February 11, 2011. That was the day it all began. Travis Blaine did the unthinkable turning his back on me at Evolution 2.0. He sided with a man he claimed to hate, yet turned his back on me, someone he once called a friend. From that moment on, he has made it his purpose to make my life a living hell. Honestly, he has done one hell of a job with it.
People often don’t understand why I took it so personal when Travis Blaine betrayed me and sided with Dean Jones. Some people called it the average betrayal. In this business, he was the only person I could call a friend. He brought me back into the business. He gave me the opportunity to jumpstart my career when everything thought that I had become washed up. He gave me the second chance that nobody else would have ever given me.
I really can’t describe the feeling felt when I realized that Travis Blaine had been behind everything. He brought me back into this business to watch me suffer. He brought me back into this business hoping that I would fall back into my old habits. Travis Blaine never wanted to help me regain my career, only tarnish anything that was left of it. The one man that I considered a friend was the biggest threat that I never saw coming.

It was a breezy day in Boston. It had become that time of the year where the weather was perfect. Unfortunately, we only got those days during the end of September until the early parts of November. Once Thanksgiving rolls around, snow would have come and gone for one of the numerous times of the season.
These were the days that I wouldn’t be caught dead sitting around the house. In fact, I had been walking around town most of the morning, just admiring the city I have lived in pretty much my entire life. Still, it doesn’t help the scenery when people are still holding grudges against the Red Sox blowing their wildcard spot. There was even a homeless guy with a sign that read ‘Will give up pants for new franchise.
Not long after leaving the park, I walked to the police station. A couple of weeks ago, Brooke and I got into one of those arguments that really can’t be let go. She’s been digging into secrets Bombtrack has been holding and will not rest until the guy is locked away permanently. I figured since he was actually in jail right now, we could put the argument to rest.
I walked into the precinct and started looking around for Brooke. There were so many people throughout the room it was hard to pinpoint anyone. This was probably one of the rare times that she would be in her office. Brooke wasn’t the type to be alone in a room. She was one of those people that enjoyed the company of others while she worked.
However, I did see someone that could always make me smile. Cuz McKnight. He was one of the rookie cops. There was a key difference between him and most of the other cops here. He is actually a nice guy, in fact, he might be one of the nicest people I’ve ever met in my life. I start waving back as he makes his way over to me.
Jimmy Helmsley: McKnight! How’s it going buddy?
We share a fist bump.
Cuz McKnight: Alright I guess, we’re pretty swamped around here right now. Who would guess that one city would have this much crime?
I gave him an odd look. He was a nice guy, but he wasn’t the brightest guy in the world.
Jimmy Helmsley: How’d the softball tournament go? Did you work on that new pitch I showed you?
Cuz McKnight: Yeah, but people started comparing me to someone named Jennie Finch.
I didn’t even know how to respond.
Jimmy Helmsley: Did the pitch work?
Cuz McKnight: Oh yeah, I struck out four people.
I start patting him on the back.
Jimmy Helmsley: Then that’s all that matters. You wouldn’t happen to know where Brooke is, would you?
He gave me a funny look.
Jimmy Helmsley: What? Is she out?
Cuz McKnight: I’m supposed to tell you that Detective Cooper is living her own life and doesn’t need any guidance from…
I gave him one of those ‘are you going to finish looks?
Jimmy Helmsley: Well?
He starts digging around into his pockets. He pulls out a small wad of paper.
Cuz McKnight: Oh here it is. She doesn’t need any guidance from a pansy ass hypocrite who can’t mind his own business.
Ouch. Whoever came up with the sticks and stones phrase obviously hasn’t come across Brooke Cooper before.
Jimmy Helmsley: Does it really say pansy ass hypocrite?
He hands me the piece of paper. The words ‘pansy ass hypocrite’ is actually underlined three times.
Cuz McKnight: I was told to emphasize on those, so I had to make sure I remembered.
Jimmy Helmsley: I think you got the point across really well.
He smiles, but then remembers what I am complementing him on, and quickly stops smiling.
Jimmy Helmsley: Now that we’ve got her feelings out of the way, is she here?
Cuz McKnight: She’s out on assignment. Not sure where exactly, but then again, I couldn’t tell you.
