This tutorial was taken from the GoG forums, and I have not changed it to say your clans name. We will let you have access to our Ventrilo for as long as you need, hope it comes in handy :) Ventrilo is a free program which GoG uses to communicate and grow as a clan better. It provides microphone support and Text-To-Speech, which means anyone, even those without microphones, can use it just as well as anyone with a mic. The program provides very little lag, in which most people running on a Windows XP would not be able to even notice it. STEP ONE - Downloading the program Go to http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php and scroll down until you see this. Posted Image Click download and it should bring you to another screen where you will scroll down and click "I Agree". This should bring up the "save?" window. Save the file somewhere in your computer where you would know where to find it. Preferably in "My Documents" or such as that. There is no worry about this program giving you keyloggers as it is a very official and commonly used program throughout the world. After you've finished downloading the setup file (shouldn't take long, the program is TINY), open it and follow the setup. For those who are unsure how to do that, all you have to do is click next. You should also save a link to it on your desktop. Once you have the program installed, You must do some setting up before you join the server, as It won't let you without a name (obviously). Open Ventrilo, or click "Click here to Connect directly to the Ventrilo Server" to open it, and you should get this screen (except yours won't have a user name): Posted Image Click on the arrow thing shown there and you'll get this. Click New and type in your RUNESCAPE screen name. It's difficult to understand who is who when people join Ventrilo for their first time under their real name or such. It's okay for some people, whom we know better by their first name. After this, go back and click the arrow just below the one you did before and it should bring up this screen. Posted Image First thing you do is click "New" Type in Guardians of Guthix and make the hostname and port number the same as in the picture (I will keep it updated for when we switch servers and such. This is the current server). Do not enter a password until you get on the server where we will give you one and nobody will be able to take your name. Remember the password box. After that click Okay, and click on Setup. When you open setup it should look a bit like this (May be different since the Ventrilo upgrade): Posted Image 1. As soon as you go into setup this should be the first thing you do. Make sure all of the boxes are checked exactly like I have them. 2. This is for people who will be using a mic. Click the hotkey box and set the key to one which is easy to get to and won't mess up things that you might do while talking. I do not suggest using either of the Ctrl keys as it can mess you up a lot and does for me, but I am used to it. The shift keys may be a better choice. 3. Avoid this until you get on to the server and are talking to us. We'll help you with this as for everyone it can be different. Once you are done with all of this, click "OK" and close the program. Then you should be good to click "Click here to join the Ventrilo Server". After that first time you click it on the site you do not need to anymore as every time you open Ventrilo it should be set to join that server when you click connect anyway. Anyone who is getting this message when you try to connect to the server:
Just empty the password box and ask an admin online to change your password, or ask any quadrumvir or me in PM to change it and what you want it changed to. |
