I created this thread to discuss a conversation held recently on the IDU RMB. It is; the Olympics. Should the IDU have them. Who should host them. Since Legionas first suggested it, I deem Legionas, the Olympic Committee Chairman. I don't no what that entails but it only seems fitting. Post your Comments or Ideas here.

If we are to be serious about the IDU olympics we need to pick a time frame between olympics, standards for stadiums, the different sports and the host nation code of conduct

I suggest we have another vote for who should host the first IDU olympics.

And since hosting the olympics is a very important event and that many nations would love to host such a huge event I hope there will be very fierce but healthy competition

OOC, how would the results be determined? Would the host be using one of the 'scorinator' programmes that have been developed by various users of the 'NS Sports' forum?

I think using a scorinator, as used in NS Sports, would be the best method.

I did some thorough digging up (5 minutes of randomly checking the forum) and I found that on 2014 there was also another proposal for an IDU olympics and I think that we should continue from there

I have noticed that no one has done anything with the Olympics for a couple of months, so i propose i become the Official IDU Olympics Commissioner. I suggest that we have multiple sports, but it would get very hectic if we did them all at the same time, so we could do each sport one after another. you could sign up for all sports or none of them at all. right now, i have a list of about 15 or so sports that we could do. obviously some would be more popular so i could eliminate the least popular so we would only have 5 to start out with since we are all new to this.

Soccer (football)
American Football
Military simulation (Airsoft ish)
Baseball
Basketball
Tennis
Hockey
Golf
Track and Field (About 10 sports)
Gymnastics (about 5 sports)
Swimming (also about 5 sports)

It would use the role play style for the world cup the world has.
if you have any questions please telegram me.

I participated in the NationStates 13th Winter Olympics back in February, which took place back while the Pyeongchang Olympics were going on in real life. The registration and discussion thread was here:
https://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=432518
which you can take a look at to see how registration worked. There were a great number of sports, and every nation would submit a roster with the names of their athletes in each event, and the corresponding skill level of the athlete, ranked from 1 to 100. Every nation's delegation needed to average to 50. To prevent min-maxing, a bonus was given to nations which avoided it, based on the standard deviation of the nation's athletes' scores. To improve their athletes' chances, players could write roleplay pieces about the Olympics, with their athletes receiving bonuses based on roleplay contributions from that day, the last three days, and the total for the entire Olympics. This system was intended to avoid penalizing players who were only able to post long yet infrequent roleplays. The host of the Olympics plugged the scores (including the athletes' skill scores, the bonus for avoiding min-maxing, and the roleplay bonuses) into a scorinator, a set of computer programs which generate random scores. Those scores were posted in the results thread, seen here:
https://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=436011

While I know that we won't do anything of that scale, you should probably take a look at how the Olympics were conducted. You should also note how they conducted team vs. ndividual sports, and the sports scoring that they used. I also wrote an in-character factbook about Laeralian athletes at the Olympics which you may want to read:
