echoing throughout the room. Tombstone shakes his head, pulling himself up on the couch, the pain in his head still slowly going away. He rests his head against the couch, licking his lips. He was parched, but he wanted to know who he was talking to.
Tombstone: "<So who exactly are you?>"
"<I already told you. Someone that's been with you a long time.>"
Tombstone: "<Okay... So why are you here?>"
"<To warn you.>"
Tombstone: "<Warn me? Of what?>"
"<You're taking on too much, Elias. You're not indestructible. Your body will give up on you, sooner or later.>"
Tombstone: "<I can take care of myself.>"
"<Not with what is coming your way.>"
Tombstone cocks his head, slowly standing up and looking around the room. He winces a little bit, caressing the back of his head as he looks to every corner, seeing nothing.
Tombstone: "<What do you mean?>"
"<Something violent is coming. Something even you won't be able to control.>"
Tombstone: "<And what is that?>"
A knock is heard at the door, Tombstone's eyes shooting toward it. He looks around, the woman's voice absent.
Tombstone: "<Tell me! What is coming?!?>"
Again, the woman's voice is not heard. He looks all around the room as the knock is heard again. He shakes his head, turning around. And that's when he sees her. In a darkened corner of the locker room stands a woman with long blonde hair, wearing a bloody gown. Tombstone freezes where he stands, looking into her icy blue eyes. The two stare at each other for a moment, no words exchanged as the knock is heard again, this time louder. He could barely make out her features, only the blue eyes that seemed to glow in the dark. He takes a step toward her, leaning forward a bit as he narrows his eyes.
"<Heed my warning, Elias. Something violent is coming. Something that will change everything...>"
Tombstone: "<What do you mean?!? WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!?>"
The knock is heard again, much louder than before. Tombstone sits up off the floor, looking around the locker room. The lights were normal, the woman nowhere in sight. He looks down at the floor, confused. He shakes his head, quickly getting up and going to the door. He opens it, seeing a security officer on the other side.
Security: "Sir? Just coming by to tell you the arena is going to be locking up soon. You have to leave now."
Tombstone: "Vhat? Vhat time ist it?"
Security: "Nearly 1 o'clock."
Tombstone looks at him in confusion, eventually nodding his head.
Tombstone: "Okay. I'll get my things."
Security: "Thank you, sir."
The officer smiles and walks away. Tombstone begins to shut the door, but not before noticing a piece of paper taped to it. He takes the paper off, opening it up. At the top, it said 'NEW TV 58'. He scrolls down, seeing his name listed alongside Jimmy Helmsley, Eric Donovan and Robbie Priest. He looks at the opponents, seeing Disturbed, RAW, Romeo Stylez... and James Stall. He stares at Stall's name, his fist slowly closing and crumpling up the paper. He throws it to the floor, slamming the door shut. He backs away from the door, running his hands over his head. He looks to the corner where the woman was, seeing she was no longer there. He shakes his head, turning away and beginning to pack up his things.
He grabs his duffel bag and championship, slinging both over his shoulder and making his way to the door. He looks to the corner the woman was in one more time and notices something on the floor. He frowns, slowly walking over to the corner and kneeling down. He picks it up, twirling it in between his finger and thumb.
It was a black feather.