He started laughing expecting me to laugh, so I went along with it. In the back of the precinct, I saw Brooke’s partner, Detective Whitt. I patted McKnight on the back and started following Whitt into the back towards his office.
Jimmy Helmsley: Whitter!
Detective Whitt: What the hell are you doing here Helmsley? I thought I told you never to step foot in here again unless it was a life or death situation, and then, I’ll still have to think about it.
Jimmy Helmsley: Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. I’m looking for Brooke and I know you know where she is working.
Detective Whitt: And why on earth would I give out that kind of information to you?
I stood there and thought about a couple of reasons.
Jimmy Helmsley: Should I write down a list? Or would you like a visual presentation? If you’re lucky, I might even let you convince me to do it in charades.
Detective Whitt: I don’t have time for this crap. Unlike you, there are people in this world actually trying to make a difference. While you go “wrestle,” there are people out there saving lives and catching criminals.
That little comment didn’t go over very well with me, but I let it slide, I didn’t feel like getting into a debate about the rights and wrongs of this world.
Jimmy Helmsley: I just want to know where Brooke is, I have to talk to her.
Detective Whitt: You mean grovel and hope she forgives you? She told me about your fight. For the first time in your life, why don’t you just live your own life and stop trying to control the lives of everyone around you. If Brooke wants to put a case together against Bombtrack, then she has every right in doing so. In fact, I’m helping her.
Jimmy Helmsley: What do you mean?
Detective Whitt: I have someone on the inside of Bombtrack’s crew. She’s feeding me information and we’ve almost got a case to bury this guy for good.
Jimmy Helmsley: You know he’s in jail right now?
Detective Whitt: He’ll be out before your little show takes place. He’ll find a technicality. With him, there always seems to be a technicality.
Jimmy Helmsley: You have no idea what you’re getting yourself into, what you’re getting Brooke into.
Detective Whitt: The son of a bitch is going to pay for what he did to my partner. You got your revenge for it. It’s our turn. Unlike you, we aren’t going to make him say he quits and just move on like it never happen. When I’m done with him, he’s going to jail and there will be no technicality saving him.
I shook my head. I didn’t have time for this right now. If Brooke wasn’t going to talk to me, then she would have to deal with the consequences alone.
Jimmy Helmsley: When this all turns around in your face, I’m not going to say I told you so, because at that point, it won’t even matter anymore. That’s the kind of road you are going down.
With that, I turned around and walked out of the office. I didn’t even look back at him or give him a chance to respond. I started walking towards the exit when I ran into Cuz again.
Cuz McKnight: Hey Jimmy, if you do happen to see Brooke, tell her she got a personalized letter waiting on her in her office.
I nodded and kept walking. I really wasn’t even sure what he said. Whitt had pretty much ruined the great morning I had going for me. I reached into my pocket and pulled out my cell phone. I started checking my messages. I had a couple of missed phone calls from my father. That’s a different story for a different day. I started dialing Brooke’s number, but she wasn’t picking up, so leaving a voice mail was my only option.
Jimmy Helmsley: Hey. I know you don’t want to talk to me, but please, give me a call. If you would have asked me a few months ago if I’d be calling your cell asking for you to speak to me, I would have called you crazy. Despite everything, we have become close friends, so I’m obligated to support you, even if you are acting like a whack job. I’m going to heading to Las Vegas for an interfed tournament on Thursday, so please, call me before then. I can’t let you go into this alone. If taking down Bombtrack will make your life easier, then count me in. I’ll see you around.
After hanging up, I put my phone back into my pocket and started walking back towards the park. It had set me in a good mood earlier and it would have to do the trick of putting me back into one.

Walking back from the gym, I decided to stop by the bar and grill to see if David was around. Monday was one of their busier days because of Monday Night Football. You would think that he would be around on the busier nights, but he was a family man. Instead of watching football with the guys, he would hang back and be with his wife.
From outside the bar, I could hear some people reacting to the game. It was the Indianapolis Colts vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. One of the teams was a major rival of New England and the other was across the country, yet these people get into the games this must. Plus they both suck this year. If it isn’t the Patriots, then I really don’t care.
