The scene opens after the NEW TV show goes off the air. We find ourselves in Big Phil’s locker room. He sits on a wooden bench, and behind him is his wooden locker where clothes and various toiletries reside. Phil still has his ring attire on that is still drenched in blood and sweat. He leans forward, his elbows resting on his knees; head hung low, just letting the blood and sweat drip from his face and mouth. They both collect on the floor at his feet, and silence looms in the well lit room. Every so often in life, a man will show his true colors and bear his soul. He will either break down to his hardships, or rise above them; very rarely both. In doing so, we see what the man is truly made of, and whether or not he can bear what road he takes.
Phil has done that tonight; we saw him both break down and rise above. We saw him bear his true colors, and open his soul to the world, right under those ring lights. Masked Killer dealt out a beating that few could ever do to Phil. Killer bloodied him, bruised him, broke him, but it wasn’t enough. Phil had stopped trying, and was looking for Masked Killer to end him tonight, but he failed. And then Phil’s guardian angel came to save him, his saving grace. Jeff Sams, Brandon’s brother, screamed and pleaded for Phil to fight, like he has promised Brandon he would always do. What hit Phil emotionally hard is that Brandon made him make that promise after Phil’s attempt at suicide. Jeff breathed a new life into Phil, a new meaning, a new purpose. Afterwards, Phil picked up his broken, beaten, and bloodied body only to drop Killer’s body.
Phil’s flood gates were open and nothing but rage flowed out. He destroyed Killer, decimated him, and took away his ability to walk away from the ring tonight. Jeff stood in the room, leaning against the wall, studying Phil quietly. He’s known Phil for years, for as long as Brandon has know him, and even though Phil had a close encounter with death, he hasn’t seen the man that’s before him. Tonight, he watched a man go from wanting to die to wanting to destroy everyone put before him, and Masked Killer was the unfortunate first. Jeff watched as Phil nearly killed a monster of a man that was sent to do someone else’s dirty work, and with that in mind, Jeff cringes at the thought of what he would do to Mark when Phil gets his hands on him. Jeff decides to break the uncomfortable silence in the room.
“Damn…”
Phil doesn’t move a muscle, or bat an eye lash, he just sits there. We all don’t expect him to answer, because we know how Phil is. We’ve seen him in similar moods, and he never speaks a word…but Phil surprises us.
“…I look that bad, huh?…”
Though his words could be taken as a joke, Phil doesn’t accompany those words with a joking tone. Even so, Jeff doesn’t waste the moment since he hasn’t seen Phil even smile for the past few weeks.
“Yeah, but did you see the other guy?”
Jeff chuckles a bit, attempting to lighten the mood, but Phil goes silent and still again. Jeff quiets down, and then pushes off the wall and paces slowly in front of Phil. He paces as if he has something on his mind, eating away at it. Phil just stares at the pool of blood and sweat that has collected at his feet. Jeff then faces Phil, and talks down to Phil’s still form on that wooden bench.
“What were you thinking out there? I mean, you could have been seriously hurt, or worse killed…”
Phil doesn’t lift his head, or move his eyes, hell it looks like he isn’t even breathing until he takes in a silent deep breath. Phil answers in a calm, but gloom voice.
“Killed? By a guy named Masked Killer who, that I know of, has never killed anyone in his life? He didn’t have it in him…”
Jeff shows a bit of frustration by nodding his head and moving his hands up and down.
“Okay, I get it, false advertising, but still. What were you thinking?”
Phil doesn’t answer him this time; he just sits there for what seems like a silent forever. Jeff lowers his arms slowly, and Phil finally shows some sign of life in his body and stands. He walks towards the wall at his side where a mirror hangs. The floor leaves a trail of blood drops leading to the wall, and when he stops, a puddle begins collecting very slowly again. Phil places his fists on either side of the mirror and leans on them, his head hanging, his eyes closed. Jeff decides that now isn’t the time to fish for answers in Phil, so he turns towards the door and opens it slowly.
“I’m going to grab us some drinks, I’ll be back soon.”
The door closes slowly, and the room returns to the looming silence. Phil is left alone with his thoughts, and everyone knows he has a lot of them. But, for possibly the first time since Brandon killed himself, Phil has no thoughts of suicide or giving up his own life. Jeff was right, Phil did promise Brandon he would fight, and even though Brandon is dead, Phil can’t back out of that promise. Through all this he lost his will, his courage, even his mind…but not his heart. And in his heart, Phil’s word is as good as gold; he will never break a promise, especially one as serious as always fighting. All he need was a reminder, and he would keep it, and he did tonight. Even with all these thoughts floating around in his own mind, he realized that he didn’t answer Jeff’s question because he himself doesn’t know the answer. Phil doesn’t know why he did what he did tonight, or why he almost broke a very important promise.
His eyes slowly lifted and glared at the man in the mirror. Once a stranger, but tonight he can recognize the man that stares back at him. He is still Big Phil; it’s just that now he has taken a road that he never took before. This road is dark and lonely, and Phil doesn’t know what lies ahead. The deeper he travels into the darkness, the more he realizes that’s what he needs if he wants to win this war against Mark and his dark side warriors. He now realizes that Mark could kill him if the opportunity is there. Phil now knows that Mark has no humanity left in him; he has lost himself in his own insanity and found others that see him as a leader. Phil knows that whenever Mark and he enter that ring, there’s a good chance one of them won’t walk out. Last week Phil would have gladly done it hoping he himself was the one who didn’t walk out.
Now, Phil only wonders how many bones he’s have to break before Mark is just another chalk in Phil’s win column. Because now, Phil has become one with his rage and is on his way on being one with his darkness. Once that happens, Mark and his minions will suffer an even worse beating than Masked Killer did. Phil’s thoughts are cut short when a knock raps at his door. Phil looks towards the door through the mirror, but doesn’t answer. The door then slowly opens, and Travis Blaine steps in the room. Travis sees Phil, and nods his head to him before coming in and closing the door. Travis walks over to Phil’s side, and Phil’s eyes have returned to gazing downward. He looks at Phil for a moment, basically assessing the damage that Phil let happen to himself tonight.
“Are you trying to be a liability? Why don't you try and relax before somebody gets hurt and you end up in jail.”
Phil doesn’t lift his head, but he can sense the slight concern mixed with the major frustration in Travis’ voice.
“Glad to see you too, boss…”
Travis looks at Phil for a silent moment, and then lets out a sigh before speaking again.
“Look, I know its been rough lately but you going off like this isn't going to help matters.”
Phil pushes off the wall and stands up straight, and then turns his head so he can look right into Travis’ eyes. Phil’s face is still running with blood as well coated with dried blood.
“There’s no helping matters when it comes to Mark and his followers. They asked for this, and what I did to Masked Killer tonight, he deserved that…I went easy on him…”
Another sigh escapes Travis’ lips, and he takes a step closer as an attempt to explain his next line to Phil as clear as possible, but not in a threatening way.
“Well think about it like this from now on... if you cross that line you may not ever get a chance at Mark.”
Phil now turns his body to full face Travis now, and Phil’s head lowers very slightly for a second before speaking.
“Travis…I know why you’re here. You’re a business man who has a business to look after, and also cares for the well being of his employees. But, no matter what I have to do, or who I have to go through…Mark is mine, and what I did to Masked Killer was only a blip on the radar compared to what I plan on doing to him. Nothing, no one, not even an act of God will stop me from getting my hands on him…”
Travis takes another step towards Phil, and Phil’s head slowly picks up. Travis’ next message can’t become any clearer unless he chose to beat it into Phil’s head physically.
“Fine, but I wont be held responsible for all the blood on your hands, you did this to yourself.”
Phil and Travis now lock eyes, and Travis can see what Phil is feeling. Phil knows this isn’t anyone else’s fight but his own, and that the bloodshed he causes will be his own doing. He’s come to terms with what he has to do to win this war with Mark and his minions. He’s willing to do whatever needs to be done, say whatever needs to be said, and is ready to live with the consequences afterwards.
“That’s where it belongs…”
Travis continues to look into Phil’s eyes, and realizes he isn’t going to get through to him right now. Phil has lived his life referring himself as a bull, not because he’s as strong as one, but because he’s as stubborn as one. Travis tried to get through to him, but for now the best thing he can do is walk away, and he does. Travis approaches the door while shaking his head, and Phil returns to placing his fists on either side of the mirror. Before Travis steps out, he stops and looks back at Phil.
“One more thing, you have Angor Hydd in a match on the next show…try not to kill him.”
Phil doesn’t move, and Travis doesn’t wait around for him to move. The door closes, and again we’re back to the same looming silence as before. Phil now goes through the new thoughts in his head. What Travis said, his attempts at getting through to Phil, and now Angor Hydd. Angor Hydd? The only time Phil has ever heard of Angor Hydd is when Phil and Brandon first arrived and were slated to face him and Mark in a tag match. Until, of course, before Mark dropped Hydd as his partner and replaced him with Kise Kazama. A smart move, maybe, but it’s irrelevant, and Hydd is irrelevant. Mark hasn’t many left to turn to since Phil took out Masked Killer. Mark was hoping that the monster would make short work of him, and since that didn’t work, Mark hopes to weaken Phil more with someone no one knows about. He hasn’t shown his face, nor spoken a word. The monster failed so now send the secret weapon, but what happens when the secret weapon fails? Phil has reached a level within himself that even he isn’t familiar with.
