Hard Work

Fancy cars...expensive houses...those sorts of luxuries were mere dreams when I was a younger girl. That is not to say that my childhood was average by any means, as it was most certainly not the typical childhood of a young girl, but the possessions of my late father were far from luxurious. See...my father went to work each and every day and worked hard to provide for his family, his occupation barely able to accomplish that daunting task. It was an attribute I greatly admired in him...as well as one I try to emulate in my own life.

I never have and do not get things handed to me on a silver platter...

I earn them.

"You looked good there, Reya," My friend Paxar says encouragingly as I sit in a chair after completing a lengthy training session. "A little bit better than you've been lately. Looks like you might be getting some of that focus back."

"Indeed," I reply before taking a sip from my water bottle. "Say...this Ruby Red woman that is my opponent in New Era for the Vindication pre-show..."

"Yeah? What about her, Reya?" Paxar asks, taking a seat beside me.

"Well...what do you know about her?" I question her curiously.

"Word on the street is that she's super rich," Paxar informs me. "Not like Oprah rich, but still she's got a lot of money."

"I see," I mutter as I look into the chestnut eyes of my friend. "Do you know how she came to be wealthy?"

"Not a clue," Paxar tells me. "But considering she's from New York City, I'd guess that the money she's got comes from mommy and daddy."

"So she did not earn the money she has then?" I inquire, taking another sip from the water bottle.

"If she did, it was probably from working as a call girl or something. Oh wait...do they call them call girls anymore? Actually I think they call them escorts now. My bad," Paxar states in a sarcastic tone as I shoot her a slight glare. "I'm just kidding, Reya. Don't get bent all out of shape. As far as I know she didn't earn the money herself but I really don't have any idea if she actually did or not."

"Okay," I reply with a nod. "That was all I needed to know."

"Why did you even ask, anyway?" Paxar asks curiously.

"How a person amasses their wealth can speak volumes about the person themselves," I inform her. "As you have said, it appears that Ruby has not earned her wealth but rather it has been given to her. This leads me to think that she believes everything will be given to her and she will not have to actually work to earn anything at all."

"Well if she thinks you're just going to hand her a win on the Vindication pre-show she's got another thing coming," Paxar declares. "You don't hand wins to anyone. You make them earn it."

"Indeed," I agree, nodding before I get up from my seat. "Now, I should get back to training. Victories do not just fall into my lap, after all. I must work hard to earn them."

Flashing a bright smile at my friend, I go back to resuming my training as Paxar continues looking on...

It takes hard work...effort...to be victorious. Can someone like Ruby Red who has never worked hard a single day in their life be a winner? Perhaps, but most likely that will only be due to using their wealth to attain those wins. I, on the other hand, have no wealth and have worked hard each and every day of my life scrapping to earn what I have. Come the Vindication pre-show, I fully intend on continuing to do just that when I take all of my hard work, put it to good use in my match against Ruby, and emerge victorious...
