Nothing Lasts Forever

It has been a pleasure competing in recent New Era Wrestling events in the wonderfully beautiful country of Canada. After all, as the New Era British Commonwealth Champion I represent the British Commonwealth itself, a Commonwealth in which Canada is a member. It has been an honor that I deeply appreciate holding the British Commonwealth Championship and it is something I will cherish not only for the duration of my career but my lifetime.

However, I know that I cannot keep the British Commonwealth Championship around my waist as a representative of the Commonwealth as its champion for all of eternity. It is just simply impossible.

No, unfortunately for me I am fully aware of the fact that no matter what a champion attempts to do, no title reign lasts forever...

Sitting at the foot of the bed in our Calgary hotel room a short time after my victory over Gavin Payne, I stare at the British Commonwealth Championship sitting in my lap.

"Going to stare at that thing all night Reya or are you going to get your stuff together so we can get to the airport?"

Breaking my stare, I look up at my friend Paxar as she stuffs things into her suitcase in a disorganized manner.

"I am just cherishing what I have while I still have it, Paxar. I may be the British Commonwealth Champion for a year...or I may only hold it for one more day. The future lies in the hands of the Lord."

"Well the only way you're going to lose it would be if you were to defend it, which you haven't done yet. When are you going to defend it, by the way?"

"I do not know. You should be receiving a message about my upcoming match shortly. Perhaps it will be my first British Commonwealth Championship defense."

Continuing to pack her belongings, Paxar shrugs her shoulders at me.

"It could be...or it could just be another non-title match. We're not going to know until we know."

"Indeed."

Suddenly, a techno sounding song begins to blare loudly as I question my friend curiously.

"What is that?"

"My new ringtone...Gangnam Style. Do you like it?"

As it continues ringing Paxar quickly grabs her little pink phone that was sitting near her.

"Not particularly, no."

"Well I don't like how all of your calls come to my phone but I take them anyway. Speaking of which..."

Paxar answers her phone, putting it to her ear. She speaks to the caller for a few minutes as I get up from the bed with the British Commonwealth Championship in my hands. I put it into my suitcase and begin to gather my other things as Paxar gets off the phone.

"What was that about?"

Acknowledging me, she glares at me seriously as she puts the cell phone into her pants pocket.

"Is something the matter, Paxar?"

"That was the infamous New Era star and now partial owner of New Era Troy Turner on the phone, Reya."

"Interesting. Did he call to inform me that I will be defending the British Commonwealth Title?"

With a hint of sadness and worry, Paxar shakes her head as I keep packing.

"Not exactly, Reya. Maybe you should sit back down. You might get upset about what I'm about to tell you."

Curious, I glare at my friend intently.

"Regardless of what you have to tell me, I will be fine. Just tell me."

"Okay...I've got some good news...and I have some bad news."

"I see...perhaps it would be best if you told me the good news first."

"Well the good news is that you will be in a title match on the main event of New Generation."

Upon hearing this, I smile brightly at the news.

"That is indeed good news...and the bad?"

"There's a lot of bad news, actually. To start off with Troy's ordering you to relinquish the British Commonwealth Title."

Completely surprised by this revelation, I stop packing as I begin to become slightly angry.

"Why? Why would Mister Turner do this?"

"He's retiring the title and replacing it with the new No Limits Championship. You are going to be in the match that determines who will be the first holder of the title."

Perplexed, I question her curiously.

"No Limits Championship?"

"It's basically a title for the hardcore or extreme types. The match itself is anything goes and with falls counting anywhere."

"So I am in a hardcore match for a hardcore title?"

Paxar nods.

"Pretty much."

"Paxar, my dislike of hardcore type matches is well documented..."

"That hasn't kept you from being in a few in the past. Besides, this is a chance to win yet another title...you've never won a hardcore title before. Not to mention that your name would go down in history as the first person to ever hold the No Limits Championship if you win. You can't turn that down, Reya."

Shaking my head in dismay, I let out a heavy sigh.

"I will compete in this match if I must and I will try my best to be victorious over whoever it is that I will be facing. Speaking of which, did Mister Turner mention who my opponent for this match is?"

Paxar nods in the affirmative.

"He did, actually...but..."

Inquiring about my upcoming opponent for this anything goes falls count anywhere No Limit Championship match, I interrupt her.

"I am not interested in the buts, Paxar. Just tell me."

"It's someone you know very well. Some you have known for a long time now."

After letting out a heavy sigh, I speak to Paxar in an irritated tone.

"I do not wish to play any guessing games right now. Please, just tell me."

Judging from the look in the eyes of Paxar, one of worry and anxiety, I can tell that what she is about to tell me is not something that I will be pleased to hear.

"It's the winner of the mystery tournament that New Era just put on over the last several weeks. You do know who won that, don't you?"

Nodding at her, I softly utter his name...a name I am all too familiar with...the name of the mystery tournament winner...the name of the man that just so happens to be one of my close, dear friends...

"Matthew Slater..."