So now we have a revamped Big Phil that no one knows what he’s capable of facing off against a man no one knows anything about. One would think it’s a fairly even match, but after seeing Masked Killer’s face beaten in, everyone can already sense that Hydd is in over his head. All Phil needs to know is Angor Hydd is another follower of Mark’s, and sadly for Hydd, Phil is well aware of that. Phil’s eyes meet his own by way of the mirror in front of him, and he already see what he plans to do to Hydd. Phil knows he’s walking into another fight alone, no back up, no protection, just himself. And honestly, Phil wouldn’t have it any other way. He wants to prove that he can fight for Brandon himself, because he will never tarnish his name. With every fight Mark puts him through; Phil will now walk into it with his head held high instead of taking as many attacks as he can before ceases to breathe. Masked Killer had his chance for most of the match to take the thorn out of Mark’s side.
He toyed with Phil, took his precious time to methodically pinpoint every single attack to slowly break Phil down. But what it came down to was one punch, one fucking punch, and Killer’s plans were turned against him. Will Hydd be smarter than that, or will he try to hurt Phil further? Will he strike swift and precise, or slow and sure? Only time will tell, but in Phil’s mind, there’s no room for failure. One way or another, Phil will cut them all down. Just then, there’s another rap at the door before it opens, and someone that Phil would never expect walks through it…NEW World Champion, Xavier Magnus. If anyone knows Phil, they know that he and Magnus are bitter enemies. Magnus was one of the reasons Mark had turned on Phil in the first place, and was a part of the beating that put Phil and Brandon out of the business for six months. Needless to say, Phil’s flood gates are on the verge of opening again. Xavier sees Phil, and holds up his hands as to prove to Phil he isn’t here to fight.
“I just need to talk to you, I’m not here for any trouble.”
Phil’s eyes lower from the mirror and again stare at the floor, but his fists pressed against the wall are clenched so tightly that both his hands is a deep shade or red and white. Xavier approaches Phil, but knows to keep a good distance from him since he’s seen how unstable Phil has been lately. Mixed with the history these two have, Xavier thinks it’s better to be safe than sorry, especially since he’s sincere about not wanting to fight. Xavier lowers his head slightly, as if searching for the words to say to someone he never thought he would speak civil words to. Then again, he didn’t think Phil would choose to listen to the civil words over tearing Xavier’s jugular out with his bear hands.
“Look…I don’t know If you saw my promo last week, so I thought it was best to say this in person...”
Phil doesn’t lift his head, but we see that his arms are slightly shaking from him restraining his rage. Xavier sees this but he continues to say what he came here to say.
“I’m sorry…I know coming from me you don’t believe it, but even though we’ve all had our problems, I didn’t want Brandon…gone...”
Phil’s rage is getting more intense now, and he’s having a very hard time restraining himself, but he continues to listen.
“This situation between you and Mark, I’m in no way a part of it. It’s between you two, and I’m going to respect that…again, I’m sorry about Brandon…”
Xavier takes a step back and then turns to walk away. Before he can reach the door...
“Magnus!”
Xavier stops and slowly turns to look at Phil, who still hasn’t moved from his original position. Xavier stands still, not out of fear; he just wants to make sure he doesn’t let off any bad vibes that could set Phil off. Phil pushes off the wall, turns, and takes a few steps to be damn close to Xavier’s face. Magnus can see the blood dripping down Phil’s face and the blood seeping from out of his mouth.
“I will never trust you, but if you want to stay back I will honor that. But know this, once I’m done with Mark, you and me…we have shit to finish. Whether or not you have the world title, it doesn’t matter, you will bleed for what you’ve done.”
Xavier knew Phil wouldn’t let their past slide, and he wasn’t expecting it. Xavier also knows that Phil is a ticking time bomb, so getting into a brawl with him now or giving Phil any reason to attack is a bad idea. Xavier nods, showing he understands and agrees that their fight is for another day. Xavier backs away and heads for the door. Phil turns back to the mirror, and before Magnus steps out, Phil says one last thing.
“…I hope you haven’t grown too fond of having a brother…”
Xavier pauses for only a second, as if it finally dawned upon him how serious Phil really is. He’s out for Mark’s blood, if not his life. Xavier leaves anc closes the door behind him, leaving Phil alone with his thoughts again. Right now, all Phil can think about is how much Xavier will know exactly the kind of pain Phil is going through. When Phil destroys Mark, and possibly kills the man, Xavier will know the pain of losing a brother. The scene fades to black.
