What do I look for in a rp?
There are 6 categories that I generally judge a rp on.
Presentation: No this doesn't mean you HAVE to add colours and all that jazz. I don't want to see big clumps of speech because it makes the rp hard to read. This category is also spelling errors, wrong words and overall grammar. Doesn't mean one spelling error costs you the match. Presentation will not make or break your promo, but its an easy category to score well on. Proof read your work. Read it out loud is the best advice I can give you. I find reading out loud helps me catch errors making the flow of my promo easy on the reader.
Last Appealing How does Greg feel after reading this? Am I still chuckling? Am I creeped out? Did you leave me a cliffhanger to think about? Again this will not make or break your rp.
Creativity: I don't want to see your character talking on a rooftop in every promo you do. Use different settings and give them life with descriptions. When I close my eyes I want to see exactly where your character is. Don't have Thumper interview you every time. Every once in a while is fine, but not every promo. Don't be afraid to try something new and different.
Entertainment: This doesn't mean you have to make me laugh my ass off. You don't have to write about relations with 14 year olds to entertain me. I enjoy a good emo slasher rp like Nightmare and Jimmy. I loved Cam's first two rps in that 25 man battle royal for the title, funny shit. I like reading about Hawks ripping a fetus out of a woman's uterus or wherever the fetus would be ripped from. I enjoy Romeo Stylez' random McDonald scenes when we clearly know this happened to him and most likely only he thinks its funny. I like that. I like Disturbed's darkness and commitment to the character and sometimes he hits grand slams like his rp for London Brawl. I can go on and on for days. Entertainment is the most subjective part of judging a rp. It can depend on mood, atmosphere and so many other factors.
Character Development: This is the most important category of them all. This doesn't mean you have to develop your character in every rp. CD also deals with keeping the character. For instance, if Tombstone suddenly breaks out into song. That shit would never happen and would be a total break of character. These characters aren't robots. They have emotions and they grow as people. When you write don't as yourself; write as your character.
Match Concern: Yes this does count. Why wouldn't it? This is a fantasy wrestling forum and wrestling is what our characters do. I know that we have some rpers that don't have much or any match relevance in their promos, but it must be present in some way, shape or form. This doesn't mean you have to hammer out 1000 words of trash talk on your opponent. It can be as simple as setting your scene in a place that is sentimental to your opponent. This shows that you pay attention to the fed and shows relivance towards your opponent and hence the match. Did I use the word hence right? And is that even how you spell it.
Please leave comments and ask clerical questions so I can make amendments to this.

Those are some good tips there. I would like to add something. Not necessarily has to do with how you judge matches, but a tip to help with the writing process.
Let it flow. You can't force an RP out. If you do, it's noticeable and takes down the quality a lot. You have an idea and want to get it out ASAP, but you're feeling like it's turning into shit with each line? Take a step back, let the idea fester in your mind, go have a smoke break, do something else for a little while, etc. You may have a 10/10 idea in your head, but it's not coming out 10/10. With that can come frustration and with frustration comes poor writing. So let the idea grow a little bit before you try to force it out of your head. That way, when you do go to write or go back to write, it will simply flow out of you on its own instead of you trying to shove it out the door.

A small something to add that works for me when doing promos:
You can't speak for your wrestler. They may have some of your qualities or attributes but they aren't you. You have to let them do the talking. Odd as that sounds, it's worked. Stand back and look at the situation your character is in at that point and ask yourself a few simple questions.
- Did they win or lose last week? - What actions did they take to get to that point? - What kind of history do they have with their opponent if any? - How does that opponent relate to them? - How does all of this factor into their story thus far?
Ask all those questions of yourself pertaining to your match and your character then use the acting method of 'dropping in' to that character's mindset. I tend to do this sort of thing at work where I can let my mind wander a bit. Let your character 'tell' you how he/she feels about the answers to those questions and then when it comes time to write, transcribe them into the promo. You're not speaking for them, you're putting their thoughts down.
Roleplays come off more naturally in my opinion when they're done this way. Different writers have different methods and this might not work for everyone but to this point it has served me well.

