It is a time before peace on Derun had been achieved, long before the heir to the title of Keltirith appeared... A war spreads like a reckless flame across the countryside, to the small, lakeside village of Ruan... Sieg Zekat, a soldier in a small militia, formed to protect the people from the chaos of this war, takes sword in hand, and prays against the raging river of war. His small militia band attempts to defend Ruan by sniping from the tops of evacuated homes. This is a world where old machinery, old weapons, have been nearly lost from the world. Guns are a thing of legend, and the underground catacombs near Ruan have been enough to arm Sieg and a few brave men alongside him. This is an era where the sword is law, where men fight with spears and magic. The empire has crumbled, the old king dying of illness, the child-king to replace him kidnapped. This is the world of Derun, this is a time before peace, before the Hero... Yawnish, anyone can join, as long as your character makes sense. Form of doom, time! Name: (First and Last) Age: Gender: Weapon: Magic: (if any) Job: Family: Bio: At Beginning: (Just where are they, what are they doing at the beginning? I'd like if this mainly meant Sieg's militia, but it could be something as simple as hiding in a village under siege we visit later) And me... Name: Sieghart (Sieg) Zekat Age: 24 Gender: Male Weapon: Rifle, at first; long sword Magic: None known, can cast with Glyphs if the pattern is taught Job: Unemployed, formed a militia Family: Parents deceased, no siblings Bio: He comes from a family with a long history, a history that has always managed to become inextricably linked to battles and legends alike. His parents died of illnesses when he was in his teens, and he became a temporary soldier afterwards. After the collapse of the empire, he fled from the military, back to his hometown of Ruan. He caught wind that Ruan and it's catacombs had been a prime target for many of the restless roaming groups in the area, as well as a larger, more imposing army, which appeared immediately following the collapse of the empire... At Beginning: On top of a roof, aiming his rifle, of course! |

Sounds interesting. I'll try to come up with a character soon. Also, can we create our own towns for our characters? |

You got me interested. Name: Axis Reyfer Age: 31 Gender: Male Weapon: Lance, bow Magic: Basic supportive Job: You... pay him to kill stuff? Family: Younger sister whose whereabouts are currently unknown, rest of family killed Bio: Axis' parents died in a hunting accident, and both he and his little sister Deph were looked after by their older brother, who became ill when Axis was nearly 17 and died shortly afterwards. Axis then went out to get a job and support his sister, but when he finally found one and came home, she was gone. He worked as a teacher, instructing young people in the ways of weaponry, but when the empire fell most schools were raided for their valuables and shut down. Since then, he's turned his skill to mercenary activities, but he still has a high sense of morals and would stand against this new army if they didn't outnumber him 600,000 to 1. He also retains hope that somewhere, Deph may still be alive... At Beginning: At a bar in the occupied town of Garuden, trying not to get on the bad side of anyone. Anything wrong with that? -.- |

So, Vin Diesel and Chuck Norris walk into a bar...
|
Name: Shaharazad Age: Rumored to be roughly 50. Gender: Male Weapon: Summoned creatures and Shadehounds. Magic: Powerful invocations of summoning, Chaos energy. Job: Mercenary Family: Killed in a vile ritual to attract the attention of the Khan of Abyssal Summonings. Bio: Shaharazad was born roughly 50 years ago, though this is more rumor than fact. He was born insane and remained so. His litany of madness puts even the mad Arab Abdul Alhazred to shame. Sociopathic tendencies, mild schizophrenia, various sexual philias...For most of his early life he kept these hidden from others, as he was bron with infernal wisdom, enough to not allow himself to die until his part has been played. The power of magic tempted him, and he slew his parents to draw the Khan's astral form to him, in order to bargain for the power needed to begin his magical studies. He has never told what he gave up to gain the Rubric of Matyr, which was burned into his flesh above the key chakras. This opened to him the ability to channel Chaotic magic, and he did so with great skill. He later spent a decade researching methods of breeding creatures born on Creation and one summoned by his magicks, and achieved some success, though he chose to control few of the creatures. Many were let loose into the wild to plague who they may. His most successful project were the Shadehounds, a brother and a sister, born from mortal wolf stock and sowed by the Chaos demon Shilkizd, a being of shadow and radioactivity. The result was Shaharazad's favored servants. At Beginning: Wandering the countryside while the Shadehounds hunt game. ((Hm. Wish I could make the background larger. Oh well, I'll add flashbacks mid-RP.)) |
| Vin Diesel is a monstrous entity who lies "dead but dreaming" in the city of R'lyeh, a place of non-Euclidean madness presently (and mercifully) sunken below the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Vin Diesel appears in various monstrous and demonic forms in early myths of the human race. Racial memory preserves Him as humanity's most basic nightmare. Vin Diesel is the high priest of the Great Old Ones, unnatural alien beings who ruled the Earth before humanity formed, worshipped as gods by some misguided people. It is said that They will return, causing worldwide insanity and mindless violence before finally displacing humanity forever. | |

