Swap Magic is a dated exploit these days. You'll want to use the Free MC Boot, which has better capabilities and no dicking around with knife tricks. Of course, you'll need some way to install to the memory card, but any modern cheat device will work just as well as Swap Magic (and you can probably just return it to the store after you're done). http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/ |

Yeah, I already know about the Free MC Boot, but I have no means to install it on the memory card, sadly. That's why I'm asking for a Swap Magic ^__^ |

Shit looks cool. I think I'll use my SwapMagic to mod my memory card into that. SwapMagicing kind of wears down the laser anyway. |

Searching "Swap Magic" on eBay I found some Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, go figure... I'll try and google it, hopefully I'll get some results. |

Bump Thanks to Google, I found this one:
This is the right one, correct? It's only $ 25 so yeah. Do I need the swap card to upload the Free MC Boot to a memory card? Or is the CD all I need? |

Okay, I seriously need some help here. I want to play import (JP, US) games on my PAL PS2 but the FMCB tutorial says that the thingie is compatible with backup copies. So I dunno if it will work with non-copies for different regions. Also, I don't know whether to buy the Swap disks only or the complete set of disks + swap card. I'd rather get the full set but I don't know if it's worth the 10$ more. Any pieces of advice would be greatly appreciated, also sorry 'bout the quadruple post >_< |

I seriously, seriously recommend to get a modchip. There must be someone in the vicinity that agrees to mod consoles and provide the chip. It's a bit more expensive, but it's always active, works with downloaded and different region games, and will not die before your PS2 does. The only 'slight' issue is that you have to burn the downloaded games, which means buying DVDs and maybe failing once or twice, but the investment should pay off. Any MODBO chip for PS2 is fine. |

I personally recommend using a FMCB softmod, mostly because of the convenience of USB hard drive loading and the ability to pop out the memory card and game at a friend's place (pops up a lot at college), but modchips do have some edges. Basically: Modchip: + Generally reliable + leet-looking + Still works if you chuck your memory card in a fireplace or something + No dicking around with reburning legitimate games (this is actually the main reason) - Expensive - Soldering or even more expensive, take your pick. FMCB: + Does stuff other than run backups (SNES and Genesis emulation = <3 ) + Once somebody has one, you can use it to mod other PS2s trivially + HD Loader + Free if you have a way to boot the installer - Have to reburn legitimate imports to DVD or rip onto a hard drive - Still need a way to install it, so you're buying Swap Magic anyway |

Okay, I ordered the stuff. Except I didn't. I was about to, thenI learned I needed a stupid credit card, which I haven't, and the shop didn't support PayPal. So I'll have to wait 'till someone sells it on eBay or something along the line. (Fuck)² Everyone, sorry for the hassle and thanks for the help. Edited by Roope-Setä, May 1 2009, 06:40:40 PM.
