REGISTRATION
- Your username should be the same as the alias you intend your character to have, or at least similar (the first name, or the last name, or both, or something close, etc...) Keep numbers and symbols to a minimum, as it is unnecessary. Two players should not have the same name, and if they do, symbols and numbers don't help differentiate that much. Keep in mind to use your intended ALIAS, not your intended name. (More on that in the "How To Apply" Section)
- You can have multiple characters, but you must register separately for each one, using that character's name. For example, you start out with "Max" but want
- Use an email address that you check often, so that you will know if you are contacted as soon as possible.
STARTING UP
- Make sure, before making an operative, you read the 'How to Apply' guide. Follow those rules and make your character. All operative applications must be added by a moderator or administrator. If your application is accepted, you may post.
- Introduce your Out of Character self at 'The Lobby', get to know all the other players, make friends, etc...
- Every new player's first mission is found in 'The Briefing Room'. It will be labeled as 'The Training Room' (Its author will be Mission Control) and details will be inside as to what the mission is and the requirements, etc... This will get you through the basics a little more. Further instructions will be found within
- Visit 'The Planning Room' also. This is where mission ideas are brought up, before officially starting. This is where things are organized before any In-Character posts, so if you want to accept a mission without the hassle of throwing yourself into a plot-in-motion, you would go here. This is also where you would ask around if anyone is willing to rp with one of your characters, etc . ..
- All other missions after the training mission that are starting up or well under-way will be located in 'The Briefing Room' as well. To ask to join, pm the user who started the mission with a request for whatever part you had in mind. Wait for their answer. However, it is recommended, but not required that you not enter a mission-in-progress, as it is an odd thing. Think of arriving late for work, you don't want to do it. Try and view and join it when it is in 'The Planning Room' first.
IN CHARACTER POSTS
- Use third-person for all in character posts. This is how most people use it, and so there will be little confusion so long as everyone follows the same narration style.
- If you are posting in a mission (where you would use 'In Character') and you need to say something Out of Character for whatever purpose, make sure to separate it from the rest of the In Character post, such as with 'Out Of Character:', 'OOC:', or other things. Do it as rarely as possible, though, as it is best to stay in-character during missions.
- Profanity is allowed, but don't over-do it to the point where it doesn't make sense, nor avoid it to the point where it's strange for them to not say it. 'I'll see you in heck', for instance. This site is, currently, PG-13, and while some 13-year-olds may already be well aware of more curse words than some adults, others might be less knowing of them.
- On that note, sex and sexual actions should be kept to a minimum, and if things start going too far, finish it in a pm and do a time-skip past the scene in the actual mission. Once again, this site is currently going to be PG-13 and so we don't need rampant sex-hounds everywhere. Minor actions such as kissing and groping can be allowed, but don't go much further than that.
- One of the most important things to know is to not God-Mod, God-modding is when you take control of another person's character in one of your posts, or if you make your own character god-like (there are other terms for these actions, some call the former "power-playing" etc . . . but in this forum ti is all under the category of "god-modding). For example, if you are in a fight scene with another character, 'He (your character) cut Drake's (other person's character) arm off, and Drake screamed as he stared at the stump left behind'. This is god-modding because you don't give him a chance to avoid losing his arm. This can be allowed if, AND ONLY IF, the other person gives you permission to god-mod, in order to make posting easier, etc...Even for very small things, it is best you get their permission first, though it can be excused if it is VERY small.
As for the other form of God-Modding (making your character god-like), an example would be having him (your character) hit a target twelve miles away with a standard, non-scoped handgun on his first attempt. Repeat offense of Godmodding will result in a ban.
- Do your best to have good grammar. Don't join if you don't know how to spell 'Word' or something like that. When it comes to dialogue, you can include slang such as, 'di'nt' if it makes sense for your character, but when narrating actions, keep spelling well. If the character is writing something, and you are stating exactly what they are writing, misspellings are allowed if the character misspells something.
- There is no minimum or maximum length for posts, but do try to keep them reasonably long, and don't make them longer than they should be (Going into great detail about irrelevant things for no real reason except lengthening the post is just annoying to readers. I realize there are some scenarios in which a previous post puts you in a situation where you cannot do very much, but in that case just do as much as you can.
OUT OF CHARACTER/CHATBOX
- Even in out of character, try to use your best grammar, so that others can understand you. This includes not using too much 'leet (or 1337) speak'.
- Keep profanity to a minimum in out of character posts, it really isn't necessary, nor appealing, to talk with someone who swears far too often.
MISSIONS, ETC...
- There are two types of roleplays that your characters can participate in. Mission Control-Sponsored missions and Freelance missions. Freelance missions are missions you organize for your in-character self. Freelance missions will usually occur in accordance to Universal News, as that is where Significant Plots will start out (namely 'Campaigns'). If a mission in the planning section is Player Created (As I hope many will be) please remember to mark it as 'FREELANCE' or 'MISSION CONTROL'. If you intend on starting a freelance mission that is changes the current affairs of the Universe (something large-scale, like saying that a certain planet has been destroyed, etc...) please pm me with the idea first, so that it does not compromise anything. It's on a first-come first-serve basis, meaning that if I allow someone to change the affairs of the universe, you can't change them simultaneously within one of your missions.
- You'll notice that a lot of things within the 'Mission Control' category will be posted by a character named 'Mission Control'. Don't worry, that's me. It's simply for role-playing purposes. This character is actually many characters (Hence Mission Control) and it may sometimes interact with your characters within an rp (usually only mission control-sponsored ones, such as to ensure you stay on-target, provide advice, etc...)
- Think of this universe as a living, breathing, universe. Everything affects everything. if you happen to choose to kill a prime minister during a mission (assuming there is a prime minister to be killed) then you can expect there to be some repercussions. Maybe Mission Control will be really mad, or maybe you'll be assigned a new mission to defend Mission Control from an oncoming attack, or maybe there will be a 'Universal News' post that says that planet's police force is out to get you. All sorts of stuff. This is to keep things fluid and entertaining.
- Often, one of your missions will require inter-planetary, inter-system, or even intergalactic travel. If the mission is Mission Control-sponsored, a ship will be provided for all the operatives signed up for the mission. Operatives also all have their own private cruiser. It is a 600,000-OC (Omni-Credit) cruiser that is on loan from Mission Control for your own freelance missions. They do wish to be paid back, so as you complete missions, don't forget to occasionally transfer some OCs to Mission Control
These rules are subject to change at any time by my choice alone. I will make an announcement in this forum if there is a change, pointing out what the change is.
