Furidan wasn't paying attention to what was happening. He was instead standing in a watchtower on a hill, looking in the direction of Kalgoure. He was looking through a telescope to spot any activity. "Ahh, no sign of life within some twenty miles." Satisified, the dwarf made his way to the inn. The rain didn't seem bother him. "I need someone to deliver" he paused upon seeing the destruction. "what in the name of the Stone Gods happened here?" |

Axis shrugged. "Well, whatever you're talking about, it's none of my business." He got up. "Say, Zekat... if you need me, I'll be around. I don't want to mess with things I don't understand. Don't think you should, either." He trudged towards the stairs. No-one stopped him. --- The girl woke up shortly afterwards. It was still dark. She stood up shakily and leaned against a nearby rock. Anyone watching from a distance would have thought she had just put out her hand to steady herself. If they'd gotten closer, though, they would have noticed the red gleam in her eyes, and a tiny spark of flame fall to the ground. No-one was watching, in any case, so this was moot. She closed her eyes and stood up straight, but then fell to her knees again. She'd make her way down the hill at sunrise. It was too early, now... The girl on the hilltop slept, as the rain continued to fall over Ruan. |

Sieg was looking slightly less pale, though he flinched a bit at hearing Riotus call the soul 'nothing but mana'. He looked slowly to Meg, who was turned to the window, then he looked to her sister, who was busy asking Riotus questions. Riotus spoke, at long last, after stroking his long, white beard for a time. "There... is an access to the Ether, in a mountain range West of here... A shrine to the god of dragons was built there, so very long ago. But, there isn't anything to see in the ether, unless you can find a soul who's body was destroyed, and was not returned to the ether properly." He said this dully, though he actually found the Ether exceedingly fascinating. "I think... That thing shall head to the shrine as soon as it can..." |

Meg felt Sieg flinch at that and loosened her touch on his hand. If he cringed that much at the soul being mana, how would he think of that dream she had when she was out cold earlier? *dreamland* She looked out on the world from a shelf of some sort, confined to a glass jar. Everything looked distorted and the people who came by the shack she was held captive in always tapped at the glass. She hated that, it caused such a change in pressure that her whole being ached. that's when she realized she had no body. She tried to scream but her vocal-chords were non-existent, and she could not leave the jar. Then someone came in and promplty slapped the person tapping the glass. "Now is the time to test my creation with a human soul!" Human soul? am I the human soul to be experimented on??? She tried her hardest to escape that jar but nothing happened. a vesel of some sort lay on a table, she couldn't make out the exact shape of it. but whatever it was looked suspiciously like a doll. She gasped when she realized that she was free of the jar - the lid had been removed and a hand placed over the top of it, but there were still cracks. She pressed herself against the cracks, causing a white leakage to come from under the man's hand. the man instantly dumped the jar down over the doll's heart and removed his hand. Meg found herself trapped within the doll. A sudden, steady pulsing in the chest of the 'doll' told her that she was not inside of a doll. NO! she tried to scream...but instead...the cries of a newborn baby reached her ears. "SUCCESS! This is the first time in the history of the world that a human soul could be animated by means of elemental mana!" "Truely impressive, sir, but will it grow like a normal human child? i must be able to fool the parents in question." "I don't know, but those idiots don't know the first thing about mana. it won't make any difference to them whether this is a real baby or a body made from mana with a very old soul inside of it. in any case...i have created the thing, and in the end i shall destroy it, if it so finds a way to use the mana around it." it can't be... they managed to give me substance? i should be able to manipulate this thing and get myself out of here... Something shifted outside of the window and took off running. Meg saw Michael running like hell to keep from being discovered...he did a damn good job of it too, it was as if the wind was on his heels. Meg went to shift her body so she could get out of there, and found it very frustrating to do anything. she quickly got the hang of her arms and legs, though everything else wasn't coming as easily. "Look, she's trying to roll off the table!" The madman caught her, "There there dear child, you could fetch a fair price at market if i so chose. but instead, i am giving you to a normal family who will raise you as their own. and you will never know the difference." From that point until she was six was nothing but blackness. *back to reality* Meg pondered this dream in her mind. what could it mean? was it something that actually happened, or something that the evil thing had planted in her? she shook her head and sighed quietly. I don't know what that deam's about sister, but i'll try to find out. this Riotus person seems to know a lot. i'll prod him for as much information as possible before we leave with Furdian. Meg looked at Zekat a second or two after he had looked away from her, to notice he was looking at her sister. Perhaps... I don't know, sister, but don't push it. he's really tired right now and i don't think it would be wize. Alright. She took notice of his slightly improved color and siphoned a little more mana into him. She then took her free hand and touched the ground. Sieg could feel mana pulse though Meg's hand as she sent the command to the sky to quit raining. She just then realized that she was still holding onto Sieg's hand and blushed. my parents were able to feel when i used magic...and they were normal! so he should have been able to feel that, too...god why do i have to be so stupid?!?! She squeezed his hand to try to mask whatever feeling he might have gotten from her in his normal hand but didn't break the connection. Somehow, she felt better about the predicament she was in. Sasha nodded toward Riotus, "Sasha understand. Sasha thank Mr. Riotus person." She smiled and got up, then turned to Furdian. "Sasha deliver something for Mr. Furdian?" Meg laughed, "You'll need somebody to go with you, Sasha. you don't know your way around." Sasha hesitated, unfortunately she's right. "Sister come with Sasha?" Meg didn't give a reply. she wanted Furdian to say he didn't trust the small child with the mesage so she could stay in Ruan a bit longer, or at least travel beside Sieg a bit before they had to spit paths. |

