It looks like Mangafox no longer has HotD on its list. Is there a primary site that you post the scanlations onto?

It was licensed so no.

Also if you use online reader sites you're a potato.

Use http://mangaupdates.com to track scanlators directly instead of being a potato.

Awesome, thanks. My days of being a potato are now behind me.

Well to be fair, he was specifically asking about HotD, which we don't host anymore.

I plan to buy the series when (if) it gets translated anyway, since I really like it.

First volume's coming out in English in January.

Shit is freaking expensive though. $14 for pocket-size book. It's the same size as the Japanese version but it's twice as expensive.

Well, I'll be pretty much dirt-poor until summer anyway, so hopefully the price will go down.

And this is why I will never support the English manga companies. Money grubbing potatos.

Are there any manga companies that publish series originally written in English? Are there series that go the opposite direction overseas to get translated? I'm curious because there aren't any that I can think of, but you guys seem pretty knowledgeable on the subject.

By "series written in English" I'm assuming you mean OEL (original English language) manga. Yes, there are, but 99.9% of OEL manga are awful and made by people who don't know how to write or draw.

I'm not sure there are too many western comics that are translated into Japanese. I mean I know there are definitely some (a Japanese magazine I read is serializing a translation of a French series, don't remember the title) but the people who read Japanese manga, IE most of Japan, don't necessarily like the conventions other countries use in their comics. I've found, for example, that while Japanese series tend to be primarily pulp and have the action arranged kinetically, most American series feel like they're trying to be literature and have tons of text (a lot more than most Japanese series anyway) with drawings that could just as easily be stand-alone illustrations. Well admittedly, I've only really read Watchmen and Walking Dead, neither of which I got too into, but that's the impression I get.

There's Ducktales manga and stuff like that, though. Same art as in the west, but the page layouts are more Japanese.

That sucks. I was hoping maybe there would be some that weren't in the same style as graphic novels.

Well, you may like some European comics more. Personally I like what comes out of Europe a bit more than what comes out of North America. Give stuff that's run in Heavy Metal a go (a good deal of it is European).
