::There was something strange about the house that hate build this evening. It was quiet. Candice had been out of the house nearly all day, and for the first time Snake had not panicked and demanded he go with her. Eric and Aura hadn't been here in a few days and Ren was upstairs sleeping. The day before had taken a lot out of her. . It was with this strange silence that the newest member of this little brood didn't like. So with that uneasiness he made his way out of the back door of the house and into the back yard.
Johnny Corvo, a man simply known around the Serpent's Den as “outlaw”, strolled through the backyard toward the large metal doors leading down into hell. Since their talk a the week before Ren hadn't been down here again. No one had seen hide nor hair of the Fanged one in nearly a week and truth be told, he was concerned.
The tall and solid form of the former rider was covered by a pair of blue jeans and a black shirt. Black boots crushed the grass beneath him. His long brown hair hung down to his shoulders and his face held a thin layer of stubble across the cheeks and chin.
A single hand pulled the right gate of the shelter up and into the darkness he descended. He walked through the hallways into the eerie silence of this metal cage until he came to the final hallway and looked first to his right and found Snake.
The massive form of the man once known as David Matthews sat on his knees. David wore a simple pair of black silk pants and a side less shirt. He was sitting back with his ass rested on the heels of his feet. Arms folded with the hands down in his lap and his head bowed. He appeared....to be meditating.
A uncertain clicking noise was issued from the mouth of the Outlaw before his eyes moved to the main room ahead of him. A room with massive shelves and pictures painted into the walls. The room with the hand carved scratches into the wall for every win.
Just as Johnny was about to turn and walk toward Snake another sight pulled his eyes to the extreme left. The solid steel door that Snake had kept shut at all times was opened, just a crack. Another quick glanced taken at Snake before he turned and walked toward the steel door, keeping his booted feet quiet on the floor.
The door emitted a loud “creak” as it slid open and the face of the Outlaw snapped back and stared across the hallway only to find Snake in the exact same position. Unmoved, eyes closed and head down. Johnny exhaled a deep breath held in subconsciously then moved deeper into the small room.
Inside on the wall were six large televisions all facing a large wing back chair and behind the chair sat a single executive style desk. For a time Johnny just looked around and found nothing of interest, but as he began to turn he saw it. Sitting on the desk in front of the pushed in chair sat a large leather bound boot sitting open.
Next to the book sat a beautiful silver pen. The kind of pen used to write elegantly, with flicks of wrist and swirls of letter. The rider moved to the table and looked down.::
Johnny: “....November 27th. Midnight.
Still no word from Steven James yet. Not that I can blame him really. After Akuma lost for the second time....and vanished I would be leery as well...but I find myself caring less and less about that. It is all spiraling out of control and I don't think i can stop it.
Maybe she is smarter then I am. A every turn I found out new pieces of her game. No little snippets of things she has planned. She is masterful. A true creature, the likes of which I can only pretend to be.
She is without mercy. Without remorse and without conscience. She is a true Sociopath and I fear I don't have the strength to do what needs to be done.
I am scared. Of what I must do. Of what will become of me.
Of how my plans will leave the others.
Facing Steven James is the easy part. Facing my own reflection in the mirror is harder. If only they knew what was to come.”
::Johnny read in little more then a hoarse whisper. As if the words themselves were dangerous. The more he seemed to read the softer his voice became. As he finished the newest entry he chanced a glance back at Snake and found him peaceful and meditating, then turned back to the desk and began to flip through the pages. About halfway through the book he stopped and allowed the page to fully open.::
Johnny: “September 12th 2. AM.
As I awaken from the madness that had taken a hold of me I find myself wondering where all of those so called friends are now. The people who promised to be there forever. Where were they when I needed them?
Then again I suppose that's the sad truth of all of this. I thought for a time that they cared so little to be able to forget promises made with such intensity. Such strong friendships....but I find now that even that is strong.
It is not that these promises eroded over time. It is that the promises were given in spite from the start. Promises made that were never intended to be kept. Said to give false friendship for a time. Simply because it was convenient.
It doesn't matter in the end. I have always known that people will flock to you...when things are good. It is when things get dark you find out who truly cares for you.
I find it funny at what bitterness and lies turns people into. I know what really happened and I will hold that memory dear, as will many others. Those who chose to see it as anything else talk with honeyed false tongues. Doesn't effect me anymore.
In the words of Rorschach. They will look up and shout 'Save us'....and I'll whisper 'No.' ”
::For a moment he stopped and looked down at his feet and thought. Wondering who he could have been talking about. He considered Candice, who spoke with honeyed false tongues with everything she said. Candice, he was sure of it.
Again he seemed to flip the pages, this time forward. Every now and then his eyes could scan briefly before slipping to the next page.::
Johnny: "October 5th 9 P.M.
It's like awakening from a dream. I see the world the way it is again. I can feel the cold still....can feel the emptiness threaten to take control of me but at last I am awake.
This child I have in my custody wants something from me. Part of me thought it was protection but I don't think so. She is dangerous. So very, very dangerous and I see that now. She is smarter then she appears and much more manipulative.
What does she want from me?
I face Akuma in very little time. I only hope I can keep my mind on the task....then again in that ring is where I belong. I know that now.”
