NEWera Veteran

I remember a time in my life when everything was right. There wasn’t a right or wrong moment with me. Nobody was around to judge me because it wasn’t needed. It was a happy time with the people I cared about the most in my life. Rachel was in my life and my friendship with David wasn’t on the rocks.

I thought that I was going to be able to get through it, but I knew that once Marc died, nothing was going to be the same again. He was one of the only people that I could rely on in this business and with him gone, the business wasn’t the same. I thought that I would be able to withstand it, but it doesn’t look like anything’s happening.

Genesis was supposed to be the start of a new beginning for New Era Wrestling. The group was supposed to reinvent the business. This business used to be about wrestling at heart, but gimmick after gimmick has changed this business, not for the better either. I wasn’t happy anymore. My happy ending faded away a long time ago.

Boston, MA

I arrived back in Boston a couple of hours ago after the NEW Main Event show in Vegas where Bombtrack defeated my stable mate, James Stall. He may have won the battle, but the war seemed like it was only beginning afterwards. I was doing my best to keep my head in the game, but I couldn’t do it, it didn’t feel right.

I wasn’t sure what my next step was, but I needed some sleep, that was for sure. It might be the best possible thing for me. After taking a few prescription sleeping pills, I started to fade away. I thought about everything in my life and how it isn’t how I planned it to be. I thought about my upcoming match with Bombtrack and the repercussions that would come from it.

Voice: Jimmy…

It was a voice that I hadn’t heard in a long time. I opened my eyes immediately, but the medicine wasn’t allowing me to remain conscious.

Voice: I’m here, Jimmy.

Before I knew it, I sat up in my bed and standing in front of me was Rachel. She looked as amazing as ever. I started rubbing my eyes, but she didn’t go away.

Jimmy Helmsley: Rachel? Is this real?

She started coming closer to me, sitting in front of me on the bed.

Rachel Cohen: It’s good to see you.

Jimmy Helmsley: Where have you been? I’ve been looking for you for the past few months.

She started rubbing her hand through my hair.

Rachel Cohen: That’s not important right now. I came because you need help.

I started laughing to myself. I finally get to see Rachel and she is talking about what I have become.

Rachel Cohen: I might not have been around, but I have been watching you for the past few months and I haven’t liked what I have seen.

Jimmy Helmsley: What do you expect? You left me. David won’t speak to me. Marc is gone. Should I be acting like my normal self?

She didn’t answer that question. Throughout all of this, she hasn’t lost the smile on her face. Just looking at her smile, it keeps a smile on my face as well.

Jimmy Helmsley: My life hasn’t been the same since you left. It’s like the moment you left my life begin spiraling downward.

Rachel Cohen: You need to listen to Bombtrack. He’s trying to help you.

Was she kidding? Out of all the people she wanted me to align with, I never expected it would be Bombtrack.

Rachel Cohen: He can’t change the past, but he is trying to better the future. He sees the problems that I see in you and for the first time in his life, he wants to do the right thing.

Jimmy Helmsley: Bombtrack is just acting. This is another one of his tricks. He wants to get inside my head. He’s the reason that you got scared and left town. He’s the reason I’m not the world champion. He’s the cause of every problem.

Rachel Cohen: Bombtrack isn’t the reason I left…

She started to change the subject and I immediately got off the thought of Bombtrack.

Jimmy Helmsley: Where did you go? I know you weren’t in Africa. And I know your name isn’t Rachel Cohen.

She paused for a moment before standing up and walking away from the bed. She looked into my mirror before turning back towards me.

Rachel Cohen: I never wanted you to find out this way. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. This was never the plan.

Jimmy Helmsley: Plan? What are you talking about?

She sat back down on the bed and grabbed my face and pulled it close to hers.

Rachel Cohen: I never knew that I would fall in love with you.

What in the world was she talking about? None of this was making any sense.

Jimmy Helmsley: Who are you, Rachel? I’m talking about the real you.

Rachel Cohen: I want to tell you everything, but this isn’t the right time or the place.

Jimmy Helmsley: At least give me your name…

Before I could keep going, I started getting dizzy and fading in and out of consciousness. I could hear Rachel’s cell phone ring and her talking to someone else. It was starting to feel like this was all a dream as I was seeing white flashes and could hardly see Rachel anymore. However, I could feel her running her hands through my hair.

Rachel Cohen: I think you’ll be getting your answers sooner than later.

With that, I passed completely out. It felt like an eternity of sleep before I started feeling someone shaking me. I was still pretty much out of it, but I was started to regain composure a little here and there.

Jimmy Helmsley Rachel?

It wasn’t Rachel’s voice that I was hearing this time around. When I opened my eyes, I saw Brooke hovering over me. I could hear the words she was speaking, but I couldn’t understand what she was saying. The drowsiness was a bitch. Eventually, she slapped me across the face and that pretty much brought me back to the land of the living.

Jimmy Helmsley: Damn it, I’m awake!

She smirked and leaned off the bed and walked over to the counter.

Brooke Cooper: Well, with you asking for Rachel, I didn’t know where your mind was at.

Jimmy Helmsley: She was here, Brooke.

Brooke Cooper: Who?

Jimmy Helmsley: Rachel. She was here. Last night, I guess.

Brooke Cooper: I think you were dreaming, Jimmy. You seemed pretty out of it.

Jimmy Helmsley: I know what I saw.

Brooke Cooper: Were you taking your sleeping medicine again?

I nodded my head. Brooke took a breath and started going through some files.

Brooke Cooper: You know what that stuff does to you. I’m sure you were dreaming.

Jimmy Helmsley: She said that we would get the answers we’ve been looking for, sooner than later.

Brooke looked a little stunned when I said that.

Jimmy Helmsley: What?

She grabbed one of the files she had and tossed it in front of me.

Brooke Cooper: That’s why I’m here. We got an anonymous tip last night to look into someone named Keri Sanders. Look at the picture.

I opened the file and Keri Sanders was in fact the woman that I knew as Rachel Cohen. What did all of this mean?

Brooke Cooper: That’s not all. I started digging into Keri Sanders and it led me to something very interesting.

I was reading through the life of Keri Sanders. This person was only half of what I knew about Rachel. She didn’t grow up in Cape Cod. She didn’t go to school at New York University. It was like I was reading into a completely different person’s life.

Jimmy Helmsley: I don’t thing I could be anymore surprised.

Brooke Cooper: Keri Sander’s isn’t Rachel’s real name. She legally changed it after she finished med school.

What the hell was all of this? Why did Rachel lie to me about her entire life?

Jimmy Helmsley: If her name isn’t Rachel Cohen or Keri Sanders, then what’s her real name?

Brooke took her time with her response, like she didn’t want to tell me the answer.

Jimmy Helmsley: Just tell me.

Brooke Cooper: Her real name is Keri Scott. I believe you know her brother very well.

With those words, I started losing control of my body. I couldn’t feel my arms or legs. It was as if my body was numb lying on the bed. This couldn’t be true.

Brooke Cooper: If what you’re saying is true, and Rachel was here last night, then we have to find her. Do you have any idea where she might be?

I didn’t answer her. I didn’t want any of this to be true. I couldn’t let myself believe it.

Brooke Cooper: Jimmy? Listen to what I’m saying.

I took a number of breaths before finally gaining the poise to respond.

Jimmy Helmsley: I don’t know where she is, but I know someone that might can help find her.

It was time to visit the man that took my brother from this world. If I wanted all of my answers, then I needed Daniel Scott. This couldn’t have come at a worse time.
