Nocturne a grindfest? Actually, it's one of the few games where leveling up doesn't change the odds of a fight. The key of the game is to create the right party and administer your skills; sometimes grinding is useful, especially when you need to gain a level in order to learn a particular skill, but skills can be learned by fusion anyway. How is SuikoTactics terrible? The only thing I don't like about the game is the "fetch item" kind of quest, where you need to get to the last level of a dungeon on a particular day to get a rare drop from some monster. Otherwise, it's pretty enjoyable -- lots of characters to recruit, permanent death for non-story characters, optional quests/skirmishes, not to mention it actually rewards you for going through SuikoIV. Suikoden V is, instead, one of the crappier games I have had the "pleasure" to get my hands on. - Nonexistant character depth/development for a big portion of the main cast, including the bad guys who are just...there. - The story starts in a good way, then it all goes downhill when you discover it's an endless repetition of the "strategist-says-you-obey" concept, effectively making this game an errand boy simulator. - Battles are frequent, unchallenging, overly long thanks to the enemies having tons of HP and overly boring thanks to the same enemies being unable to deal any serious damage. - Army battles are implemented so that you arrange your unit's abilities without knowing what they actually do (you have to start the battle to find out, leading to some resets/reloads since you can't rearrange skills in-battle) and you can't even decide where to deploy your units. Also, they're real time, which is a huge minus for me. As if that wasn't enough, the game is filled with minor annoyances that contribute to make the gameplay worse... For example, characters tend to join your party with a weapon level of 1, which is extremely annoying from midgame on since you'll need to spend inane amounts of money to allow them to deal some damage. Oh, and sometime 2-3 plot-relevant characters are forced in your party with their weapon at level 1 and no chance to exit the dungeon and upgrade them. Also, having to wait half a minute every time you enter/exit a room makes walking in your HQ a major pain. True, Suikoden IV is the worse of the series, but this one isn't too far behind. Anyway, since I mentioned SuikoTactics, I may as well suggest that you try Stella Deus. The plot is rather simple (and the voice acting is the worst one I've ever heard) but the battle mechanics are really interesting. |

Socom 2 is a third person shooter. Online was amazing fun, but I never gave single player a chance. |

Pretty much remove Warriors Orochi 2 from my suggestions since the PSP port has extra content and add Sengoku Basara 2 (and/or Heroes, they're both JP hack-and-slash with over-the-top historical Japanese figures). I can't think of much else as of now. Oh, and I found Atelier Iris 2 pretty enjoyable, so if you're into 2D RPGs I suggest you give it a try. EDIT How could I forget? If you like pew pew, Star Wars: Battlefront II is pretty enjoyable even without an Internet connection. In fact, I don't even like shooters and I still like that game. After 10,000 years of forgetting about this, I'm finally starting up again. But sadly, out of these, I've only bought so far; Atelier Iris 2 (got it for like 13 bucks, USD) Persona 3 FES (paid out the ass for this, 30 bucks, but it came with the art book and the soundtrack, factory sealed) I'm gonna buy Warriors Orochi 2 for the PSP when the price drops a little more; it's only been out for like 4 months in the US, so in a few more the price should drop to under 20 for a new copy. I'm also looking into the others now. I'll prolly buy Atelier Iris 1 as well. |

P3FES for 30 bucks and artbook + soundtrack?! FUCK, I HATE KOEI. Both PAL versions of P3 (normal and FES) came out with just the motherfucking disk. What the fuck. Edited by Roope-Setä, Dec 16 2009, 03:59:39 PM.

The artbook is pretty nice, all translated and hardcover. The soundtrack, I haven't listened to; I just popped it into my PC to see that it worked, since I got it on a very cold day and I was worried that it may have been damaged (KOEI didn't bother to pack the soundtrack in a case; just a paper envelope). Worked fine, so I took it out and slipped it into the artbook for protection since I lack spare cases. |

I was thinking of buying La Pucelle: Tactics, but it has a PSP port that just came out in Japan last month, so I'm going to hold off for a while and see if it'll be released in the US. I mean, may as well, right? New content and all that is always good. |

Get God of War. Word of warning though. Any difficulty setting higher than Mortal (easy) requires memorization of moves to progress very far If you can find it, Red Dead Revolver. Basically, Spaghetti Westerns in videogame form. A sequel is due sometime next year. Sonic Mega Collection, for all your Sega Easy needs! |
