Liverpool shot-stopper Jose Reina says he would be delighted to return to Barcelona in the future.

But the Spaniard has insisted that he has many things to achieve at Anfield before returning to his homeland.

Reina, who was educated at Barca, has hailed Victor Valdes and stated that his former club are not searching for a new keeper.

The outstanding stopper has been linked to Atletico Madrid in the past, but he remains focused on his club duties with The Reds.

“Every footballer would be delighted to play for Barca,” Reina told sports.es. “Regarding the fact that I know the club pretty well, it would please me, but I am a Liverpool player and feel great there. Besides, Liverpool are not after a new keeper.

“Barca have a great keeper in Victor Valdes, who has achieved a top season and hugely contributed to their Champions League campaign.”

He added: “This year we did fight until the end of the Premier League season, but at the end of the day we could not win it. We claimed the most points in our history, 86, but still finished second. The team have progressed.”

Reina has backed Barca to beat Manchester United in the Champions League final, and predicted a 1-0 win for the Catalans.

Jose Reina has warned his former club to go for Manchester United in tomorrow’s Champions League final or risk being “killed” by the Premiership champions.

Alex Ferguson’s men have already secured three trophies this season and will be hungry to be the first club to retain the European Cup since it changed format in the early nineties.

“It’s not easy to beat United,” he told Spanish daily Sport. “The key is to approach them head on.”

“You can’t go out there with a heavy heart nor with fear, because if you do they’ll end up killing you. That’s what we did.”

“United suffer when they don’t have the ball, like Barca. To beat them you have to dominate possession and play without fear, with nerve.”

“But I’m not the one to say it. Guardiola knows better than anyone what to do and how.”

The Spanish keeper began his career at the Camp Nou and has stated his desire to one day return to the Spanish champions.

“Any footballer would love to play at Barca,” he said.

“Knowing it as my home, it would really excite me [to see them win the trophy], but my place now is at Liverpool, where I feel very comfortable.”

“Moreover, Barca already have a great goalkeeper. Victor Valdes has had a great season and if Barca have reached so far, also in the Champions League, it’s because of his good work.”

Barcelona are set to launch a bid for Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina according to various reports.

The news comes after the European champions saw their contract talks with current number one Victor Valdes break down.

Valdes, who has a year left on his contract, has been pushing for parity with Xavi, who is paid £150,000 a week.

Barcelona are refusing to go that high and have been considering their options, and now appear to have set their sights on Liverpool stopper Reina.

Barcelona beleive a bid of £17m would test Liverpool's resolve, especially considering the financial difficulties the Anfield club are currently in.

Liverpool may also have to fight off Barca interest in midfielder Javier Mascherano. The Catalan club have already enquired after the Argentinean but Rafael Benitez has rebuffed their efforts, insisting even a bid of £50m wouldn't tempt him to sell.

Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich are looking at the prospect of buying Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina as their answer to the retired Oliver Kahn. The Spanish keeper has impressed during numerous weeks at Anfield despite Liverpool sitting uncomfortably in 16th place in the Premiership.

The player is highly rated and reports from Germany and Holland suggest the South German team may look to Reina as the ideal summer signing with Munich already leaking goals at the back this season. The news will alarm Liverpool fans as they feel their team becoming somewhat of a footballing supermarket after news that Tom Hicks could not get backing to re-finance any deals.

Reina has been at Liverpool Football for sometime now and he may also feel it is time for a new challenge having missed out on Champions League football this season and possibly the next if he decides to stay at Anfield.

With talk during the summer of a possible move to Arsenal, Liverpools owners know they have a good quality asset on their hands and they could possibly encourage a bidding war that would lead to a transfer fee of around €20m.

With Liverpool being knocked out of the Carling Cup this week, it leaves the Merseysider’s only two real chances of silverware both in the FA Cup and Europa League although manager Roy Hodgson may feel that a Champions League spot is more important as he tries to keep his players for next season.

Reports are claiming that Alex Ferguson will make a January, possibly Summer, move for Liverpool goalkeeper José Reina amid claims that he is unsettled at Anfield.

The former Villarreal man has been a fantastic linchpin for the club, but is said to be disillusioned by seeing the Reds slip into the drop zone this season under Roy Hodgson’s leadership.

Ferguson is looking for a new goalkeeper with Edwin van der Sar likely to retire at the end of the Summer and is said to be readying a £12m offer to swipe the ex-Barcelona man.

Reina is set for talks with new owners NESV as he seeks reassurances over the club’s direction and aims.

Reina is under contract at Anfield until 2016 so there are no concerns about being forced to allow him to leave – as long as NESV can convince him he remains at a club with ambition.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has warned Manchester United not to make a move for goalkeeper José Reina.

Recent reports have claimed that United are joining Arsenal in pursuing the Spanish international as each look for replacements for their current custodians.

Arsenal have been linked with Reina sporadically over the last few months, but it appears that United’s interest has particularly irked Hodgson.

“It was just one of those stories that seems to occur – it’s just disappointing and annoying,” Hodgson told the Liverpool Echo.

“Pepe is fantastic here, he is a lifeblood of this team.”

“Everything he does around the club is excellent – he is always lively in the dressing room, he is always first class in training and he always wants to do more to improve.”

“He demands better from those around him, he is always pushing people on. He is a player who we hold in the highest esteem.”

“We have heard nothing from Manchester United and, more to the point, we don’t want to hear anything from Manchester United.”

“If (Sir Alex) Ferguson is looking around at the end of the season and he has got lots of money to replace (Edwin) van der Sar, he might very well want Pepe Reina because he is the best around.”

“But we do not want to sell him. I would like to think that we are going to become a successful club once again and Pepe is crucial to that.”