::Johnny flipped the pages a bit faster now. Reading Snippets in a whisper from first one page, then another. Reading randomly.::
Johnny: “October 20th 5 A.M.
Candice is planning something now. I can see it in her arrogant little smile. I am beginning to hate this child.
November 12th 6 P.M.
Serenity is living in the house now. She actually took a swing at me yesterday. It was....cute. What came layer was infinitely more hot however.
Talked to Veronica this morning. Seems Candice is gathering about her a group of people. All men with bad reputations. Whatever she is planning is coming.....
November 15th.
I build a safe room within the shelter. I can keep my plans here safely. Out of the reach of Candice. She cannot know what I plan. I fear I have underestimated her...and now the lengths I will have to go to stop her will be extreme. I do not like where this is heading.
Candice is taken offense to Serenity being here. I fear she plans to do her harm. I contacted Johnny back in California. He'll be here in a few days. I needed to get him away from his old crew anyway. That temptation will be too much sooner or later.
And....with him here I can focus on Candice and he can protect Serenity.
And when I put all of this into motion Eric will need someone to watch his back.....”
::Johnny stared down at the paper blankly and swallowed down a lump in his throat he felt would be too big to swallow. So, here it was. Plain as the nose on his face. He had indeed been Snake's safe guard, and for a darker purpose it seemed.
Johnny flipped one final pages and came to a stop at the second to last page. For a moment he scanned it in silence, his breathing now coming slowly through his nose. He felt a pressure building in his chest. It felt like someone was pushing on his chest making it harder and harder to breath. As if Snake's namesake had somehow wrapped him in it's tender and deadly embrace.
When he finally did speak his breathing was almost gone. His voice the faintest of whispers.::
Johnny: “ November 25th 9 A.M.
Ronnie pulled a large chunk of money from the joint account. I didn't ask if any of it had been touched, but I think I know that answer. She never was one to spend money. It was something I had loved about her.
Now I can begin my process. Johnny's arrival seems to have confused the little witch. She couldn't make the move on either Serenity or Eric. The safe guard is working but I must act quickly.
…..Serenity and Johnny are together now. I pushed for it....even wanted it. I cannot give her what she needs. Not anymore. But....the more I think about it the angrier I am becoming. I think....when this is over I have to go down with Candice and her group.
It is the only way to ensure this mess is cleaned up permanently.
The first stage of the plan begins after I face Steven James....but I'll be damned if even that desire isn't falling away. All that matters to me anymore is bringing this little harlot down before she can hurt those I care about.”
::Johnny heaved a deep sigh and turned the book back to the final page then turned and found Snake exactly where he had left him. Those booted feet silently carried him back out of the room and from the shelter. When he got outside a black phone was pulled from his jeans and flipped open. After a moment of ringing he spoke.::
Johnny: “You should get down here soon....there is something you need to hear. Yea...i get your busy but I don't give a shit okay? Just...do it Fuck.”
::Johnny slammed the phone closed mid conversation and chuckled a weary chuckle. He would pay for that later he knew it. At least he knew now that Snake was indeed planning something. Some strike against Candice. Now, he just needed to find out what. He took one look back at the open shelter door then headed back inside to find Serenity.
**
Under ground.
**
Snake heard the booted feet of the former Bike coming down the ramp way and allowed his eyes to close. The one bad thing about blue jeans is that it's hard to walk quietly in them. The fabric made distinctive sounds when you walked. From the sounds of the jeans alone he was able to follow the man's movements to the hallway and then into the room.
Mother fucker....
He cursed to himself, but blamed only himself for not locking the door. Had it been Eric, Ren or Candice herself he would have stood and stopped them, but this man knew enough to see between the lines and not get himself involved, or so he hoped.
Snake listened to the soft whispers and knew what they were. As Johnny read Snake knelt in this serene place and planned. He knew where this all started and where this all ended, but it was all of the stuff in the middle which still eluded him. Veronica had done as he asked, as illegal as it was she was still his friend after all and her legal background gave her all kinds of interesting contacts.
When Johnny finally did finish his reading and left the shelter Snake looked up and offered the faintest little smirk before uncoiling his legs and standing. One final glance down the hallway to ensure he was gone before Snake moved to that thick metal door and pulled it shut.
A pull of the handle and the lock clicked into place. Into the large room through the doors between the two rooms he moved. Standing with his back to the door the massive creature stripped down. The scars on his back were as visible as the lines of the muscles of his shoulders, legs and back.
He didn't seem to be in a hurry as he pulled on a pair of leather pants, slid his feet into the black combat boots and pulled on that black leather vest with “Perfection Personified” on the back like rockers. He took a moment to pull the long wavy black hair from the back of the vest before turning and following Johnny up to the living room.
Once Snake got back above ground he walked into the garage and slid behind the steel of the GTO Judge he loved so much and fired the beast to life. As he pulled out of the garage and looked over at the house he chuckled at the wide eyed look he got from Johnny through the first floor window.
He had things to do. Things to prepare. If he was to have his mind cleared for Steven James he had to get these small things done. Then....he could focus and Steven James would get what was coming to him.
No promises this time around, plans were more important. Plotting over promises. A strange thing for him to think even in the silence vault of his mind. But none the less...it is how it had become. At least for him now.::