Furidian looked at Sasha curiously. "Well, if you really want to and your sister agrees with it, I suppose you could ride my Grom to Mountainridge. He knows the way, though you would have to be extremely careful with the letter. Please make up your mind quickly, as I must be off to Kalgore first thing in the morning, and help would be appreciated there." |

Meg sighed, "alright, we'll go." "horay!" Sasha jumped all around in happiness about being able to help the dwarf. Meg smiled - she liked seeing her sister this way. Her soul seemed to be at peace with itself...for once. Meg looked around and noticed everyone was watching Sasha's furvent display of energy. If i want him to know, he needs to know NOW. i'm not sure if he'll be here when i get back... She stood, went to the other side of Sieg and gave him a very, very quick kiss on the cheek before running into the night as if a ghost was chasing her. Sasha noticed what meg had done and quit dancing around. she looked at Sieg to try to read his mind, which drew a lot of attention to him. |

Sieg stood up, and brushed himself off. "Well, whatever that thing is, it can't be very good. It feeds off mana, right? It's going to the Ether, where it can have all the mana it wants, right? There's no choice here, we have to stop it." his voiced no longer wavered, and he steady himself with his gun. "I don't care what it wants, or even what it is, but I know it isn't good." He sighed, rubbing his head. "Look, I just want to see this land the way it used to be, I don't want to be some hero, I just want that thing and those black-clothed people out of here. Derun doesn't need another war!" |

Axis sat upstairs on the floor in his room. Most of his possessions had already been carelessly thrown into the leather bag that was perched on the bed. Not that he had many possessions, of course... He listened as the old man went off on a tangent. Ether. Shrines. Souls. Shit. It all served to make him even more nervous. He shouldn't have stayed here in Ruan, not in the middle of a battlefield. He should have found out that Deph wasn't here, thanked them and left. Every day he wasted, the chance of her still being out there grew less and less. That was his outlook. Axis thought some more. He'd leave as soon as it was light. He'd go back to his home in Garuden, and from there he'd find a way to get to Septra. The army had passed by Septra on its march to Garuden, probably because it was small and insignificant. And well out of the way - it was located in a mountain range. Maybe Deph had sought refuge there. Yes, he'd said he'd work for the Zekat guy. But if that man was going to mess with the arcane, Axis wasn't going to follow him down. Underneath him, he heard Zekat suddenly cry out, "Derun doesn't need another war!" That's right. And don't go trying to cause another one. |

Furidan layed down on his bed, thinking about his upcoming journey. He already had carefully placed his food and belongings in his backpack. The journey shouldn't be that bad. I got company and have plenty of food and water. I'm off first thing in the morning. I'll send Grom back to Mountainridge. Though, I don't know why I'm helping these guys, considering they barely helped me. All they did is give me some meat for the journey. But these attackers could prove to e a threat to our society. Plus, we could prove to be benefitial to each other. While thinking, he heard Zukat go on a rant. He then heard him say "Derun doesn't need another war!" Neither does Mountainridge, but it looks like it's heading that way, and don't screw it up while I'm questing. Furidan was lost in thought until he eventually fell asleep. |