His younger brother, Brann, disappeared after forming the Explorer's Guild of Mountainridge while on a mission to the dark canyon where Fran was killed. Lessee... Centaurs? Dwarves? *opens up a giant leatherbound tome and writes somewhere in there under Old Races* RA is the story of the world of Derun, one drenched in blood, and it is divided into chapters. Nighthawk is, in my iteration of all the chapters, one of only two not directly involving the heir to the title of Keltirith, the Hero, as he is called by the people. Magic and swords, humans against the dark forces within themselves. The grandmages, the near-godly beings who oversee the world, have become distant, the forces of Will, Valor, and Truth, especially weakened. Hatred engulfs the land again, Nighthawk is the tale of a great war, that consumed the people, years before the Keltirith found an heir. There was no legend for the people to turn to, many gave up hope, or cast aside humanity. Our story begins here... (Oh, yes, you need not worry about the Chapters, I'll put those in as I see fit) Chapter 1: A Flame in the Dark... Thunder rolled across the hills. Men loaded their guns, bracing themselves against the wind and the rain. In the distance, the sickening sound of hooves and boots, stained with blood, in the mud echoed in their ears. Sieg, their leader, was crouched upon the roof of an abandoned inn, many of the others hid behind crates, doors, inside buildings. They numbered no more than twenty-one, and the force approaching them appeared to be almost a hundred. Tension grew, lightning flashed... "Just a little more..." Sieg said, attempting to calm the nerves of a shaking boy next to him, skinny built, with messy blonde hair. A shopkeeper's son. "Many of you have never seen a gun before, much less fired one. Just aim, and pull the trigger. There will be time for morals later, we must protect our homes and families now." He said, calmly and commandingly. His time as a soldier serving him well now. Slowly, the black-clad men reached the bridge, leading across the river to Ruan. This was the best time, he could see it perfectly. "Fire!" was lost as thunder crashed above them, and powder ignited. Men fell dead, as Sieg's small militia reloaded another shot. A horn was blown, and arrows now volleyed from both sides. Another shot, and more fell dead in an instant. The rain grew fierce, stinging his eyes as Sieg frustratedly reloaded his gun, shielding the powder from the rain. He ducked behind the raised edge of the roof as an arrow flew at him. A light in the inn flickering turned on. "Dammit! No one is supposed to be here!" he yelled, turning and taking aim at an archer, who toppled into the river and was carried off by the current. They were getting closer now, though corpses upon the bridge had slowed their movement. Beside him, the blonde boy fell dead, two arrows lodged in his chest. The sound of hammers falling on nothing echoed, much of the powder had been soaked by the rain, Sieg's was the only gun left usable. The troop readied their swords, they had already thinned the bandits' numbers almost half. "May Issvyar's light be true..." Sieg muttered under his breath, and fired again. Lightning flashed, thunder crashed, and the drums of war rang strong. (I'll suppose CC would be best suited to take the next part, yes? His character being in Ruan, and all) |

