The scene opens to a hotel room of moderate size there is one king bed in the room a flat screen television and a leather couch. Mike Miller is in the room wearing jeans a black NEW hoodie he appears to be in the middle of an argument with his friend and PR Manager Chris Bagwell. Chris is wearing black pants and a white button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up.
Mike Miller: No Chris I won’t fucking do it and you can’t make me!
Chris shakes his head and chuckles.
Chris Bagwell: Come on Mike you’ve done a lot worse.
Mike Miller: I’m tired of doing this fucking shit!
Chris Bagwell: Listen Mike I promise this is the last time.
Mike shakes his head and starts pacing back and forth.
Mike Miller: Oh sure that’s what you said the last time.
Chris Bagwell: Mike this is a part of this business you can’t just ignore it.
Mike Miller: Yes I can and that’s what I plan to do!
Chris Bagwell: Mike you will do this come on for me.
Before Mike can answer they hear a knock on the door Chris goes to answer the door.
Mike Miller: No don’t you dare open it!
Chris keeps walking towards the door.
Chris Bagwell: Mike you have to do this.
As he finishes that sentence he opens the door and in walks an elderly man in a grey suit. He has a slight hunch in his back and thick black horn rimmed glasses. He shuffles into the room with an old school tape recorder in one hand and a spiral notebook in the other. He looks at Chris and he shakes his hand.
Man: Ah Mike Miller it’s nice to meet you my name is Norman Monroe I’m with the Toronto Star…
Mike Miller: Oh great…
Chris Bagwell: I’m not Mike that jovial guy on the couch is Mike.
Norman Monroe: Oh my apologies.
Norman adjusts his glasses and shuffles over to Mike who gets off of the couch. He sticks his hand out to Mike who reluctantly shakes it.
Norman Monroe: It’s kind of stuffy in here do you mind if we do the interview on the balcony. My sciatica acts up unless I get some fresh air.
Mike replies unenthusiastically.
Mike Miller: Sure…
They both slowly make their way to the balcony Mike looks back at Chris who has a smirk on his face as he closes door leading to the balcony. Mike turns around and Norman has taken a seat at the glass table, he’s set up his tape recorder in the center and is looking at Mike.
Norman Monroe: Are you ready to begin?
Mike sits down at the table across from Norman.
Mike Miller: I guess…
Norman flips open his notebook and hits the record button on the tape recorder. Mike has a look of dread on his face.
Norman Monroe: So Mike you were a member of a white supremacist group correct? White Man Inc. what are your views on white supremacy in the world today?
Mikes just stares at Norman before answering.
Mike Miller: Whoa what?!?! What type of question is that and what does that have to do with Challenger Series?
Norman Monroe: So should I put you down as no comment? My readers will be a bit disappointed…
Mike Miller: Listen I think White Supremacy is what’s wrong with the world this day. To think that because of your race, sexual preference or ethnicity makes you better than someone is disgusting. When I first joined White Man Inc. it wasn’t about the race for me I was offered a chance to be powerful and to have backup wherever I went. It took me a while to realize what I’d become and what I was showing by being a member of White Man Inc. By being a member it made it seem as if I supported everything they stood for which is false I stood for one thing at that time and that was Mike Miller. All I cared about was personal success and putting everyone’s feelings towards me in the past. It took me a while to realize what I had become but it was a real wakeup call once I did.
Norman jots down a few things in his note pad.
Norman Monroe: The current NEW Television Champion is Doc Holiday in a video that went up on the NEW Website you said that you were better than him. Do you think you’re better than him because Doc is an African American?
Mikes jaw drops as Norman finishes the question.[/i
Mike Miller: Seriously what type of journalist are you misconstruing my words like that. Just after I finish that speech you’re going to accuse me of being a White Supremacist? No I don’t think I’m better than Desmond because he’s black I know I’m better than Desmond. I used to be like him though I came into this business and everyone told me I was the shit I had the money the fame and the girls. Eventually that all came crashing to a halt and for Desmond that crash will be at Challenger Series when I take his title belt.
Norman Monroe: So you support the beating of African Americans?
Mike Miller: What the fuck is wrong with you?
Norman scribble down some words on his notepad then looks back to Mike.