Meg ran out to the edge of the city and looked out - something still didn't feel right, even though she had made the rain stop. Something just didn't set well with her, and she didn't know what. Gradually her sight became dimmer - she could only guess that her eyes were turning back to their normal blue color. Then she recieved a thought from Sasha, "Derun doesn't need another war!" Sounds like Sieg's upset... ... I should leave him alone. Without heed to Axis, what he might say or what he might think, She ran off into the woods and started singing as she did. Sister, please come back into town. i don't know how to ride Furdian's creature, and i'm not sure where to deliver the mesage, exactly... I'll be back in the morning. in the meantime, there's something i need to catch up on. A vine snaked its way down from a tree. Meg grabbed on and was pulled up into the cover of foliage. Her mind went blank. Sasha's eyes went wide as she started frantically looking around for anyone who might listen to her. Nobody seemed to care. She went into Furdian's room and saw he was asleep, so she sat down, thinking he'd wake up soon. She soon curled up into a little ball and started sleeping soundly. |

Riotus shuffled slowly out the door, he would be back in the morning, but for now, he had some research to do. Sieg left, and wandered through the empty streets of Ruan. He reached a small cliff overlooking the lake, two trees on it's sides framing the sky with their branches. "She said she was going to marry me here, right before I left to join the military." He had remembered the face of a girl with short brown hair, who had fallen in love with him, though he never took her affections seriously. "This place brings back too many memories, and no people." He slid down a bank, to the water's edge. He let the cold water splash against his boots, the rain was letting up, but not stopping. He wondered what had happened to the people he had known, he didn't see many familiar faces when he was evacuating the village, not even any of the men in his own militia he knew. I don't belong in this place anymore, do I? I've no family, nor anyone to remember me... |

Meg woke up in the middle of the night, covered in vines. various needle-like needles stuck into her skin and when she moved they produced a tingling sensation thoughout her body. "Hmm, what a nice dream..." She tried to stand up and found the vines gripping her tighter with every move she made. "I'm sorry, but i have to get back now...people will be wondering what happened to me if i'm not there in the morning." The vines hissed as they pulled away, leaving her refreshed. As long as she could remember that tree had kept her from falling appart at the seams...literally. *flashback* Meg stood in her room combing her hair when she noticed most of it came out when she ran her brush though it. "MOM! MOM MOM MOOOOOM!!" "What is it d---" *gasp* "What are you DOING?!?!?!" "I'm combing my hair, like you told me to. Mom i have a headache too." "MICHAEL!" Meg's dad came running in and the two parents hurridly discussed something in tones Meg couldn't hear at the delecate age of seven. "Meg...It looks like the person we adopted you from..." Mina's voice caught in her throat and Michael continued for her, "That person...made you from...magic. Meg, you're not human." "I'm not human? what do you mean?" "I'll explain to you when you're older. Come on, i think i know how we can fix your hair." Michael picked Meg up, who was clutching a wad of hair in her small little fist, and began running toward the forest. When he got there he placed Meg in a tree and told her to stay there while he thought about what to do next. Then the vines of the tree had taken her hair from her and wrapped themselves around her head, poking her in various places. when they pulled away, it was attached and her head didn't hurt anymore. "Meg...how did you get your hair back the way it was?" "I didn't do it, the tree did." more vines started to circle around the skin of her arms. small leaflets shot out from the vines on contact with her skin and a whitish-green substance was put into her. She started to feel better all around - a pain in her limbs that she had gotten used to drifted away as the substance was put into her. she closed her eyes and fell asleep. when she woke up her father was asleep in the tree beside her, but he was not encased in vines like she was. She yawned and stretched, and the vines let her go. She prodded her dad and they went home. Meg overheard a conversation Michael and Mina had. "I swear Mina, that tree is alive! it snaked its vines around her and kinda held her there, and now her color's back and everything!" "Michael i don't believe a second of that nonsense. Magic is nothing but a myth, it doesn't exist! and we don't want Meg buying into it either, it's nothing but poppycock designed to waste children's time. I've seen her, Michael - she latches onto one task and keeps to it without doing anything else normal children do - if she starts to grasp this...MAGIC thing she won't ever let go of it, and will be so obsessed with it that she won't get married or have children of her own." "She's not human, Mina. i doubt she can have children anyway...besides...you remember that piece of magic that the old coot was working on? i think that's Meg! we got the decoy while our REAL child was sent off into slavery somewhere!" "Michael don't talk like that!" "How else can i explain what happens when you're not around? things sprout up in the corner after her punishment's done, sparks come from her fingertips whenever she moves them, flowers grow overnight after she's talked with them...there's no other plausible explanation!" "Feh. i still don't buy it." "Then can you explain it better?" Mina stormed out of the room without answering Michael's question. "I'm made of...Magic?" Meg said silently to herself, "I need to find out what i am, then." *end flashback* She thought about that dream again and her eyes went wide. "THAT WAS TRUE! i'm made of...of...mana!" She looked at the vines and the tree again. It looked old...worn...as if it had been traveling. "And this tree's been keeping my body intact by giving me its mana..." She turned around and hugged the tree, not sure what to do or say in thanks. She felt the vines snake around her back in a hug, while siphoning more into her. Then she was lowered to the ground. Meg noticed her hair had grown longer during the neccicary upkeep as she pulled her shirt back on. She remembered how short it had been when she left... too short for her tastes, though she did like the particular shade of brown it had been. It was still that shade of brown... Makes me wonder what happened to everybody...how they've changed.I remember... some time ago... i was head-over-heels for somebody... a face came to mind. a face that looked a LOT like Sieg Zekat's face. could he be... ...? She walked very carefully to the river and slid down a bank to look at her reflection in the water. She still couldn't believe she was made of mana, even if it DID make sense. She stared at her face - it had changed in six years. She had been ordered to run away with Sasha after she had promised to marry somebody...but then he left for the military... She looked up and saw Zekat slide down the bank opposite her. He DOES look a lot like... She waited a while, then dove into the river and swam accross to get to him. a very sharp object caught her side as she swam and tore it open, sending a small trail of crimson down the river with it. but there was something different about this shade of crimson... it had a slight green tint to it. When she got to the other side she smiled at Zekat and held her side, "my appologies. you've probably seen enough red to last you a lifetime." |