OOC: n-nani? "I'll suppose CC would be best suited to take the next part, yes? His character being in Ruan, and all" um...i'm not sure what you mean by that. like, CC's chara. is in the building under your chara? if it's something else i'll delete this post. ^^;; BIC: Meg had seen the impending doom of the city march alongside her hidingplace about ten minutes ago. her little sister clung to her with her eyes wide open in terror. "shh...it's alright Sasha" Meg said in a calming voice, "they're gone now." then they heard the gunshots ring out. "sister sister they're going to come look for survivers and we'll be caught!" Sasha said as tears started rolling down her face, "i don't want to be caught!" Meg nodded and faked a smile for her sister, "neither do i, Sasha. neither do i." she chanced a peek above the surface of her hiding place. about a half mile down the road she could see the bridge to her town and the carnage that covered it. the body of an archer floated down the river with the current accross the road from them and a tinge of panic gripped Meg. she had not been ready to see the carnage that close. she ducked back into her hiding-place, "Sasha. i'm going to go out for a little bit." "No sister wait! what if they find me when you're gone?" "they won't," meg said with a sly grin, "i'm going to make an earth shield over you. as long as you don't touch it from the inside no one will be able to find you, and you'll be able to stand and walk around a little." "Sister what'll i do for air?" "I've already got you covered. certain 'potholes' will come out of nowhere around the shield." "well... ... o-okay...but promise to come back for me!" "i promise." Meg quickly stepped out of her hiding-place and waved a hand over the hole. a mound of dirt appeared over the entrance and holes in the ground for Sasha's air supply appeared out of nowhere. "now...to stop this rain..." she ducked behind the earth-mound so she wouldn't be seen and threw her hands up to the sky. a hole in the rain appeared around Meg so she wasn't being rained on. "Much better. now to get them help..." Meg grinned to herself, "who said a sudden surge from the river can't take care of half of them?" she moved her hands ever so slightly and a huge swell in the river came crashing towards the army. |

Unaware of of the chaos in Ruan, a Garuden mercenary sat at his table in silent thought. Every so often, he lifted his tankard and drained a little more from it. Eventually it was emptied, and he looked up. "Oy... bar-keeper-man-guy..." he managed slowly. The barman came over. "You're not having another," he said sharply before the man at the table could continue. "I need to close up for the night, I have my wife and children to go back to. And you need to move as well," he added, "you've been sitting there for at least two hours, all your friends left ages ago." The mercenary shook his head, getting up reluctantly. He brushed his long, silver hair out of his face and walked out of the door, slamming it shut behind him. Once outside, Axis snorted. "Bastard," he muttered to himself. "I wasn't even drunk... well, not that drunk..." He thought about what the locals he'd met had told him. He'd asked if they'd seen any odd-looking girls. They'd talked about a few sightings, around nearby Ruan. Their descriptions hadn't really matched Deph, though. And the men were drunk at the time. Even if it was the sister he'd neglected for so long, Ruan had apparently been overrun by the mysterious new army that had already taken Garuden. Deph was never a fighter - she preferred to read, and to study. If it was her, she'd almost certainly be dead. The army had razed half of Garuden to the ground, quite literally; what would they think of one more defenceless girl? The chances of finding her there were one in a million. But one in a million chances are bound to come up sometime. Axis smiled as he exited the town gate. He slipped the half-asleep guard some coins on the way out. (tell me if this doesn't fit and I'll... amend it) |

Sieg raised his head over the wall he was hiding behind, rubbed his eyes, and looked again. The numbers were down to perhaps twenty. He had rubbed his eyes because he had seen perhaps thirty or so men be washed away by the river. "Well it looks like we get to live, after all!" he rallied, leaping off the roof, behind a crate, firing as he did. Battle came easy to him, it was the aftermath he could never handle. But, that would be later, at the moment, the only thing that mattered was protecting Ruan. Fifteen! More bodies fell silently to the mud. Twelve! Some dropped their weapons and fled, arrows further reducing the number, leaving only one very confused-looking swordsman, who was immediately clubbed over the head with the pommel of a sword and dragged off. Sieg wiped his brow, and looked to the other side of the river. "Sir, what's wrong?" a black-haired boy asked him. "I could swear I saw someone over there... It's probably nothing." He said, as he went to investigate the source of the light in the inn. OOC: Yeah, that's what I had intended, Neo, though it could be a dark Jedi for all it matters *shrug* Hey, stuff happens, if I controlled everything in RA, Soul of the Hero would be a novel. |

OOC: so desu ka! ^_^ alright then. i shall not mess with the light in the inn. X3 BIC: Meg smiled as she peeked out from her hiding place again. everyone had either ran or was dead, thanks to her and the person with the gun she had seen earlier. She went back over to Sasha's hiding place and touched the dirt-mound with her hand - it dissapeared and Sasha looked up with frightened eyes. "Is it over sister, huh?" "Yeah, it's over. you can come out now...but be prepared to see dead things." Sasha crawled out of the hole and gasped. she didn't know about war yet, and Meg didn't want her to, but things happen that she can't control. She got down on her knees and hugged her little sister to her, trying tom comfort the tears in her eyes and not caring if anyone saw her. any decent person would leave her alone, she thought. "S-Sister, where is everybody?" "I think they either ran for their lives or are hiding...like you were." Meg knew that wasn't the truth, but she thought it best her sister didn't know. she stood up with her sister in her arms and walked into the town, trying to find her house. when they couldn't find it they followed Seig into the inn to ask for a place to stay. upon entering the in, Sasha burst into tears "We're never gonna find our house! sister what're we gonna do??" Meg was silent, as she was at a loss for words. |

