Now James Stall is preparing for arguably the biggest fight of his career tonight against Romeo Stylez in an anything goes two out of three falls match for the North American Championship. Tonight James Stall is set to make history as the only three time North American Champion in New Era history in what might prove to be his most grueling match yet. After all, his feud with Romeo Stylez goes far beyond this one match. It dates back months ago to James Stall’s very first North American Championship reign.

It was late December, and it was during this time that James began dating the object of Romeo Stylez affection, Nikki Blaine. Romeo found himself becoming jealous of Stall. He found himself feeling inadequate when compared to Stall. Then, on the same day James Stall lost his North American Championship to Doc Holiday, Romeo Stylez won the Key to Excellence, and scales began to shift. After that praise began to be heaped upon Romeo while the amount of talk centered around James Stall began to decrease, and, on a night that was supposed to belong to James Stall, Romeo Stylez stole the show.

It April and the show was Bloodlust. James Stall had just made history for the first time by becoming the only person in New Era history to win the North American Championship twice. He had just beaten Doc Holiday in a hellacious razor-wire deathmatch when Romeo Stylez cashed in the Key to Excellence and stole the North American Championship from the Ayatollah of Aggression. Since then it has been James Stall chasing Romeo Stylez.

James failed to recapture the title in a rematch two weeks later, and this led to Stall fracturing the skull of his girlfriend Nikki Blaine in an effort to draw Stylez into a match with himself and Outkast at the London Brawl with the title on the line. Outkast would prove to be the better man that night in an exhaustive match that may have ultimately cost Outkast his life. Since then the title has remained vacant waiting for either James or Romeo to claim it. James managed to pull off a submission victory against Stylez in a tag match, and two weeks later he delivered a brutal beatdown to the Sensational One, but since then Romeo has gained momentum, chasing James off on one occasion and winning a match against World Champion Randy Altzer on another.

But this doesn’t take place back then. It doesn’t take place today either. No. This takes place Wednesday, and instead of being in New York City or in Vegas it takes place in a cemetery in SanFranciso. James Stall stands in front of the grave of his mentor Marc “Outkast” Martin with a black bag slung over his shoulder. His beat up leather jacket stands in contrast to the rest of his clothes, a gray dress shirt and tie with match slacks. He stares down at the headstone in silence for a long time as the weight of everything presses against him, his upcoming match with Stylez, his defeat at the hands of Bombtrack, and the death of the man he looked up to since entering New Era. The feeling of this place and the nervousness over things to come all weigh heavily on his broad shoulders.

“I lost again Marc. I lost and I can already hear the doubts creeping in. Can he do it? Can he finally put Romeo Stylez away? Is he even in any shape to compete? And I was so focused too just like you always wanted me to be. I went after Bombtrack with everything I had after putting together four decisive wins in a row, and I just couldn’t do it. I put my heart body and soul into the match and it wasn’t enough. So that begs the question, am I good enough? Am I ready for the big time? You always said I could be. Bombtrack even said I could be. But am I ready for it?”

James looks up at the sky for a moment and bites his lower lip before looking back down at the headstone. The stitches from his street fight with Bombtrack are still clearly visible above his right eye, and his left hand slides over his taped up ribs as he winces.

“The truth is I’m hurting. After that hell I went through with Bombtrack I’m hurting more than I ever have in my career, but I’ve also grown and learned so much from that match. You don’t kick out of a DBI through a table that you’ve been strapped to with barbed-wire without coming to a new understanding about what your physical limitations are.”

James groans from the ache in his knees as he kneels down next to the grave. He places his left hand, scared from all the barbed wire that has been wrapped around it, on the headstone and sets the black bag down beside him as he looks down at the dirt.

“And I know I can beat Romeo Stylez. You always knew that too. Hell, I have beaten him. But this is a very different Romeo Stylez, and for a moment, after he beat RAW I wondered if I could repeat my success. But after Bombtrack I know I can take him. All the hatred he has for me, all that anger, I can withstand it. Whatever punishment he wants to inflict on me I can absorb it and dish it back out to him in spades. I am stronger and more aggressive than Romeo Stylez can ever hope to be, and even after by battle with Bombtrack I will stop at nothing to finally crush him once and for all.”

James’ hand slips into the black bag and pulls at the North American Championship. He presses it to his chest and looks at the headstone as he shifts and straddles Marc’s grave in a squat.

“This…”

He holds out the championship, looks down at it with a grin, and admires his reflection in the gold before dangling in front of Outkast’s grave.

“This is mine, Marc. It was always meant to be mine, and I’d like to see you try to reach up out of the ground and take it from me.”

Outkast is of course unable to respond, and James continues his taunting as he dangles the championship. He goes so far as to drag the belt strap over the grave before pulling the belt away like a bully pulling a beloved toy away from a smaller child. James hoists the belt over his head and pats the headstone.