Once inside, I had to look again into a large crowd looking for my friend. Unlike this morning, I actually spotted David in the back. Most of the flat screens were up front towards the bar, which is where the crowd is located. David is sitting in the lounge area reading a magazine. In fact, he was reading a New Era Wrestling magazine.
Jimmy Helmsley: I like what you read my friend.
I could tell that I somewhat startled him. He was surprised to see someone else back there with him instead of out front watching the game.
David Mason: Well, tonight, it’s the only sport I’m interested in. It’s the Fear Itself edition, so I’m just catching up to get ready for the show.
Jimmy Helmsley: I just realized the other day that this is the first pay per view this year that I’m not fighting for the world championship.
David Mason: Not that you know of. Remember, Outkast is the man that chooses his opponent for the championship. After what you two accomplished at Vindication, who wouldn’t want to see that again.
Jimmy Helmsley: Fear Itself isn’t about the world championship to me. It’s about me and Travis Blaine, nothing more, nothing less.
David Mason: Well, there is “RAW” Randy Altzer.
I look over at him with a disgruntled look.
Jimmy Helmsley: I’m about to go into this long speech about me and Blaine and you bring up that moron? Damn, you have achieved moment killer status.
David Mason: I’m just saying. Travis Blaine isn’t going to be alone. You shouldn’t be taking this match lightly.
Jimmy Helmsley: I don’t care if RAW is going to be in the corner. The only reason he is going to be at ringside is so he can garner up some brownie points with the boss. He knows that Travis Blaine hates me more than any superstar in this company. He’s trying to make a career move. Fear Itself will either break or make RAW’s career. Unfortunately for RAW, I’m have months of frustration to let out against Travis Blaine.
David Mason: Yeah, that guy has made your life pretty rough. Still, you got him pretty good with the entire break ins you have done to his place.
Not this shit again.
Jimmy Helmsley: How many times do I have to tell you? I had nothing to do with those break-ins. I don’t know how many people I have to tell. You should have heard Detective Whitt when he found out. He tried arresting me, but realized it wasn’t in his jurisdiction.
David Mason: That guys a tool.
Jimmy Helmsley: That’s not the point. The point is that either someone is trying to frame me for those break-ins or Travis Blaine is getting early karma for the sins of his past.
David Mason: What are you going to do about the twist in your match?
Jimmy Helmsley: I already told you that RAW isn’t going to be a factor in that match. Give the dude a banana and he’ll go away.
David Mason: I’m not talking about him.
Unfortunately, I knew who he was talking about.
David Mason: Have you talked to her at all?
I shook my head looking away from him.
David Mason: Even after you found out she’s been living with your dad? Jimmy Helmsley: I don’t want to talk about it, ok?
David Mason: Out of everything to talk about, this, the biggest factor, you won’t talk about? Come on, Jimmy, you haven’t talked about Ashlie since you found out she was living with your father. In fact, you won’t even tell me what happen that night.
Jimmy Helmsley: There’s nothing to talk about, ok? Ashlie can make her own decisions.
David Mason: Don’t let her get in the way of this match. You have been waiting for eight months to get Travis Blaine in the ring. She is the only bargaining chip he has left. There is no Legion. Ashlie is Travis Blaine’s final mind game. And most of the time, when it comes to her with you, it always works. You still haven’t gotten over the fact that she betrayed you.
Jimmy Helmsley: I said I don’t want to talk about this. I’m going into Fear Itself for one reason and one reason alone, Travis Blaine. I don’t care about Xavier Magnus quitting. I don’t care about who Outkast chooses to face him for the championship. I don’t care what Ashlie decides to do. Travis Blaine is my reason for walking into Fear Itself. After it’s all said and done, everything will change.
David Mason: What are you talking about?
Jimmy Helmsley: Don’t worry about it.
With that, I got up from the couch and started walking back through the crowd of people in the bar. For the second time today, I have walked away angry from a conversation. Once again, it’s getting time for something serious and I’m letting my emotions get the best of me. Fear Itself is about Travis Blaine. I’m not thinking about Brooke. I’m not thinking about Bombtrack. I’m not thinking about Ashlie. I’m not thinking about Outkast. Oh yeah, everything changes at Fear Itself.
