Why change anything at all when you don't need to? The people who have been unemployed for quite a while and the ones who are starving to death simply need to not be here.

It'll happen. Bet on it.

I do not know what point you were trying to make; the statement is too ambiguous.

You know about unemployment and people who are starving cause they can't get food? Add all those up. Those are how many people that shouldn't be on the Earth right now.

To be fair, the number of overweight people is now greater than the number of malnourished people.

Fen, ideally, no one would be hungry, and we wouldn't even need to work. Of course, that ideal is a long, long way off - but a world without need, not a world without much need, is ideal.

Well yes. But in order for that to happen, a few things would more than likely have to happen:
1.) Religion is abolished. Alternatively, only a single religion reigns supreme, and it is completely open to science.
2.) A mass genocide would have to happen. This is the only reasonable way to get everyone in the world to agree on the ways of life. It would probably tie in with circumstance one.
3.) Nearly everyone on the Earth would have to hold similar ideals, and work together without the boundaries of prejudice or greed.

It is extremely far off, indeed.

If those were to happen, they would likely be undertaken take a powerful entity (government, etc.) bent on domination, which would fuck up the ideal of no needs due to the sheer sadism and callousness required for a genocide of ideas.

Which is why, for it to occur without that happening, it is far off. As in, our planet will be long since destroyed before humanity could ever achieve a state of such intelligence.

So kill everyone that doesnt agree with you? Fen, you realize that the majority doesnt agree with you right, so if that were to happen you would die.

Did I ever once say to kill everyone that doesn't agree with me?

Do you think I would be bothered by dying? Especially for the good of humanity? The only part of death I don't like is the fact I can't say "Oh, so that is what death feels like," afterward.

Unemployment - More people means more workers to take jobs, but it also means more people to create businesses and job opportunities. The existence of some unemployed people is natural; after all, people get fired and quit. The economy won't be improved if they suddenly vanish.

IIRC, a main reason the European Renaissance was able to occur was because the people who survived the Bubonic plague suddenly had more money (higher demand for jobs (read: more pay)), and more time to do shit, because they didn't have to provide for so many people. That gave them time to research arts and invent things.

And if jumping from the Dark Ages of European Feudalism to widespread practice of arts and invention isn't an example of how a population drop can help economy, then perhaps I'm missing something.

However, I don't advocate we just go off slaughtering people or forcing them to stop having children (or even using it as a reason to support gay marriage, unless you really can't come up with any better reason... >_>;).

The whole "overpopulation of the planet ZOMG" thing is WAYYYY overblown, IMO. >_>

My math teacher did this thing. The population rises about 1% annually. And in like 20 years, the estimated population would be like over 9 billion. <_< That's a lot of people.