Morning came, and Furidan was ready to go. He went to the stable, and got Grom ready for his journey. He carefully and repeately rapped a small pouch around his neck. "Here boy, take this letter back to Mountainridge. Try not to get spotted or get lost in a blizzard again" Furidan said while feeding him. Furidan carefully put the letter in the pouch and zipped it up. He stroked Grom a few more times before he let him go on his way. Furidan had his supplies ready, and had about a years worth of food and water in his backback, though he assured himself the journey would take alot less. He also fixed up his axe, and took a back-up one just in case. He strapped on his armour, complete with shoulderpads and helmet. It was the traditonal Dwarven military uniform. Furidan made his way to Zekat, wanting to thank him. "Thanks for your help. If Grom reaches Mountainridge, and Illias agrees, the army should behere within two months. You'll have 60,000 new soldiers, ready for action. Have that Sahsa woman and her sister meet me at the crossroad where the watchtower is located" Furidan said. "Oh, and I hope you don't mind if I take a horse." He climbed on one nearby, and rode off to the west. |

Sieg nodded towards Furidan "You can have a horse, if you so desire." The, turning to Meg, he added, "Let me get that cleaned up..." He extended a hand, and suddenly his mind caught the image of that girl again, and this time it would not leave. It didn't leave when he was walking her to the 'NN', nor when he reached for a thick, dusty, tome about glyphs. He flipped through the pages and glanced slightly at her, before flipping a few more pages. "Here it is..." he said, placing the book on a nearby table. He had taken her to one of the smaller rooms of the 'NN', which was being used for supply storage at the moment. It goes without saying that they didn't have much in the way of supplies. "It's a book about glyphs, a way of using magic withouthaving to understand the way mana works..." he said, mildly. He traced a circle in the air, which seemed to glow slightly, without being visible, then drew a symbol inside of it. It was the glyph for a basic curative spell, the kind that would be taught first in a mage's academy, but it was effective nonetheless. There were no mage academies in Derun anymore, however, the only people who taught magic now were the Rune Knights of the Temple of Issvyar, but that was upon the other continent... Meg's wound glowed with a green light, before sealing entirely. "Good as new." Sieg said, with a small smile, before reaching towards the door. |