“Even when you held it I knew it was only a matter of time before I would take it back from you, but you robbed me of that honor. And that’s okay. It just means that the injuries I cause Romeo Stylez will have to be that much more severe. Your memory is haunting, Marc, and you will always be remembered as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, but when I finish with Romeo, when his limp carcass lies on the mat with my boot on his chest, people will forget you were ever North American Champion. You won’t even enter into the conversation for greatest New Era North American Champion because there will be no conversation. It will only be me.”

James drags the belt over the headstone like an owner dragging a bone over the nose of a well-trained dog before slinging it over his shoulder and sitting cross legged on the graved. He presses his fingers to his lips and nods.

“Yes. I’m going to cripple Romeo Stylez and leave everyone’s favorite broski a shell of his former self. I’m going to bash his skull in with my sledgehammer, cut him open and dissect him with barbed-wire, shatter his bones with steel and then break his back with my torture rack. By the time I’m through torturing Romeo Stylez he will be scarred physically, emotionally and mentally. I’m going to beat the Razzle Dazzle out of him, tear off his smile for good, and it will all be in your memory. If only you were still alive you might be able to stop all this, but I need to utterly decimate him because it’s the only way I’ll ever have any chance of breaking away from your legacy, so just like Nikki Blaine, the brutality that I will unleash upon Romeo Stylez and the damage that I do will be partially your fault. I hope you know that. When Romeo Stylez is clinging to life support in the hospital you’ll be to blame as much as him or I.”

James digs his hands into the ground and leans forward. The title slips from his shoulder as James places his nose close to the ground and speaks in a growl.

“You know I wonder if you could take it, just like you said you could have always taken that sledgehammer shot I gave Nikki. If you were around today would it be you I was tearing apart and putting into the hospital over this belt. It was always supposed to be that way, Marc. We were supposed to kill each other for this belt, but you tapped out too soon and ruined all my fun.”

James leans backward and rests on the palms of his hands as he looks up the sky. He swings his legs out from under him and taps his feet against the headstone as he rocks his head gently back and forth.

“Now I’ll have to settle for Romeo Stylez who is no doubt worthy of my ire. After all I’ve grown tired of him outshining me, tired of people talking about how much they love him and picking him to win this match. These people need a reality check. They need to be reminded that fairy tales aren’t real, and that no matter how much you want it in the end the good guy doesn’t always win, and I’m going to be the man to do all that.”

Stall undoes his tie, tosses it to the side and unbuttons his top shirt button before pulling out a flask from the inner pocket of his jacket and taking a sip.

“This company that you took so much pride in is full of hypocrites and posers, and the fans have forgotten what wrestling is all about. It’s about two warriors locked in epic combat, gladiators fighting until only one of them is left standing. Violence is what made this business so great, not friendship, not flamboyance. I’m going to bring back that violence, and in the end the people will thank me for it.”

James takes another sip, lifts his head and lets fly a blob of spit that smack Marc’s headstone and slowly rolls down over “Outkast”.

“And it all starts with Romeo Stylez and the North American Championship. I can already hear the disappointment in their voices as their lifeless hero is rushed out on a stretcher and I raise the title over my head. I’m relishing their boos as I stand there bathed in the blood of me and my opponent. They’ll scream at me, pretend to hate me, and then they’ll go home and talk about how my match with Stylez was the best part of the night. They’ll talk about how ours was the greatest brawl they’ve ever seen, and they’ll beg for more. That’s exactly what their North American Champion will give them.”

James slides the flask back into his jacket, sits up and pulls his legs in to reveal the North American Championship that they have been laying on. It is turned upside down and the gold face has be pressed into the dirt. Stall scoops up the championship and rubs it clean on his pants.

“Of course, I see this title for what it is, a weight around my neck, a hindrance. I know that if I didn’t hold it I could probably make a push for a World title match at Fear Itself and be Champion by the end of October because, deep down, no matter what others might say, I know I’m ready to be a superstar now. Disturbed, and Erickson, they won’t be able to offer me a challenge. I will ascend above this championship.”

James eyes the headstone as he kisses the North American Championship and then presses it against his chest.

“But I won’t abandon it. I won’t make the mistake of tossing it aside like Psychosis because I am not so short-minded. And I don’t plan on dying anytime soon. Yes. I could have the World Championship by October, but I don’t need it. This title will be the foundation of my legacy, and years from now when people look back on my career they’ll remember the heights I took the North American Championship to, and remember how this glorious reign showed everyone that I am a superstar.”

James reaches down and pats the ground before using the headstone to push himself back to his feet. He picks the title up and slings it back over his shoulder.

“Then I’m going to continue to humiliate Diamonds in the Club as I have ultimately done every week. I will break Bombtrack and his pals just like I broke up the Superfriends. I will take the respect and recognition that I deserve because I am tired of waiting for it.”

Stall reaches down and dusts off his pants before straightening up and patting his championship.
“I am focused. I am dedicated just like you’ve always wanted me to be, and I will beat Romeo Stylez easily just like you said I should.”

A long silence passes between the two as James stares out over the horizon and thinks about his match with the Sensational One. He looks down and gives Outkast a nod.

“And I will make you proud.”
