Well to me tacky is more things like Cascada, sort of as a synonym for cheap or slutty or something. Getter is kind of a modern pop indie type song with a great costume and staging, not cheap or slutty to me, even the lyrics are good :P |

cheap and slutty is cheap and slutty. eurovision is cheap so using that against a song in eurovision just doesn't fly with me. (three minute songs ..come on...that's a recipe for cheapness) whether a song meets some arbitrary standard set by an individual of cheapness is irrelevant to enjoyment of the song and just an attempt to lessen it which comes across lame to me. it's basically an esc fan way of bashing a song you don't want to do well by choosing some lazy argument like "it's cheap". and other than her boustiere (did i spell that right?) there's nothing slutty about it. this isn't kalomira shoving her breasts with her hands. let's not be prudish here for crying out loud. ani lorak on all fours certainly didn't meet your disapproval. there's nothing wrong with some hip action and female body motion. slutty is reserved for nastiness like eleftherias panty shot in her nf. though really that's the camera man's and producers perviness.. and again that's a cheap argument against a a song because any woman being a little risque can be called slutty. that doesn't define tacky. tacky is tacky. like men dressing up like women. that's tacky. it looks ridiculous. and that's basically how i define tacky...ridiculous looking and somewhat fake and a bit ludicrous. the actual definition has more to do with looking gawdy and showing bad taste. and admittedly cascada's outfit is tacky and i hope she changes it. slutty can be done without tackiness , the two don't necessarily go together. ok i see i'll have to explain why i found getter tacky. loony tunes stage show ( i expected porky pig to end the act with a ..that's all folks). the whole let's run into the crowd like a bunch of goofy teenagers. (yay party time ..look at us woo hoo aren't we hipster)the entire thing came across more like something i'd expect from 14 year olds at the jesc. a venue i'd have more appreciation for the act and the age of such show. therefore it came across tacky and overly purply as well xD basically the act which could have been a bit i dunno mystical if done right with that song turned into a cartoon kiddie pop act and made getter look like she was still chasing puppy dog crushes in high school. and that song is pop . not indie (though indie is a terribly outdated undefined word which has no value anymore in defining a genre). it's basically a lazy word people use to define music that doesn't fit into a classic genre. pop means popular an that kind of indie music is today's pop music. one could instead expand pop to be define it further indie-pop for example. bubble-gum pop, dance pop, eurovision ethno pop, pop rock etc etc. and then define indie further by ruling out all those poppy songs people call indie. |

Well I don't agree for myself at any rate, there's some cheap songs I like, but when I don't find a song catchy and I just find it cheap then it completely falls flat with me. That is like Cascada, Feminem, Montenegro 2009 etc I didn't mind it with Ani or Kalomoira indeed, I think it has to do with the girl here, very subjective. Like No Angels looked SO gross to me I felt I'd get an STD just looking at them. But Ani's and Kalomoira's just suited xD If they have a nice dress and good song then sluttiness is fine, it totally suits ethno pop but it doesn't suit bland pop? xD I see tacky can mean other things then, like Denmark 2006 or whatever DQ was. To me I hated how Getter made her stage more cartoonish but the bright colours and costumes really appealed to me, I didn't find them gaudy or tacky or trashy or anything, I found them what hipsters were wearing at that time, just in a brighter colour xD Rockefeller Street isn't pure pop aka bubblegum pop or brit pop or whatever, it has a more mysterious vibe xD |

which just shows that cheap isn't a valid criteria and is exactly what i said :P and again there is nothing overtly sexy about cascada. so i don't get that at all. how is her dancing sexy. i don't even think she's trying to do anything other than a normal average dance move. and yes tacky is more like DQ or Skank or whatever that British song was you like with it's cheap immature sexual innuendoes.. and--getter is indie pop. mysterious my butt. compared to sunflowers and moonwalk this was sven being poppy and using a girl with a katy perry vibe to do it. and that could be one of the reasons i don't like it. because moonwalk is an indie masterpiece compared to this!! |

What is moonwalk? I said indie pop but you said no so I couldn't think of another word xD I never said Cascada was sexy! Or had a sexy vibe. Cascada jus has a cheap/trashy vibe. But the main thing is an entry has to work for me somehow, song, act whatever. 100% subjective. And yeah Germany doesn't :P |

Well I agree that I hoped that ESC would evolve after Loreen and that at the same time ESC equals tackiness, but one can always hope xD Of course it's a bit hypocrite to complain about Germany, San Marino, Finland etc. being tacky while at the same time you're an ESC fan (and you have Martin Rolinski's MF entry on your iPod). Well what annoys me most about Finland is that I just don't like the song, I mean the lyrics are fun and stuff but gosh that chorus is SO annoying, I have a big thing against choruses with little to no melody(Aphrodisiac, Dalita's song etc.), my intentions were good when listening to the song again yesterday but it's actually worse than I remembered xD Plus this defines the Finnish entry: "being poppy and using a girl with a katy perry vibe" :P But Katy Perry has better songwriters xD And Cascada is just 'club' music made for sexually unexperienced 14 year olds who want to get experience in their high school discos, but perhaps that has to do with the fact that I was about 14 when Cascada had their biggest (and pretty much only) hit and that's the only time I went to those lame high school discos and was like NEVER AGAIN. I don't have a thing against Cascada but seriously their big hit would've been dated in 2013 but it would've been an awesome entry, but this song is just as dated but far from being awesome xD That's why I like the ballads more this year, because ballads have more of a tendency to be timeless since pop songs are by definition radio songs meaning by definition there's a lot of development, most pop artists have ballads on their albums but they often sound like they could've been recorded in any year, because you can't go full synthesizer and computer beat on them :P |

@ Dara well saying it has a cheap trashy vibe just comes across as an esc fan putting a song down they don't like because i'm sure there is cheap/trashy esc songs you like (and i can think of quite a few greek ones in particular) the simplicity of the statement that you simply don't like it is closer to the truth because i have no reason for liking it other than the fact i like it xD this is the joy of my oblivious dumb blonde existence :P moonwalk was sven's eurolaul entry in 2005 with Laura. i think "Destiny" would be more your style ( i think that was sven?) Sunflowers is symbolically epic. ------------------------------------- @ marjo i understand the dated statement but i consider eurovision to be always behind anyways so i don't mind that. i just wish it wouldn't stagnate and roll along with no change at all like it's doing this year. escpecially the really cheesy ballads. i think i'm just dissapointed in the lack of good power ballads which are my preferred ballad genre. i don't like other music by cascada except for "Ready for Love" and didn't enjoy their music before this entry. standard esc pop is never a bad thing for me. it just boils down to enjoyability or not in the particular song. but i do like dance music. Krista totally gives me a katy perry vibe which kind of makes me like it more because i hate katy perry so seeing a bubble gum pop perryish song that i like is kind of personally intriguing for me. plus the marry me theme fits my universe at this time. ( I haven't made it broad public news yet but I'm getting married in june) plus it's just plain fun and sometimes that's all i want out of a song.i can have deep profound songs and mindless fun songs simultaneously. my personal dichotomy xD |