Meg blushed as he healed her wound for her. "Thank you very much, Sieg." He's very nice, i wish... i... ... hadn't... Her mind took her back to the place she had gotten wounded...the place of that memory that would not exit her mind. she remembered the man's face she had promised to marry...it was in that same spot! "Say...where i got hurt, at the river... ... did a girl promise to marry you there...? I...I have a memory... of that spot... and I... he... he went off to join the military right after... ..." Meg's voice trailed off and she hoped he caught the meaning of her words; she couldn't go any further at the moment. Sieg, i ... i think that person... w-was you... ... ---- Sasha woke up to find that Furdian was not in his bed and she had been left behind. She started to cry silently as she pieced together what had happened the night before. She tried to reach her sister though telepathy...and for the first time, found that she couldn't. has my telepathy worn off like people said it would? or... is she just blocking my brainwaves? She fought with her sister's brainwaves for a while and then closed her eyes. I see...so i cannot read a person's mind when they seem to have an infatuation. that's good to know. She got up and combed her hair and then went to look for her sister. |

Axis had left Ruan by this time. He hiked up a nearby hill. Garuden was just ahead, he reminded himself. Over this hill, and it'd be in sight. He paused for breath. Maybe there was only the one hill to cross, he thought, but it was a pretty damn big one. Axis started scanning the nearby landscape for a place to sit down. He'd been walking for a little while. He was near the summit now. The weather was fine. He could afford to take a little break. His eye caught a nearby rock. It was quite flat, but pretty wide. The lanceman walked over to take a closer look. You never knew what sort of animals lurked in these parts, especially since the army had banned all types of hunting party from leaving Garuden, and Ruan was obviously locked in its own conflict without paying heed to the lands around it. It wasn't just a rock. It was some sort of cloak as well. How strange. He lifted it up, preparing to toss it aside, and froze. There was someone under that cloak. From the looks of it, a young woman. Her matted hair lay in strands around her thin face, and her clothes were equally ragged. Her eyes were shut tightly. Axis grabbed the girl's wrist, almost without thinking. Yes, there was still a pulse. A faint one, but there nevertheless. Which meant that this girl needed some serious attending-to if she was going to keep it. He considered his options. Past this hill, Garuden was still a fair distance away. And however much he paid the guards at the gate to look the other way, he wouldn't be able to escape the officials who'd come inquiring about some unidentified girl with no passport. Axis hoisted her unconscious body onto his back and reluctantly started to make his way back down. Maybe he could just dump the girl in the "NN" and leave if he was lucky. |

Sieg stared at her for a while, before catching himself and turning away. "Yes... I did, though I highly doubt I'm the same person I used to be..." He crossed his arms behind his back and decided to take a walk again, while humming an old Eldrenian battle hymn that had been passed down for eons through the military. Faces mangled in his mind, names became muddled, the straight lines of Ruan's abandoned homes melted away into nothingness. Sieg cleared his mind and turned to the moon above. "Issvyar... Who am I?" |

Furidan was thinking over. If they don't show up within five minutes, I'm gonna go on my own. Did I remember to bring everything? Got the food, water, the axes? Wait, oh no! I left it in the room! Furidan rode the horse back to town as quickly as he could. Once there, he jumped off and ran to the inn. He didn't care if people were looking, he wanted his item back. He furiously searched his room, but with no luck. He tossed the bed, dresser, and ripped off some of the wooden flooring. Still no luck. Damn. Someone must have taken it. I'll ask the inkeeper if he saw someone with a shiny object. He ran back down and asked the innkepper the question. "What do you mean no? That item is very important, and if it's lost, well, you better hope you have a good pair of legs on ya" Furidan threatoned. Furidan walked out of the inn, searching for Meg, Seig, or Sasha. Perhaps one of them might have picked it up. |

A little under an hour later, the mercenary arrived panting back at the "NN". "Whaddya want now?" said the innkeeper irritably. "Didn't you just check out earlier?" Axis said nothing at first, but gently put the still-unconscious girl onto a nearby chair. "See this?" he asked. "Don't know who she is, she was near the top of the hill. She's been out since I found her, but there's still a pulse, and she's definitely breathing. What she needs is a good meal when she comes round, y'hear?" He placed a few of his remaining coins on the counter. "That'll pay for her... a couple of nights, at least." He turned to leave, but was interrupted by the innkeeper. "And where do you think you're goin'?" "I'm leaving, okay?" Axis said, his turn to be annoyed. "I'm a busy guy, I got stuff I need to do in Garuden. If I hadn't found her, I'd have been there by now." "No, you ain't," the barkeeper retorted. "You know what they've been doing to dead bodies lately. Dump 'em in somewhere sayin' they're "unconscious" and "need shelter", sneak out during the night, next mornin' the building's gone up in flames. No, you're stayin' right h-" "I'm not from the army and I don't hold anything against you. Why would I do that? Look..." Axis picked the girl up and rested her on the counter. The inkeeper looked mortified. "Check her wrist. Go on, she's not gonna wake up any time soon. Pulse? Yeah, a pulse. The army couldn't have planted her when they could've just revived her and done a mindwipe." The innkeeper shrugged, with a defeated expression. "Even so, rules is rules," he said. "She is alive, I'll grant you that, so I'm not gonna charge you until she wakes up or dies, but you're not leavin' this village until she does, you hear?" Axis sighed. "So, any rooms free on the ground floor?" |