A small man stood in a nearby inn, thinking to himself. "Bah, this so-called war doesn't scare me. I'm a dwarf. I've fought the Centuars, some undead, and almost every other foul thing that roams these lands. Should someone ever try to kill me, I'll give them a facefull of axe!" The dwarf was practising his divine shield skill, which emmitted light every time he performed the spell. However, a knock at the door stopped the dwarf from his thoughts and actions. He slowly walked towards it, stroking his axe. He cautiously opened the door, only to find the innkeeper. "Furidan, someone at the front door wishes to see you. He claims he's your friend. Shall I let him in?" "Very well." The inkeeper nodded and left. "This is obviously a trap. I'll give this person a new face if he tries to kill me. I'll make him regret ever making this decision." The door opened, and Furidan drew his axe. |

Whoa, what happened here? There was no sleepy guard at the entrance of Ruan to bribe. From the looks of things, there didn't have to be. It would have been wrong to describe the street Axis stared down on as deserted; there were plenty of people around. They just weren't moving. He walked up to one of them and gingerly poked one with his spear. Nothing... It's like a ghost town... but the army only reached here about a week after Garuden! Deph, I really hope you never came here... Axis looked around some more. A little distance away, a half-burnt sign labelled "NN" swung gently on its post. The windows of the nondescript building had its curtains drawn, but Axis thought he could see a light inside. Light inside = civilisation. Civilisation = people, preferably not dead. People who weren't dead = good. Axis kicked the door open and walked inside. |

So, Vin Diesel and Chuck Norris walk into a bar...
|
The rain lashed the hill. At least, if the weather had any sense of drama, it would have. The weather, however, doesn't care a bit about impressive scenery effects, so it was just dark. It was somewhat cold, though, which went for something. Shaharazad stood upon the hill, lost in the stars. He knew what flew between them, drifting through the emptiness and madness. He smiled. One day, they would come and lay waste to the cursed forces of Law and Sanity. Until then, however, Shaharazad must pursue that quest alone. The continuation of Madness and Chaos, so that they might never be vanquished forever. He laughed. A pair of howls caused him to stop. To the ordinary ear, they would only sound like massive wolves, but to one trained in the ways of magic, it was a chorus of howls, each of different pitch and species, underlined with a warble that called out to forces of Madness. It was the sort of howl that caused an atheist to put a cross above his door. The owners of the howls loped up to Shaharazad. They looked like massive wolves, but sleeker and thinner, possessed of odd triangular heads and massive-toothed jaws. Their eyes were flat, but Shaharazad knew their desire well. They ate sanity. He placed a hand on each of their heads, smiling like a priest after securing a conversion. He then threw back his head and laughed, the unhinged laugh of the darkest madman. What they imparted to him was good news. Chaos was already spreading through the land, and Madness was not far behind. |

Sieg stared in bewilderment as four things entered the room at once. A short man, with a wild, untamed beard in front of him, two girls who had slipped quietly behind him, and a lanceman, who abruptly kicked down the door, which nearly crushed the pale-faced gunner. A half-burnt sign fell from above it, which read 'NN.' "Who the bloody hell are all you people?!" was the immediate cry, and it was impossible to tell which of the men had said it. The innkeeper shuffled about, gesturing towards a dining room, a fairly cramped one, with a thin layer of dust upon it. A candle was dusted off, lit, and set in the center of the table. Sieg merely grunted and said something to another rain-drenched militia man, who began carrying wounded to the inn's beds. He pulled off his hat and wrung it dry of rain, to wipe his brow with. "Well? If none of you are going first, my name is Sieghart Zekat, I'm the leader of this small militia. Who are you, and what are all of you doing in this town?" he said as curtly as he could, given what had just happened. Outside, Ruan was not quite, a few shovels had been located in sheds by the empty streets, and men were getting to work digging holes. This was only the beginning of something far greater. |

