Robbie Priest: Kevin?
Priest comes walking into a the hotel bar area and sees his now wholly jittery cousin, Kevin Raines, nervously biting at his nails and scanning the area like he's expecting company of some sort any second now.
Kevin Raines: Huh.. oh... haha, hey Priest... how ya doin? Great weather, right?
Priest stares at his cousin in shock. Kevin appears to be almost high, sweating, shaking and looking around every few seconds.
Robbie Priest: Kevin...
Kevin quickly looks back at Priest for five seconds before going back to his nervous scanning around the area.
Kevin Raines: Huh? I'm fine, really.. it's cool I … it is really nice here, isn't it? I could see myself...
Priest can't believe his eyes. Kevin had never been a user or a drinker so this behavior was something entirely out of character even for a known pathological liar and con artist like Kevin Raines.
Robbie Priest: Kevin...
Kevin continues looking around as if he hasn't heard his cousin at all.
Kevin Raines: Totally see myself living here for a while, you know? Nice.. um... nice... where are we again?
He glances out the window.
Kevin Raines: Oh, right.. desert... um.. Arizona, right? Yeah... nice, warm.. maybe a little dry... hey, wanna drink? I could use a drink.. I...
Priest's eyes narrow.
Robbie Priest: Kevin.. are you...?
Kevin's eyes go even wider at his cousin's gaze.
Kevin Raines: What? No, I'm fine... what makes you think anything's up or wrong or... hey, shouldn't you be at a meeting with Beest and Stone and that Dragon guy and... um... the other guy um... yeah?
Priest cocks his head. Why was Kevin trying so hard to get rid of him?
Robbie Priest: Kevin... what are you bloody playing at?
Kevin sits back looking scared out of his mind now.
Kevin Raines: I'm not doin' nothin' man, nothin'.
Priest glances towards the door and then back to his still shaking cousin.
Robbie Priest: Who are you waiting for?
Kevin glances at the door and then back to the window.
Kevin Raines: Huh? Oh.. haha... um... I'm not waiting for... anything.. I.. um.. I just.. you know... enjoying the sights of.. what town is this?
Priest glances up at the big poster for the Phoenix Coyotes right in front of Kevin and sighs.
Robbie Priest: Phoenix...
Kevin nods excitedly, hoping it's enough to get him out of this situation.
Kevin Raines: Yeah, yeah.. Phoenix, great town... go see a game? I hear the bats are booming this time of year...
Priest shakes his head in shock and annoyance.
Robbie Priest: They don't play baseball for another few months...
Kevin tries to glare but can't make himself come off as angry as he wants to.
Kevin Raines: I knew that, don't you think I knew that? Why are you all up my ass, I'm not doing nothing and I... oh look at that, you gotta go man or you're.. um... gonna miss your call with Alexi.
Priest slips his cell phone from his pocket to show Kevin.
Robbie Priest: My phone is on my person so I will miss nothing...
Kevin bites his lip while Priest just stares at him.
Robbie Priest: Kevin.. what in God's name is going on?
Kevin shakes his head, going so fast he almost makes himself dizzy.
Kevin Raines: Nothing, man.. it's... it's nothin...
Priest stares at his as he wipes sweat off his brow and just shakes his head incredulously.
Robbie Priest: Are you high?
Kevin shakes his head.
Kevin Raines: No.. never... never touched the stuff...
Priest shakes his head, exasperation setting in.
Robbie Priest: Then what? Unable to take it anymore, Kevin's eyes bug out of his head.
Kevin Raines: Disturbed, man.... I haven't been able to sleep since...
He glances to the door to make sure the big bad bogeyman isn't there to hear him.
Kevin Raines: He's gonna get me, man! I know he is. I see him everywhere. He's in the shadows, in the dark, in the closet, under the bed.. he's everywhere and yet.. he's nowhere... he's in my head, man and I can't get him out! I fall asleep for five minutes and all I see is his him coming towards me.. his hands at my throat and...
He squeezes his eyes shut, so tired he has no tears to cry in shame.
Kevin Raines: I wake up sweating and I can't get back to sleep.. I feel like I've been on a bender for two weeks and I haven't even gotten to have a drink!
He opens his eyes, letting his head fall into his hands.
Kevin Raines: I don't know what to do man... he could be anywhere and I know... I KNOW he's coming for me...
Shocked, Priest nods. He steps forward and hugs his seated cousin's head to his chest.
Robbie Priest: I'm sorry, Kevin... I never meant for this to be on you... I should have paid more attention. I just.. I assumed you could...
Stepping back, Priest frowns and then quickly dials a number.
Robbie Priest: Yeah... Elias? Kevin's coming with me... we've got a bit of a problem... yeah, we'll be there.
He hangs up and then nods to Kevin.
Robbie Priest: Come on... off we go... you're coming to the meeting. He won't be able to get to you with this lot around you.
Kevin nods.
Kevin Raines: Ok...
Priest smiles, trying to set his cousin at ease.
Robbie Priest: Don't worry, Mate... we'll get through this...
Kevin nods, standing up.
Kevin Raines: Thanks... I didn't... I just didn't think you'd believe me.
Priest shrugs, still managing a smile.
Robbie Priest: First time for everything, yeah?
Kevin smiles gratefully.
Kevin Raines: Yes... there is...
Priest nods to the door.
Robbie Priest: Come on, then... off we go.
Kevin nods and follows his cousin out to the meeting and safety.
