The reason they bring this game as a 8bit style game, is because fans being the most acquainted to that style since the birth of Rockman more than 20 years ago. Since fans has been playing the first games in the series an unlimited amount of time, and portraying his classic style in both fan productions on the internet and T-shirt decorations, it felt just right to bring the revival of our classic Blue Bomber back in a style that's most familiar to everyone. Being able to test the limits of 8bit graphics on a current generation home console seemed like a fun idea to pick up on.

The music will be styled in 8bit fashion too, not to mention cutscenes in the same way they were experienced in the past Rockman games. Pure 8bit progressive goodness. Inafune is also mentioning that, with Rockman 2 being the most favorite title of all time, he hopes that Rockman 9 will surpass that, and hopefully be able to keep bringing Rockman back to his roots with more sequels in this fashion.

His final statement is this: "The moment you've been waiting for is here! We're not just giving you Rockman 9, we're giving you a new Famicom/NES game. This is a game that brings back the fun of the old games, and I hope you all enjoy it!"

And they decided to make it for the Wiiware service...

And going 8 bit is goddamn stupid. An 8 bit experience means it's probably gonna be filled with crappy controls, a few thousand bugs and generally bad gameplay. There are exceptions, but from the NES games I played, at least 90% of them sucked. Hard. Add to that the fact that 8 bit graphics are ugly.

Xeno, you're an idiot. It's not going to run on NES hardware, doesn't have the limitations of the system, and they've got twenty years more programming experience. There is no reason to assume those problems at all. Not that Rockman games tended to suffer from them.

Indeed I am an idiot. Does that make my opinions any less valid, though?

And not running on NES hardware doesn't mean they are going to use a different engine. They will probably port the same engine as the old NES games. No, it wasn't the old Rockman games that suffered from crappy design. In fact, I don't think I directly referred to the 8 bit Rockman games as buggy, lame and whatever else.

And I do have reason to assume it won't be that great, considering the phail that is Wiiware and VC, and most of the Wii's capabilities as well, as far as I am concerned. I'd completely hate Nintendo if it wasn't for the DS.

But meh, it's not like I really care about the classic Rockman, so I will leave people hyping it to hell and back for no reason.

You mean to say you think they'll program a NES game with a built in emulator? That'd be the most stupid thing they could do. And they even said they want to see what they can do with 8-bit on a modern system. They're obviously aiming to go far beyond what a NES was capable of, while keeping the style of the old games.

Nintendo is doing it with the VC, without the programming the game. The Wii uses a built in emulator for the VC .WADs. Though, yeah, pretty stupid idea.

They should put an option for the Classic Controller. They will probably just use the Wiimote's D-Pad for movement, 1 for Jump, 2 for Attack and + for menu, though.

The real question is, didn't the NES Megaman games start sucking somewhere around 4 or 5?

I don't know about "sucking," necessarily; I enjoyed them, anyways. Repetitive, yes, I guess they did become that.
