Hello friends, How are you? Today is St George's Day, England's patron saint. He is also the patron saint of other countries too, such as Portugual, Bulgaria and Bosnia. We aren't really celebrating that much, which is a shame but we have had an interesting assembly all about him. What have you been up to? We have been trying to do beadwork in our Afritwin club. We are finding it really hard and fiddly. Mrs Daniels and Mrs Eyden are really looking forward to visiting your school in June. Bye for now, from the afritwin club Natasha, Musab, Tamara, Emma, Claire, Millie, Zahra, Mrs Bloor, Mrs Eyden and Miss Lane : ) |

Hello Friends! We were very excited to read your messages and to find out what you were doing in school. At our school we now have a labyrinth outside at the front of the school. It is a great honour to be the first Primary school in our area to have one! A labyrinth is a bit like a maze, but there are no dead ends. It is a bit like a never-ending spiral, but eventually you get to the centre. If you have a problem, you can use the labyrinth to help you work it out. You think about your problem as you walk towards the centre. When you get to the centre, you can take a few moments to relax and release your problem, then as you walk back out, your problem seems less worrying. All the classes in our school have had a go at walking the labyrinth. We all felt very peaceful during the walk and it made our worries seem less. Perhaps your teachers would like to try it when they come over? We don't really do oral tests that much here, but we sometimes have class debates or discussions. We also learn about lots of other cultures and religions and we are trying to get an International Schools award this year. In the Afritwin Club, we are trying our best to do some African beadwork. It is really tricky - how do you do it? You are very, very clever!!!!! If you have any diagrams which would help us, please send them as soon as possible!! From all your friends at Woodheys. Clare and Emma |

Hi Everyone! Mother's Day in the UK is on the 2nd of March. It is called 'Mothering Sunday' because in the olden days, servants used to be allowed home for half a day to visit their mothers! As for tests, we have them too! (All the time, it seems to us!) We have SATS (Standard Attainment Tests) in Year 6 and they are going on this week actually. The members of our Afritwin Club are all in Year 5 (9 or 10 years old), so instead of tests, we are off to Robinwood tomorrow, which is an Activity Centre, about an hour's drive from Sale. We are all looking forward to it because there are lots of things to do there. For example, stream walking, bouldering, abseiling, raft building, archery and canoeing. And - there's a Piranha Pool!!! ( We don't think they are real, but you never know....!!!!) We'll let you know next time! For once, the weather is brill, here! Very warm and sunny and we all feel very cheerful. There was a wasp in our classroom yesterday - a sure sign of summer. Mr Furness, our teacher, was more bothered about saving the wasp than us getting stung! Finally, it found its way out of the window... Oh dear - all our beads have just rolled all over the floor and the bell is about to go for afternoon lessons! We'd better go now. Look forward to hearing from you all again soon. Just one more Afritwin Club meeting before Mrs Eyden and Mrs Daniels go to South Africa to meet you all in person....! Love from Emma, Millie, Tamara and Clare xx |

Hi Afritwin friends at Vumokuhle and Gordon Road School, It was lovely to hear from the teachers from Vumokuhle. Mrs Daniels and Mrs Eyden can't wait to visit both schools. We had a BRILLIANT time at the Robin Wood Activity Centre. Our favourite activities were archery, the pirranha pool, canoeing and the night line. The weather stayed very sunny for us so we could really enjoy all of the activities. We went to bed at 10pm and had to get up at 6:30am so we were all pretty tired out by Friday. We have recently had a hedge labyrinth planted in school and it is the grand opening this Friday. We have invited leaders from different faiths to come to walk the labyrinth. Every child in the school has written a peace prayer which we will hang from the large cherry blossom in the garden. We will sing peace hymns and celebrating the diversity in our school. We will send some photos. We break up for half term on Friday and will be returning to school on Monday 9th June. We look forward to chatting to you then...alongside Mrs Daniels and Mrs Eyden!!! Bye for now, The Afritwin group. |