Norman Monroe: The competitor known as Iron Heart recently said that your “prime” was over, how do you respond to that?
Mike Miller: Wow I’m amazed a question that’s on topic and actually has to do with The Challenger Series. To answer your question I disagree with Iron Heart I believe that I’m just entering my prime right now I lost two years of my career to a neck injury and before that injury I truly believe that I was at the point where I was going to enter that next step of my career. Tragedy struck and I was unable to achieve what I wanted to at that point, now I’m ready and it took me a while to get back to where I was but now I feel as in good of shape as I’ve been since that injury. Iron Heart the masked man that has to hide his identity obviously he knows my past he knows what I’ve been through in this business. All my triumphs and defeats he seems to be aware of them. He’s right though I wear those triumphs and defeat on my face for all to see I don’t hide behind a mask I’m not afraid to let people see who I am. That’s more than can be said for Iron Heart the man who hides his true identity is it because he fears what will be revealed when he takes off that mask. It’s just a matter of time though I’ve been in this business for a while and I know that masked men don’t usually stay masked for very long.
Norman seems to have dozed off but as Mike finishes he snaps back to attention.
Norman Monroe: Ah yes very interesting…
Normans voice trails off as he flips through pages of his notebook.
Norman Monroe: Back to your last video you insulted Jason Matthews by insinuating that you don’t know who he is. You do realize that Jason Matthews is a Canadian hero!
Mike Miller: I’m sorry I have no idea who you’re talking about. Who the fuck is Jason Matthews? I know a lot of Canadian wrestlers but I’ve still never heard of this guy you’re talking about. I should probably do some research and see if this guy actually exists because up until now I just assumed he was imaginary. But you’re saying that he actually exists?!?! I don’t believe you but I’m going to take your word for it for now.
Norman has an agitated look on his face.
Norman Monroe: As a known racist was it hard teaming up with Asian American wrestler Misty Lyn?
Mike Miller: Alright that’s enough get the fuck out of here!
Norman Monroe: Wait what? What did I do?
Mike grabs him by his jacket and starts to drag him off the balcony.
Norman Monroe: Wait my tape recorder!
Mike turns around grabs the tape recorder and chucks it off the balcony.
Mike Miller: It’s waiting for you at the outside.
Mike continues dragging him into the hotel room and towards the door. Chris hops up surprised to see Mike dragging Norman.
Chris Bagwell: Whoa what are you doing?
Mike Miller: Getting rid of this hack!
Mike opens the door and shoves the old man out.
Chris Bagwell: What the fuck Mike?
Mike Miller: All this guy wanted to do was belittle me and take my words out of context. That is why I hate doing interviews.
Chris Bagwell: What do you think he’s going to write about you now huh?
Mike Miller: I don’t care he can write whatever lies he wants but my true fans know what to believe and what to take as utter bullshit.
Chris sighs and shakes his head.
Mike Miller: What?
Chris Bagwell: I’m trying to get your name out there and get some buzz for you so after Challenger Series you can still be relevant.
Mike Miller: Wait what?!?! After Challenger Series I’m going to be the NEW Television Champion I think I’m going to be relevant! You don’t think I’m going to win?
Chris Bagwell: It’s not that Mike I support you it’s just the odds are against you and my job is to make sure people care about Mike Miller.
Mike Miller: I know I’m not the favorite in this match and I know most of the fans don’t expect me to win this match but I thought that maybe my best friend believed in me. Sure I’m not one of the up an coming stars like Stall or Holiday nor am I the masked man or the former member of a successful tag team. But I thought I still mattered and I thought that you’d think I’d have a shot. Holiday has the belt he beat one of the best in NEW in Matt Starr two times but I still think I can beat him. This endurance match isn’t about who can get the first pin fall it’s about who can get the most without killing themselves. I’m built for this match I’ve been through matches that felt like hell from ladder matches to Singapore cane matches. This endurance match should be a breeze I’ve put my body through a lot of shit and maybe it’s all been building up to this one moment where I’ll have a shot to do something that nobody thinks I can do. I can have a chance to prove all the doubters wrong and provide some backing to the people that do believe in me because after Challenger Series I plan on having the Television Championship belt around my waist.
Mike storms out of the hotel room and the scene fades to black as the door slams shut.
