Really pleased for Rob Kirk and everyone involved. I did an article on it in Ilkeston Life a while back and he walked me round the site while telling me of the obstacles still to be overcome.

The pitch in the photograph looks like the old Miners Welfare pitch behind the Boweswell Estate. If it is? it is the same pitch that the team my father ran in the 70s Ilkeston Catholics played on. The pitch looked like it does now but we spent the whole summer cutting the grass and clearing the rubbish off it. There were no changing rooms so they changed at the side of the pitch in cars. We were told that when the Coal Board built the pitch they spent thousands on drainage. They only played one season on it before moving to play on the Peewit pitch next to Manor Floods. Ironically most of my Dads Sunday side played for Stanton on a Saturday. Good days!
