I have seen that many of users need a little brushing up on their sig skills, so ill help em out by creating a tutorial. Q) What exactly is GIMP? A) GIMP is basically a paint program that can be used to make banners, signatures (sigs), animations, and icons(avatars) Q) Is GIMP free and where can i find it? A) GIMP is completey free, no 30 day trials or anything. To download GIMP if you have Windows go here: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html You’ll need to download both the GTK+ 2 for Windows, as well as the Gimp program (whichever version is compatible with your computer) You must download GTK+ 2 runtime before downloading Gimp or it will not run properly in many cases! If your using a Mac go here: http://gimp-app.sourceforge.net/ Now download the Gimp version that your computer can handle, AND make sure to download the X11 windows program. You need it to run the program [Gimp]. Q) When downloading GIMP, the site asks me to choose a mirror. A) Basically mirrors are where the main servers are. Choose a mirror that is relatively close to where you live. If that mirror does not work, then try another one. |

Samigi's Basic Sig Guide *NOTE* NEVER RESIZE YOUR PICTURES, OR THEY WILL GET PIXELATED(BLURRY) Before you do anything decide wat you want your sig to be about. Then start looking for renders(pics). A few good sites for pics are www.ign.com, www.nintendo.com, www.planetrenders.net, and the most obvious is Google :P. For this guide use a render with a white background Open up GIMP and go to file>new.A new window shuld open up, to get my sig use 577 width x 177 height. You can choose a smaller size sig if you want. This is the pic that we will be using today: ![]() Copy and paste the image into GIMP. Using the cross-like arrow button to move the render to where u want to put it. If you want to move to the flip the image horizontally, vertically, or any other way open up Windows Paint or Mac's Paint and paste the image there. At the top click on Image, and flip/rotate. Now choose any of the options there. Once you've rotated the image copy and paste it into GIMP. Now double click the magic wand button thats next to the loop button. A window should open up with many options, ignore them except for threashold and feathering. Set the number to 18.0. Click on feathering and do the same thing. Go to the top where it says layers. Scroll down to colors, then go to colorize. A window shuld a appear that says colorize. Mess with the numbers untill u get a color u like, but put the saturation to 100! Now go to the top to Filters, then renders, then nature, then flame. A window that says Flame shuld appear. Click on edit, and choose the style of flames that you want and click ok when u have a style. Go to color map, and choose the sig. It will turn the flames into the colors of the sig. Cool huh? Now for the text. Click on the T and choose some font. Type in w/e u want, and paste it wherever u want. To move it click on the cross-like arrow button. This is tricky. Move the mouse over the text, wait untill the cross appears and not the hand, or the whole sig will move. When ur done with the text, save it as PNG. Images look better this way. Click export, when the next window opens, then okay. All thats left now is to upload the image to the internet. Voila! Heres your sig:

Samigi's Guide to Editing Do you have a really cool picture but cant use it because it doesnt have a white background? Dont fret, thats why i made this guide. The pic we will be editing today is this one right here: ![]() Open up GIMP and create three new images any size you want. I like 577X177. Paste the picture in one of those images. Now double click on the magic wand tool. Look at the mode: The first one should be selected, but change it to the second one. Click on antialiasing. Make sure your feathering is off, and the threshold is at 18.0. Now click on the background of the pic, making sure you dont select any inside part of Samus. Once you click on everything you could, go to select>all. Then go to select>invert. Now once thats done, copy and paste into one of the other images. Most of the background should be gone. Now save it. Open it up using paint, and go to View>Zoom>Custom and choose 800%. Now go to View>Zoom>Show grid, then Show Thumbnail. Using the pencil and on white, delete the rest of the background pixel by pixel. The finished product should look this: ![]() Once thats done find the background you'd like to paste it onto, and paste into the last image. Delete the pics on the other two images, and paste the finished Samus into them. Now click on the magic wand tool, and select all the white space. Go to Select>All then Invert. Copy and paste it into the sig with the background. Keep doing this with all the pics that you want to add. Once all the images are edited, your sig should look this.

Samigi's Advanced Sig Making *Note Some Editing Skills Will Be Used Here* Have pics that have way to much white space, so that they dont all fit onto one sig? Well thats wat this guide is about. We will be making this sig today: ![]() First of all. make sure that all of the images background's are all one color. If not, you'll have to edit them. (Look at Editing Guide). If not, you can continue. The maximum amount of pics that a sig can hold is about 3. So open up 4 sigs, I use 577X177. On of the sigs, make the background adding flames if you want. Do not add text just yet. Now paste each one of the images on each of the blank sigs. One by one go to Select>All>Invert, then Copy and paste each one of the images into the sig with the background. Once all the pics are in, add text if needed. Your finished product should look the sig up there^^^^^^^ |