Sasha tightened her grip around Meg's neck tighter at the "who the hell are you" comment and wimpered in fright. Meg just looked around to try and tell who said that. when Sieg had introduced himself Meg stepped forward with a terrified Sasha in her arms. "My name is Natasha Rainmaker, but i prefer to be call Meg. This is my little sister Sasha, and we just happen to live here." Meg's face showed a hint of annoyance for a second or two, and then it dissappeared completely. "i thank you for protecting our town." Meg put Sasha down and gave Sieg a small curtsie before Sasha could latch onto her leg. "Pleased to meet you." Sasha just nodded in subtle-but-polite agreement with Meg. She looked around with wide eyes as she made note of where everything was - she wanted to know where all the good places to hide would be in her new pseudo-home. "Sister says she can't find our house. Sister says everyone's ran away...is that true, Mr. Seig?" Meg sighed, "It's Mr. Zekat, Sasha. Let's be polite to him, hm?" Sasha looked embarrased and looked at her shoes as she played with the dirt on the floor with their toes, "I sorry Mr. Zekat. Forgive Sasha?" OOC: misspelling in Sasha's line is intentional. :P |

The long-haired lanceman stepped forward last. "Name's Reyfer," he said quietly, tilting his hat. "I'm from Garuden - you know Garuden? It's not so far from here. A day's walk at best. But the army's there, so I thought there wasn't much point in staying there for long. Seems this place is even worse, though," he added, glancing out of the inn's grubby windows at the street outside. He started to offer his left hand, but paused and withdrew it. This man, this Zekat, hadn't he just said he led the Ruan rebel militia? So he'd probably be the best authority on any sightings in the local area... "Hey, let me ask you something," Axis continued, as calmly as he could. "I mean... you all seem well-travelled, you've probably seen a lot. I'm tracking someone down. Not as part of my job or anything. It's more of, shall we say, a personal thing. But... I was wondering if anyone's ever seen an odd-looking girl in these parts? I heard a rumour that there was." |

Meg stared at Axis with wide eyes, 'what if he's looking for me?' she thought, 'some people have described me as odd looking...' Sasha looked back up at Meg without waiting for Sieg's reply, "they not looking for you, sister, you look normal." Meg blushed red as a cherry and smiled sheepishly. she had forgotten her sister could read minds. Meg patted Sasha lightly on her head and thought, Hush! sometimes it is best to keep one's mouth shut and let your sister's thoughts be PRIVATE thoughts rather than proclaiming them to the whole room...now everyone thinks i did something wrong or have a guilty conscience. Sasha nodded at the unspoken command and looked back at Sieg, waiting for his reply once again. her eyes said she wanted Sieg's forgiveness, even if she wasn't going to see him once more in her lifetime. |

Sieg sighed and leaned into a chair. "From Ruan, hmm? I've never seen you before, but I haven't been home in a while. I grew up in this village, back when it was green, and the streets were busy," he said, gesturing out the grime-covered window. "Wasn't much, but nobody ever complained about it. An odd looking girl? I saw someone in the lightning when I first fired my gun, but I was focused on the enemy ahead." He added, nodding towards Reyfer. He stood up, dropped a small bag of coins on the counter, for the innkeep's time. "Well, you should probably find someplace safe to rest, unless you intend to stay here and watch the wounded," and with that, he stepped over the fallen door, into the rain, and back onto the roof. A long night? Indeed... |

"Yes. i remember it too...it seems so distant from this time, it's nothing like it was." Sasha kept staring at Sieg without changing her expression. "W-we have to stay here, i'm afraid. our house seems to have been destroyed." Sasha looked up at Sieg, "I'll help watch wounded people. i'm good at watching people." Meg's heart skipped a beat, he SAW me??? shit...i'm glad he was focused ahead instead of on me, he could have recognized me... "Relax," Sasha's voice sounded in her mind, "if you wanted to you could just bury them alive with one of your earth attacks. it's nothing big." Meg nodded, "Yes...we'll help watch over them." *flashback* A lone woman sits on a table with her head in her hands. "Michael, i don't know how much longer we can keep her alive." "Ah, it's alright Mina. i'd give my life for that little girl if i had to." Meg walked up to them, "Daddy Sasha says she wants to see you." The man ran into the room and screamed, "MINA! MINA COME QUICK! Sasha's out of bed by herself!!" Sasha had climbed out of bed and was walking very slowly toward her dad with a pained smile. The extremely fragile-looking two-year-old had been born prematurely and somehow lived with the ability to read minds. however, that ability had kept her from using her true voice to date. Meg sighed - Sasha was always the center of attention. but that didn't matter now, she was getting ready to move away. then Sasha would be THEIR problem. Markings that looked like tribal tattoos snaked themselves around Sasha's arms and legs. a small blue dot on the end of her nose was the tell-tale mark of telepathy before the age of three, and everyone else thought that's what the arm and leg markings meant too. Sasha stumbled and caught herself on her hands and stood up again. Meg let out a sigh of annoyance - everyone else had learned to walk by age two, but no...her sister had to be the mind-reading freak. Sasha moved her mouth and tried as hard as she could, and then it happened - she spoke. "I wuv you daddy!" gunshots could be heard outside as the father hugged his child, "i love you too sweetie. daddy's gotta go fight the bad men now." he handed her to meg and told them to get out of town...so they ran. far, far away. Meg cared for Sasha as her own, and her markings all dissappeared except for two bands around each ankle and one squigly band around each wrist that uncannily resembled barbed wire. They had decided to come home a little after they dissappeared to show their parents that they had dissappeared. who knew that four years later they'd be hunkered down in a foxhole, watching their home be destroyed? who knew that their father would never come back, and their mother would mysteriously dissappear? Not Meg. *end flashback* She fought back the tears in her eyes quite well, for her heart was broken into tiny, beating, bleeding little pieces. |

Furidan made his way back to his room. Hoever, he stopped and looked back. "I think an explanation for this is in order. I have no idea what this war is about, and want to know why the blasted thing is happening." However no one was around when he spoke. Must be going crazy. Furidan thought to himself. Talking to myself, thinking there's people there. I shouldn't be like this. Perhaps a good sleep will cure my mind. Furidan muttered something in Dwarvish before closing the door to his room. |

Outside the inn, Axis leaned against the wall, propping his spear up next to him. Of course Deph hadn't come here. He probably had been drunk at the time... or else, he was stupid for even believing there was a chance of it being her. But still, he felt crushed. He also felt a slight pang of regret for continually referring to Deph as this "odd-looking girl". All right, so Deph WAS odd-looking in a sense. While the rest of the Reyfer household had pale, silvery hair, hers had been dark and often untidy. She had also been shorter than average, compared to Axis, who was almost as tall as his 24-year-old brother before Arbalen's untimely death. And her eyes... they seemed to be too big for her eye sockets to hold, although Axis privately thought this was just a consequence of her reading all the time. Axis shook his head. Why was he starting to refer to her in the past tense? She wasn't dead. She couldn't be. He remembered the summer, long before the war and everything, when she sat with him and Arbalen, joking about their futures. You shouldn't worry 'bout me when I grow up, bros, she'd laughed. Maybe I can't aim a bow at a target a foot away, maybe I can't even lift a sword, but I'm thinkin' that anyone who's gonna screw with Deph is gonna have another think comin'! Unless you find a body, then, there's nothin' you can do about that... And Axis had sworn he saw a flash of red as she said this, in the depths of her grey eyes. That was the thing, though... There had been no body. If I ever find her, Axis thought, I'm going to apologise. For... for calling her weird-looking. For thinking she was dead, when there was no evidence. For Arbalen, and for the war. For everything. If I ever find h- His musings were interrupted by a bullet hitting the nearby pavement and embedding itself in the ground worryingly close to the wall of the "NN". He blinked and raised his lance instinctively, but no people appeared, and no more bullets came. Axis sighed. The sun was starting to set, casting an orange glow on the forsaken street, making it seem almost as if was on fire. It was getting late. If he stayed out here, by the looks of things, he wouldn't be finding Deph. Ever. He walked back inside the "NN", ignoring the flimsy door as it creaked mournfully in the wind. |