Sieg found no consolance from either the moonlight, nor from his god. He had no answers. He had no truths to go on. His hands felt empty, and his heart had nothing. He suddenly longed for a battle, in which he could forget himself entirely, cloaked only in the madness of the red storm about him. His hands burnt, longing for a sword to swing. He shook his head, and the madness would not recede. He trudged slowly over a hill, his vision fading, not having any intention of going anywhere or staying where he was. He swayed, and fell, and his mind was numb. Riotus leant on his staff, watching the events unfold, and sighed tiredly. "If that boy keeps at it, he won't live long enough to give the Keltirith an heir..." |

Some time later, a girl woke up in the "NN". She lay on the rough bed, refusing to open her eyes for fear of what she might see. When I was... last awake, she thought, I was on that hill... Wasn't I? Did I... teleport? I'm sure... that I was all out of mana... after performing that... She shook her head weakly, still not opening her eyes. No, I'm probably wrong... Somewhere nearby, a voice made her sit up. "Hey, she's moving! Oy, innkeeper! Hey, will you listen to me!?" The girl gave a small yelp; she had just felt her back click. She hadn't realised she was in such bad shape. The owner of the voice came into sight, obviously having misinterpreted her noise. He looked like a fighter type. His long, silvery hair was covered by an oddly-shaped cap, which he tilted to her with one of his gloved hands. The girl, however, was now paying more attention to what was in his other hand. The sight of it sparked a vague recollection in her subconscious, which the rest of her mind ignored. "Sorry," he said in a much quieter voice. "Did I startle ya?" He noticed what the girl was looking at and gave a small laugh. "You worried about this?" he asked, propping the spear against a nearby chair. "This's for the army, not you." It took a couple of seconds for the girl to comprehend this. It had been so long since she'd had anyone else to speak to. "Where... am I?" she managed. |

"My, my, is everyone in this backwater town falling unconcious at once?" Came a voice from just outside the 'NN'. Attached to the voice was a thief, though that was very unimportant in Ruan, there was nothing here to steal. His name was Ark, but that, too, had very little importance in Ruan, at least, for the time being. He was wrapped in a long, waterlogged cloak, with a collar pulled up to hide part of his face. Part of the cloak was raised, and when he walked further into the 'NN', it was revealed to be because he was dragging the unconcious body of Sieghart Zekat. "Oi, innkeep! Y'know this man?" The innkeeper gave a slight nod, "He's been staying here for a couple days now, runs a militia, or something." He shrugged, and searched under the counter for something. Ark shrugged and grumbled lowly as he dragged Sieg to the nearest room. He found the door ajar, and inside was a ragged-looking man, perfectly fit for the mercenary type, speaking to a younger girl. "Hey... This belong to you?" he said, pulling the body into sight. |

"Hey... that's Zekat, isn't it? Sieghart Zekat! He runs the Ruan rebel militia... what's left of it anyway..." Axis looked up at the newcomer. He looked kind of suspicious - covered face, covered everywhere else. He also looked a lot like the men in the gang of thieves that Axis had once encountered while outside Garuden. Axis stood up. "Who are you? Are you with the army?" he demanded, eyes wild. "What did you do to him?!" A small squeak from behind reminded Axis that he still had company. He turned back around. "Sorry," he told the girl. "You feel up to going outside? It's not raining any more, and this guy -" he threw a look at the intruder - "would like to use this room now." The girl on the bed hesitated, looking scared. She shakily stood up. "That's better. Say, would you mind staying out in the hall for a little while? We... uh... have stuff to discuss." The girl still looked terrified. Her eyes passed from Axis, to Zekat's body, to the intruder. Then, she fled the room with alarming speed for someone who had just been unconscious, slamming the door behind her. --- Outside, the girl slowly relaxed and let out a breath she hadn't realised she had been holding. She weighed up her possible courses of action. Both of the people who had seen her awake were holed up in the same room. She could run, she could escape this wretched hovel. But she had no idea where she was, and with next to no mana left in her, she wouldn't be able to rectify that on her own. Her back clicked again, and she winced. Maybe this was all because of that spell. She tried to remember what she had learned, ages ago. The soul is made of mana... With no soul, a body starts to break. She suddenly found that she had no desire to leave, quite apart from the notion of getting lost and wandering for the rest of eternity. That mercenary guy... he seemed rough, but there was something about him that she thought was missing. What was the word... attracted? No, that wouldn't be entirely accurate... The girl closed her eyes and willed that something, anything come and take her back to where she needed to be. Nothing came. |