To add a bit to what Eric said, i have given this advice to many people over the years, it works for some, and not for others, but if if helps someone, hey awesome!
So, find something you yourself are passionate about, or know well....make sure it fits into the character. Your knowledge about the subject will speak volumes.
A character who is making a speech about gunslingers of the old west but only knows names, because the handler is not familiar or doesn't care, will score less with me then someone who can list who was arguably the best, why, when they died, where, how do they relate to what your saying or the setting your in.
Your passion and expertise in these subjects will make those tiny moments in the RP's shine and pop off the page.

Whether that information that you know fits your character is a whole other story, but what's an interesting person without a few quirks and unexpected passions thrown into the mix? It really does work well, though, becuase your knowledge and passion enhances the work...especially if your wrestler can speak of it as interestingly as you can.

Since we have a thread talking about what we look for in a RP let me share some insight. When I read a RP I want to be entertained. What does this mean:
Does it have to be funny?
No, it can be a deep emotional RP, it can be very creative without being funny, it can just be a really good shoot.
Then what makes a RP entertaining?
If I have to struggle to stay focused on the RP, it's not entertaining. If it's a chore for me to keep reading your RP it's not entertaining. If it's easy for me to read and keep up with, then it's entertaining. Various things can factor into this.
Grammar and Spelling
Believe it or not if I have to keep reading sentences to understand what you're saying it ruins the flow and worsens the RP, making it less entertaining because I'm having to devote more energy into simply understanding it. A single mistake here or there normally isn't bad but if every other sentence has something wrong with it, it will negatively effect your RP. Punctuation can play a factor in this as well but not as much as basic grammar and spelling.
Cliches
Nothing entertains me less than cliches. "You won't like me when I'm angry." "You have no idea what I'm capable of." "I'll kick your teeth down your throat." These things are almost immediate turn off to me. They just sound so corny and makes it hard for me to take your character seriously. It makes it feel like someone who's putting on an act.
Over-Detailed Descriptions
Believe it or not, there's nothing entertaining about knowing exactly what your character is wearing. Sometimes details can be pulled off great to an extent where it paints a picture to me and really helps put me into the RP. MOST OF THE TIME, it just gives me a bunch of useless junk that doesn't help the RP at all, to read. Which bores me.
Off Topic Rants
Is the country of Russia your opponent? Is you being raped as a child your opponent? Are the Backstreet Boys your opponent? No? Then, shut the fuck up about them. This is strictly a "shoot" thing. If your character is in front of a camera in your RP, and goes on a rant about something I don't care about, I lose interest. What do I care about? Your opponent, your match, and your feud. If you're writing a shoot about anything other than those things, I already don't care. Sometimes it can be both, I can talk about my brother as a child, and what an asshole he was, and then compare him to my opponent, and how my opponents just as much as an asshole. However, this RARELY works. Normally, the second you start talking about something else, my brain turns off. Staying relevant is entertaining.
The following is just a personal thing of my own:
I dislike "Management Sucks RPs"
If you're complaining about management in your RP, talking about fighting back against management in your RP, or generally just running management down in your RP, I probably won't like your RP. This has nothing to do with my status as an admin, I hated these types of RPs when I was just a regular member.
I say this, knowing full well, there are feuds, and story lines where this is appropriate. We have a heel owner. Some of you are going to get negative treatment from this heel owner, and I don't expect you to just have your character ignore it.
However, some of you won't. Some of you have HEEL characters, who management is not slighting at all, and still insist on making up plights to bitch about in your RPs. Generally speaking, if you're a heel cutting anti-management RPs against our heel owner, it will almost immediately make your RP worse to me.
REMEMBER
Writing and reading RPs are both subjective. What constitutes as a good RP for me, isn't the same for everyone else. Other judges and members may have differing opinions and you may have a differing opinion. Just because you think your RP was entertaining or just because so-and-so thought your RP was entertaining, doesn't mean I will. And you can follow everything I've said here and your RP can still be boring to me. There's no sure fire formula for writing entertaining RPs.

What do I look for? Tits. What up, Purity?
Seriously though, if I wanted to read, I'd grab a Playboy or something.