Sieg struggled to keep his eyes open, as rain beat his head down. He had left to join the army, delusions of grandeur running rampant in his head. He had returned to his home to find it had become next to nothing. No family waiting for him, no brothers or sisters beside him, he was alone. All he had were the meager abilities he had learned in his life, and what were those good for? Nothing but killing... That's all I'm good for. He shook his head and watched the path ahead. Nothing moved, the mud had taken the look of a very dark soup. A tree, already dead, swayed in the wind to it's own beat. The nights sky was as black as he could imagine. This is not home... And he slowly felt himself drift into a dreamless sleep. The next morning, the sun rose on freshly dug graves of black, caked mud. Sieg staggered slowly into the 'NN', coughing slightly as the re-hinged door fell again. He greeted Meg with a gruff "Hello," and walked down a row of resting soldiers, whose sheets had been stained with blood. He coughed again. Must've been the rain... He passed a square-jawed man, a few years older than him, on his way to the kitchen. Ruan began to stir, the standing water and graves being overlooked, as the 'NN' became the center of attention. |

"You've always been the favourite Furidan. You can't deny that" said a dwarf to two others. "You're just jealous, admit that" the dwarf called Furidan replied. "Brann does have a point. Think about it. You were chosen to lead the dwarves, you were the only paladin in our family, and you were said to be the one of the best soldiers in the First War." "I was just lucky, that's all. Now can we drop it?" Furidan said angrily. "What's got you so worked up" the other dwarf asked. "The Centuars. They've declared war again, Frann" Furidan said. "Yes, but we shall defeat them. They never came close to Mountainridge in the First War. And we have you as king" Frann said. "That's what I'm worried about. I've heard that they are stronger this time, with hidden assetts. What if they manage to defeat our forces and come to Mountainridge? Asthe king, it is my duty to protect the people" Furidan said. "Our forces have improved since the last war. You're forgetting that I'm the leader of the Dwarven Army" Brann said. "Right. It's just that something is troubling me. I can't quite figure out what, almost as if a shadow has come to these lands" Furidan pondered. Before either dwarf could respond, another came to the three and called for Brann. "The war is beginning. Brann, we need you to lead the troops into battle" he called as he ran off. "I must be going. Farewell, my borthers" Frann said. "Farewell, and good luck" Frann said. However, Furidan was nowhere to be found. Furidan was wondering the wilderness, searching for something. He saw a raven calling out for him, but he could not make it to him. There was something else in the wilderness as well. Furidan then awoke in the inn in Raun with a gasp. "What the hell was that?" He asked in himself. Shaking his head, Furidan slowly made his way down the stairs. He slowly made himself something to eat. He looked disturbed, but he did not want to discuss what he had just saw. |

Axis had a dream. He dreamed that he was outside a building in a busy city, minding his own business. The door of the building opened of their own accord, and a familiar face ran inside as if being chased by something. Short girl, dark hair... Deph!... In his dream, he followed her into the building, pushing the crowds of people aside. The doors shut behind him, blocking out almost all light. As his eyes adjusted, he noticed he was in a long hallway, just in time to see his sister disappear through the barely-visible door at the far end. He ran. After what seemed like an age, he stopped. The door still seemed as far away as ever. He turned around; the doors through which he'd entered were still right behind him. He tried kicking at them, but they refused to move. A window suddenly appeared above his head, letting in a few rays of sunlight. A piece of paper also fluttered down. He picked it up. It looked like some kind of poster. A single word was scrawled on the blank side, in red ink. FoRgEt And then he woke up. Eventually, Axis made his way downstairs. He found an empty table and sat down in silence. After a while, he saw the pale-faced gunner from the day before run into the "NN", looking more than slightly frustrated. Axis walked up to the man and tapped him on the shoulder "So, we meet again," he said. "Tell me - you said you were the head of some militia here, yes? I hear you're not doing so well. Down to about ten still in action, right?" He tilted his hat again and smiled faintly. "I prefer the spear and the sword, but I'm not too bad with the bow either - at least, I wouldn't fall off a rooftop while I was aiming," he continued. "How about it? I wouldn't even charge you. At first, anyway." He winked as he said this. |

Sieg gave a slightly annoyed cough. "I didn't fall, I jumped." He said, then adding, "Though we could use your help..." He eyed the mercenary suspiciously then reached for the nearest plate. Upon it was a yellow-brown substance that the innkeep had scraped off a blackened frying pan. It could have very well been eggs, it could have equally well have been lying in a hole for three months. Sieg ate it indifferently, looking at the shaky few who were still standing. He waved weakly at the stout, bearded man as he came down the stairs of the 'NN', muttering about something or other. Ammo pouches were being carefully dried by the heat of a fire, of course, in a small shack a good ways from the 'NN', just to be safe. |
