Just keep in mind that my laptop probably can't handle a lot more video memory usage(I haven't actually installed the game yet, I'm just making assumptions based on how San Andreas and Universe at War play). Basically, just gameplay enhancement mods. |

If memory usage is a problem, you'll probably want to take a look at some mods that make the game run more efficiently... I can't remember what they were called, though, so >_> I know there are some out there, though. |

There is this mod called Oldblivion, which makes older cards able to run the game. If you desperately need a performance boost, you might want to try it. |

I installed bugfix mods and the low poly grass, it seems to run pretty well. Actually, it seems downgrading to Vista video drivers while on Windows 7 makes games much more playable than they ever were on Vista. I can actually play games on a laptop with Intel integrated video memory, which surprises the hell out of me. |

I would recommend playing Morrowind or Daggerfall instead. But if you must play the pile of dumbed down DURR ACTION RPG that is Oblivion, do go with Jeff's suggested OOO and new UI's. I'll also toss out my recommendation for Kobu's Character Advancement System, since it makes the awful leveling system actually pretty awesome. It's been a long time since I've played Oblivion so I don't remember other stuff I used, and while OOO fixes many of the game's problems, it has deeper problems that really can't be modded out (extreme bias in journal entries and story progression towards "good" characters, no quests can be failed, there is virtually no long-time consequence for your actions, you can literally do everything in the game with a single character, etc.) |

Okay, think of what little patience I have as, oh, I don't know, your virginity. You always thought it would be there, until that night Junior Year when you were feeling a little down about yourself and your pal Kevin, who just wanted to be friends, well, he dropped by and he brought a copy of About Last Night and a four-pack of Bartels & James and woo hoo hoo, it was gone forever - just like my patience is now. ~ Dr. Perry Cox Who the hell... put bouillon cubes in the shower head!?! Huh? Hm, did you do it? Hm? Did you? If it happens again, I will wait in my S.U.V., blast me some speed-metal -- 5.1 surround sound, heavy on the bass -- and someone... will be getting... mowed... down. ~ Dr. Hooch | |

Oh, I feel it's worth mentioning that the modding scene for TESIII is getting a bit unbelievable (in a good way), and shows incredible promise for the foreseeable future. There are two projects well under way to reverse engineer and reimplement the game in an open source format (requires owning the actual game, so it's perfectly legal), and with mods like Graphics Extender and the Code Patch, old issues like view distance and limited map size have been eliminated. Surprisingly, advancements are also being made in things like adding unique music to dungeons (original Morrowind has the same music in towns, overworld, and dungeons) and in animations and combat, even without it being open source. Then of course there's the huge mainland Morrowind project which has had a couple maps released already, and a couple other similar projects inspired by it, including a mod to add Cyrodiil, the world you play in in TESIV, to TESIII. Unless TESIV modding picks up the pace (and frankly, it probably won't since the game is less mod-friendly thanks to everything being verbally spoken), TESIII's mods will soon make it, and probably TESV, completely obsolete. |

Actual physics (Utterly retarded physics though), more action-like combat system that might appeal to some, better special effects, slightly less buggy. That's about it, really. Oh, and better graphics, of course. |

Presumably, once Morrowind is open source, however, all of those advantages will be eliminated, since anyone will be free to implement such systems into Morrowind. Graphics Extender already makes you able to add lighting and effects similar to Oblivion's, so Oblivion isn't at a huge advantage there anymore. |

Saw this video, reminded me of this topic. Here's an idea of the things that can be done with Morrowind's graphics now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OvA8stLwco&feature=channel_page |

Err, romp around TESNEXUS and find anything you like? But pretty much OOO and Darnified UI. You could also get Deadly Reflex and FCOM, they seem to be the usually recommended mods. |