Furidan was hastily looking around for his item. He knew the powers of it, and he was going to use it for the intended powers. He didn't want it to fall into the wrong hands. His search brought him to the nearby river, where a shiny object on the other side caught his attention. What the hell is it doing there? The river looked deep, and Furidan knew Dwarves weren't good swimmers, and the river did look rather deep and wide. He slowly stepped in the shallow part, while grabbing onto a rock with one hand. He knew he couldn't reach the other end. He noticed it shake, and knew it could potentially fall in the river. Thinking rashly, he jumped to the other end. He grabbed his item, but missed the edge. The dawrf pocketed his item, but was soon over come by the current, which quickly drifted him away. He yelled for help right before being submerged by the water. |

Sasha heard Furdian's cry for help and was instantly at the river's edge, looking for him. I won't be much of a helper unless i find a way to get him out of there... She saw him pass in the current and ran alongside the river as fast as her legs could carry her. Her feet caught a nearby rope and she fell into the water as well. HELP!! she cried though telepathy, SISTER! HELP ME!! She gave up after that and noticed the rope was still around her ankles. she threw part of it to Furdian so he could grab hold and managed to spot a tree branch hanging low enough that she could grab onto it. It's a thin branch... i'll have to grab it and scramble up it to save both of us. She made herself as aerodynamic as possible and she started to catch up to the dwarf. then, when the branch was overhead, she grabbed it and started climbing onto the shore as fast as she could. when she got there she felt the power of the river trying to carry Furdian away and fell forward. OOF! Furdian, hang on tight! she managed to project into his mind, I'm not that much of a rescuer but i'll try! She was dragged along the shoreline and got cut open by sharp rocks many times before she was able to catch a tree with one of her arms. she wrapped her legs around it to keep her stable and started to pull the dwarf toward her with both legs. Gods, my arms and legs will fall off after this... She managed to get him close enough to the shore that he could climb out on his own. ----- You don't seem that different to me... Sieg... I... ... I still love you... She watched him leave and decided to stay at the hotel until he gets back. that Furdian character can wait, i'm not leaving Sieg again anytime soon. [later...] Meg saw Sieg's unconcious body brought in and somehow managed to restrain herself. holy moley, what happened to him... ... Gods i hope he's alright. She noticed the girl as well. She's got next to no manna in her... say! i can take her to that tree of mine and it'll heal her like it heals me! Meg went up to the girl, "Hello. My name is Meg... You are low in manna, yes? I know a tree that can heal you, if you want." Just then she heard Sasha's voice try to say something in the back of her mind. it was faint...she was far away. but she couldn't make out what was said and she kept her attention on the girl, wanting to help her and then get back to Seig. She noticed he was taken into a room and the door was closed... perhaps he needs medical attention. |

The girl in the hall jumped. She hadn't noticed anyone else here. "Uhhh... n-n-no," she stammered. "That wouldn't help. I mean, I... I'm fine. Really." She gestured towards the closed door where the two people and the knocked-out man were. "I was, uh, told to stay here. By this other guy. Um... don't know his name. Fighter-looking guy. Green cloak, weird hat. Says he rescued me." The Meg girl looked surprised, but didn't say anything. The girl decided not to press matters any further, and retreated to her own thoughts. She can sense a mana supply, but her soul pattern is different? Then, she has to be a... no, that couldn't be right... They always told me that those weren't around any more... The girl sensed someone trying to penetrate her thoughts. Without thinking, she tried to create an emotional wall. She had enough to mull over without anyone poking their nose in. Then she remembered she had no mana left. Oh shi- She collapsed at Meg's feet. Her body twitched a few times before becoming still again. |

