Jimmy Helmsley
NEWera Veteran

I haven’t had the most successful return since coming back to New Era Wrestling. I had waited too long to come back to help Troy Turner and now I was dealing with the fall out of his demise. Last week on NEW TV, I had RAW Randy Altzer beat before getting jumped by the Wrecking Crew, Riot and Zoe McDraven.

One of the reasons that kept me from returning to New Era was facing the people that I walked out, the Wrecking Crew for example. Before I left, I brought them into Genesis, a group I planned to revamp New Era with. If I’m being honest, I brought them in to watch my back in my quest to become world champion. I didn’t care about their well beings, I was looking out for myself.

Riot and Zoe used to be good people before I got a hold of them. I convinced them that people were out to get them and that I was the only person they could trust. With that, Riot turned against his brother and Zoe lost all the innocence she ever had in the company. Since then, they have done some pretty shameful things and I feel I’m the one to blame.

A day had passed since NEW TV 56 and the beating that I got from RAW and my former stable mates, the Wrecking Crew. I guess I should have expected it sooner than later. I treated them badly and walked out when I was supposed to guide their careers. I probably deserved their attack.

Ashlie Helmsley: You ready to go?

I heard her voice, but it sounded like background music, so it wasn’t really getting to me. Since I came back to the wrestling world, Ashlie had been by my side. She had come to get me from Deadwood and she hasn’t left my side since.

Ashlie Helmsley: Earth to Jimmy?

Finally, my attention was caught when she started waving her hand in front of my face.

Jimmy Helmsley: What?

Ashlie Helmsley: It’s time to go home.

We were sitting outside the hotel we had been staying in and Ashlie had been waiting to get a taxi to take us to the airport. The thought of going home had been bothering me because of everything that had happen before I left.

Jimmy Helmsley: Yeah, I guess you’re right.

The taxi driver placed our bags into the car as Ashlie and I got into the car.

Ashlie Helmsley: Everyone’s going to be happy to see you.

I nodded and gave her a fake smile. In reality, I’m not sure if I could call Boston my home anymore. After the past few months in Deadwood, meeting everyone, I wasn’t sure what to call home.

Ashlie Helmsley: The penthouse is pretty much the same as you left it. I followed your rules because I know how you’d react otherwise.

I continued nodding and give her short word answers as I stared out the window and looked at the scenery. We were near the crossing of the Golden Gate Bridge and I looked out onto the water. It was pretty amazing if you ask me.

Ashlie Helmsley: I told Brooke we’d be arriving in a couple of hours, so she’s going to meet us at the airport in Boston.

For some reason, when hearing Brooke’s name, I jumped up and called out to the taxi driver.

Jimmy Helmsley: I’m sorry, but can you please turn around?

He turned around and gave me a confused look.

Ashlie Helmsley: Jimmy, what are you doing?

Jimmy Helmsley: There’s something that I need to do. Will you take us to the National Cemetery?

At that point, Ashlie knew what I needed to do.

Ashlie Helmsley: Jimmy, you’ve been there everyday since we arrived in San Francisco.

Jimmy Helmsley: I need to say good-bye.

The taxi driver turned us around and we started heading to the cemetery. Ashlie didn’t understand. I don’t really blame her though. How could she?

Ashlie Helmsley: We have a flight to make.

Jimmy Helmsley: I don’t care about the flight. I don’t care about going home. I just want to go see my friend.

Ashlie Helmsley: I understand your feeling, but this can’t be healthy.

Jimmy Helmsley: What’s not healthy about going to see a friend? You don’t understand Ashlie. I need to go see him. He’s the only one that can understand what I’m going through.

Ashlie Helmsley: Fine…

Jimmy Helmsley: I’m fighting Zoe McDraven in two weeks. Do you know why? Because I let her down. I let Riot down. I told them that I would guide their careers and make them better superstars. Instead, I used them to my advantage and after everything went down in Boston, I turned my back on them and walked out. Look at the people they have become. That’s because of me.

They are doing the bidding of Mac because that’s the type of competitor that I taught them to be. I told them to go to the highest bidder and not care about anything else. I told them it was my career before there’s. No exceptions. And they listened because they believed that it would be for the better of their careers in the future. Instead, I abandoned them and left them to be nothing.

Zoe and Riot feel betrayed and they have every reason in the world to be. James Stall wasn’t going to take them under his wing. They were left to fend for themselves and they were alone. Riot betrayed his brother for me. Zoe turned against the people for me. I broke them. I just hope it’s not too late to fix what I did.

Ashlie remained silent for a moment.

Ashlie Helmsley: What’s that have to do with him?

I took a deep breath looking over at her.

Jimmy Helmsley: Because I let him down too. I let Troy Turner down. Both men reached out to me at the time and either tried to help me or asked for my help. I didn’t do anything. I have to go see him because he’s the only person that understands because he lived and breathed this business. He was the one that reminded everyone how much this all meant. I still need reminding. And I think I will for a while.

No more words were spoken for the rest of the taxi ride to the cemetery. Once we arrived, I left her in the car and walked through many graves before arriving where I needed to be. I kneeled down in front of the grave reading “Mark Martin”, known to the rest of the world as Outkast, the best friend I ever had in this business. I could feel tears rolling down my eyes as I sat Indian style in front of the grave.

For the next hour or so, possibly longer, I sat there and talked with my friend. I told him more of my experiences in Deadwood, the great people that I had met there. We talked about my new problems in New Era and what steps would be taken to fix them. Finally, we talked about the issues that I had with going home. I explained to him the situation and while understanding, an agreement couldn’t be reached.

I got up from the ground and headed back to the taxi. Ashlie was waiting patiently in the car when I got back in. I looked over at her and for the first time in awhile, I could sense understanding coming from her.

Ashlie Helmsley: We aren’t going home, are we?

I didn’t even have to respond for her to know the answer.

Ashlie Helmsley: You’ll get there. And I’ll be here until you do.

She told the taxi driver to take us to the nearest car rental company. We were going to have a family road trip, travel from city to city where New Era had me competing. I wasn’t sure when I was going to be able to go home. Everything that happen there I wasn’t ready to handle yet. I had a lot of problems to fix, but I knew it would all take time. At NEW TV 57, I was going to try and help Zoe McDraven realize that people still do believe in her, even if it required me to take action that she won’t appreciate.
