Volcanic Eruption

He saved me...

As the chairs rained down upon us near the end of our contest for the New Era Wrestling No Limits Championship, Matthew Slater did not cover me with the intention of winning the match. No, there was only one reason why Matthew did what he did.

He did it for my protection.

Being friends such as we are, neither one of us would want the other to suffer an injury of any sort in competing against one another. So when the fans, angered about my refusal to use weaponry against Slater to harm him, threw chairs into the ring Matthew only did what he felt was right in keeping his friend from harm.

For that, I am thankful.

Did it mean that I once again lost against him with the No Limits Championship at stake? Yes, it did. However, given my track record participating in such matches a loss is hardly surprising...

“That’s horse! H-O-R-S-E. You lose again, Timmy boy.”

Paxar laughs loudly in victory, garnering my attention from the nearby bench as Timothy, appearing slightly dejected from his loss at the game, walks over to the basketball lying in the grass and picks it up.

“Perhaps we should take a break.”

“Aw, tired of losing to me already? You’ve only lost every game of horse we’ve played since we got here...”

“What can I say? I suppose my shot is a little rustier than I thought.”

“It’s as rusty as some of those steel chairs that hit Reya on NEW Friday Night...”

Suddenly, I glare at Paxar in anger as Timothy steps over towards me.

“You know, I agree with Timothy. It is time for you two to take a break.”

Paxar pouts, staring at me as she snaps back.

“Fine. We’ll take a break. Maybe it’ll give you a chance to tell us why we came all the way out here in the first place instead of to a basketball court closer to the hotel.”

Continuing to glare at her, I raise an eyebrow.

“Where else could we stand upon a volcano?”

Surprised, the eyes of Paxar widen slightly.

“We’re not standing on a volcano. There’s no way we could be standing on a volcano. You’re making it up.”

“Have you ever known me to make something up that was not true?”

Paxar shouts back at me.

“But this place doesn’t look anything like a volcano!”

“No two volcanoes are exactly the same, Paxar.”

Nodding at Timothy, I look back at Paxar.

“Mount Tabor is, in fact, a volcanic vent. Many years ago it was active and when it erupted lava flowed down it to the surrounding field. Now, it lies dormant...”

“Why are we even here talking about volcanoes anyway? You should be training right now. You’ve got a big match coming up on NEW TV against Nightmare.”

As my face turns more serious, I peer into her dark brown eyes.

“Do you not see? Nightmare is similar to a volcano. He holds a terrible darkness deep within him and every so often, usually whenever he steps into a wrestling ring but for him it could happen any time, the darkness is unleashed forcing it to erupt upon those around him.”

“Well that would explain what Nightmare did to Doc Holiday on the last NEW TV.”

“And what he plans on doing to you, Reya. To him, you’re just a little innocent lamb and it’s slaughtering time. If he can destroy a fellow former New Era World Heavyweight Champion like Doc Holiday, what in the world do you think he is going to do to you when you step into the ring with the guy?”

Suddenly, Timothy begins to grow slightly angry as he clenches his fist.

“He better not have any intentions of sinking his teeth into the angelic face of my dear, sweet Reya. So help me God if he does...”

His face starts turning red as Paxar attempts to cool him off.

“Whoa whoa...calm down, lover boy. You know you’ve got nothing to worry about. Reya can totally take care of herself. She’s a big girl, after all.”

Gazing over at Timothy curiously, I cannot help but admire the passion he displays in my defense.

“I do not believe I have ever seen you quite this upset, Timothy, but as Paxar said you have nothing to worry about. I am sure that I will emerge from this match with no serious injuries of any kind.”

“How can you be so sure of that? Nightmare is a merciless man, Reya. He thrives upon pain, and his sole desire is to inflict as much pain upon others as possible. He did it to Doc Holiday and he will not stop until he has done so to you.”

“That may be so but fear not, mi amor. The Lord will protect me, as He always does.”

Smiling brightly, I suddenly grab the basketball out of his hands and begin dribbling it.

“Now, shall we play another another game?”

The eyes of Paxar light up as she grins at me.

“How about Around The World?”

“You will have to explain the rules, but we can play that if you would like. Come, let us begin.”

As I keep dribbling, the three of us head back onto the court to play once more...

Nightmare is indeed a merciless man, of that I am most certain. I hold no illusions in thinking that I can stop him from allowing his darkness to erupt upon others as he pleases. Ceasing to do so is his choice, and his choice alone.

However, when he attempts to unleash it upon me I have no intentions of being a lamb led to his slaughter, simply lying down and taking his brutal assault like Doc Holiday did until Nightmare decides that it is enough.

No, I will fight. I will stand my ground...and while I may not be victorious in this match in doing so I will prove to all that are watching both in the arena and at home that I can step into the ring with a former New Era Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion, stand toe to toe with him, and live to tell the tale.

For the Lord shall protect me from the darkness with his Holy light, as he always does.