Furidan woke and found himself back in the inn. Somebody must have rescued him. He looked around, and saw that Sasha girl near him. "Oh, so it was you who saved me. Thanks for that" Furidan said. Furidan reached into his pocket and took out the item he was looking for. It was of spherical shape, and emitted a glowing red light. Inisde was a swarm of red and blue clouds. It seemed intact, which Furidan was quite thankful for. "See this? It's what I almost died for. This is one of only two in the world, both belonging to the dwarves. I'll tell you what it does, but you gotta promise me you won't tell anyone about it, not even your sister. There are some people who would have our heads for this item. It's the other reason I'm here." |

"The name's Ark. Ark Riley." Ark spread apart his cloak, revealing everything he had, which was a small pouch of coins, which were quickly running out, a small container of rations clipped to his belt, a light chain armor above his clothes, and sheathed at his hips, two very suspicious daggers, one which glowed an eerie blue, and the other whiched leaked a red mist from it's scabbard. His clothes were worn and ragged, but without holes. He shrugged and pulled the two daggers out, spinning them boyishly. "Don't expect to find these in your back, now, alright?" He replaced them quickly, and pulled down his collar. He wasn't particularly rugged looking in any aspect, more fit for the ladies man sort of thief glorified by fiction, though he never thought once about acting like that. He was fine with stealing from the rich and keeping it. Perhaps using it to buy some ale at the tavern. He did enjoy treasure hunting, though access to the more expansive ruins had been prohibited by the small gangs loitering around, not like Ark Riley would ever waste his time stealing from them. He wasn't sure where he had obtained his weapons, or who he was for that matter. He didn't have a family or a past, as far as he knew, and the only thing he could ever remember before waking up, half-drunk in a tavern, was a buzzing noise and the words 'Ark' and 'Riley.' Beyond that, was just an empty blackness. "So then, who would you be? You're a mercenary, so I doubt I'll be getting your real name, am I right?" |

Meg panicked, HOLY SHIT! she can't take much more of this... Meg picked her up very carefully and noticed her spine was dissintegrating. Damn...she really IS out of manna! she has an appointment with that tree ASAP! Meg took off running. when she got to the tree she placed the girl in its branches and watched the tree curl its vines around her, only to lift her and place her firmly in another tree, which did nothing. "Hey, what's going on here? i thought you were the healing tree!" A vine wrote a mesage in the dirt, "only for certain people. i am not compatible with her body chemistry." Meg nodded. Of course...i forgot, she's probably made of actual genes, like normal people. "Then, can you tell me somebody to help her?" a vine wrote another mesage in the dirt, "Wake up the tree she resides in. it will help." Meg did so by touching the trunk with the palms of her hands. the tree's vines wrapped around the unconcious girl and siphoned just enough manna into her to heal her bodily wounds and gave her just a little extra to work with, and then placed her on the ground. "hm...she won't want to wake up where she is now, it'll only confuse her." Meg picked her up and walked back to the inn, and placed her in a chair near the door to Sieg's room. She'll be alright now... in the meantime, i want to see if Sieg's alright. Meg tapped on the door and identified herself. "May I please enter?" ----- Sasha smiled at Furdian. her arms and legs were quite red with the effort used to bring him out of the water and back to the inn. she looked quite exhausted. "You're welcome Mr. Furdian. Sasha promise not tell anyone about red-blue cloud-sphere. Furdian tell Sasha about red-blue cloud-sphere now?" I wonder why Meg didn't respond to my cry for help...perhaps she was saving somebody herself? |

"All right" Furidan said as he sat down. "But don't judge me or my people because of it. Eons ago, the Gods created this world. Species were forming, but they saw the great mountains. They started carving some stone on the northernmost montain. They carved people out of them, and blessed them with light. They also build a grand door to protect these people from possible threats, blessing it so so one could ever break them. They took a special liking for these people, because they were ones were weren't consumed by hate and greed. They also granted the early Dwarves with two special spheres, made from the Gods themselves. They told the Dwarves that these stones were a mix of God and demoic powers, and should never be used unless it was an emergency. The stones had the power to destroy an entire landmass. After the Gods left, the Dwarves guarded their spheres with great care. They had never been used, not even with the two wars with the deadly Centuar. But now, we are on a brink of a third war with the Centuar, and their newfound Orchish allies. Yes, we are going in their land to rescue my borther, but I will be using this sphere to destroy the continent of Kalgoure. The races there only exist to spread hate and death, so I am doing the world a favour. Though, if I am discovered with this sphere, the Centuar will surely use it for their purpose, to destroy Mountainridge and perhaps this land. We can't destroy it either, as the tremendous powers inside will destroy half this world. This is why I must do this and you must help me" |
