Gamer Nexus can be a great place to interact with other people. Here, you can talk about Any type of game.

However, before you enter the forums, you should read over the rules. These rules are in place to keep the message board an organised and enjoyable place to be. Everyone visiting the forums has a right to feel welcome and respected, after all. The rules may be a little long, but trust us - you'll be thankful you read them.

Before you can view the forums and post, you will also need to register. This is completely free, and there are no obligations. Note that making multiple accounts is not allowed.

The Strike System

At Gamer Nexus, strikes (also called warnings) will be given for breaking rules, and at times for cases where it is necessary to punish someone, despite them not breaking any specific rules. After a member has received three strikes, they will be banned from the forums; that is, they may no longer post.

Forum Staff

The forum staff is a group of members who are dedicated to running the forums. There are three types of staff: administrators, super moderators, and moderators. Administrators are responsible for maintaining the forums; super moderators are responsible for keeping order in all forums; moderators are responsible for a specific forum, or group of forums. All staff should be treated with respect, as they give their time and effort to help the community, without pay or other benefit.

Spam and Flaming

Spamming is almost never permitted on the forums. Spam includes: posts that do not contribute to a discussion, are off-topic, or do not have any purpose; posting for the sole purpose of increasing post count, often referred to as "postwhoring"; threads that do not have much point, such as word games. Spam, when seen, will most often be deleted, but excessive spamming may be dealt with more severely.

Flaming is insulting other members in a personal manner. Heated arguments are allowed most of the time, but outright bashing and unprovoked attacks will not go without punishment. We're a community, so everyone needs to be civil to each other.

Language

Because the forums are open to people of all ages, bad language should be kept to a minimum. Effort should also be put into your grammar and spelling, as it makes your posts a lot easier to read. Typing in "l337" or any other such "Internet languages" is not allowed, as it is hard to read, and can get very annoying, very fast. Even running a spell check or going over a message before posting it can go a long way in making your posts better. Posts that are judged to have been made with little consideration for the English language will be deleted.

Restricted Forums

The Staff forums are accessible to all staff. This is like the "main office" of the staff, where certain topics are discussed by the staff, usually concerning the future of the forums. Access, of course, is prohibited to anyone but staff.

The Clan forums are for the three clans (Farore, Din, and Nayru). The clans are special groups that many members choose to join. The clans are basically "clubs" that often have their own rules and structures. You can only be in one clan, and a test is required to join. For more information on clans, please visit The Temple of Light and Dark.

Once you have been accepted into a clan, you will automatically be granted access to the Role-Playing forums, where you may participate in one of several role-playing games. Intelligence and good writing skills are a requirement for this section of the forums.

Feedback, Suggestions and Questions

If you wish to comment on Gamer Nexus main forums, you may post in the Feedback, Suggestions and Questions section using constructive criticism and polite language. You may also send a private message or e-mail to one of the forum administrators. In addition, there are many questions that are asked quite frequently. To avoid asking a question that may have already been answered, make use of the search function, or read the Newbie's Guide to the Universe, as there's a good chance any questions you have, have already been answered elsewhere.

Topics and Posts

Staying on topic is a good idea, so you don't want to post a thread in the wrong section (a Zelda thread in the Entertainment section, for instance), or start posting about something that has nothing to do with the current topic of discussion.

Posting in old threads generally isn't allowed. A good rule to go by is this: if something's older than a month or so, it's not a good idea to post in. Rather, it's almost always better to just make a new thread on a subject if there hasn't been one recently, rather than dragging one back from the grave.

Avatars, Signatures and Ranks

Avatars are pictures that sit next to your posts, and can have a maximum size of 140x100 pixels, and 30 kilobytes (KB). Most images are allowed, but remember, because the forums are for all ages, you don't want to post anything offensive or inappropriate.

Signatures, on the other hand, are fields that automatically appear below every post that you make, which can contain a little bit of text, an image, a link to a web site, and things like that. Again, keep things work-safe. If you use an image in your signature, keep it to a maximum of 400x150 pixels, and keep in mind that some people are on slower Internet connections, so you shouldn't use huge, high-quality, animated images. Please note that the size limit for all signatures is 100 kilobytes. In terms of text, if you have a large signature image (near the 400x150 limit) then you should keep the amount of text between three or four lines. If you have a small image (400x40 and down) or no image, then more text is fine, but should not exceed seven or so lines.

There are also different user titles (otherwise known as ranks) that appear below your name on posts, and in your profile. Once you have been a member for 4 months, you can set your own rank to whatever you want in your user profile. As with everything else, keep your rank clean; no swearing or otherwise offensive things should be in there.

Serious Discussion

There is one section of the forums called Serious Discussion. This forum is for discussing topics that are a little more mature than others, such as politics, and (in limited amounts), religion. It is best to use your brain in here - stupid posts won't be tolerated, and flaming is not allowed under any circumstances. If anything, try to use common sense and remain open-minded. Those who are ignorant of others won't do well here.

Final Notes

Advertising outside of the Advertising forum is not allowed. If you want to show off your web site, that's great, but you can do it in the forum section instead of plugging it in every post you make. Putting a link to your web site in your signature is also allowed. In addition, advertising through the private messaging system is forbidden. Nobody likes spam mail, and if you are caught sending ads through private messages, you will be severely punished.

Keep everything on the forums legal. Links to web sites with ROMs, illegal mp3 downloads, pornography, extreme violence, or anything else considered "indecent" shouldn't be posted. If you're in doubt as to posting something, then by all means feel free to ask about it.

Lastly, just use common sense, and have fun! The forums are a great place to talk, but don't go abusing them. It's a privilege to use the forums, and this privilege can be taken away. Just use intelligence when posting, and you should be fine. There are rules here, but the community is forgiving, so don't worry if you make a few mistakes here and there, especially when starting out.

With that, the forum staff thanks you for reading over the rules. Keep them in mind, and you will surely enjoy your stay in the forums, and improve that of other members. Now, get to posting!
