I'm trying to upload an avater that I made but it doesn't seem to be working! It's a bmp file, is that the wrong kind? Anybody know what I did wrong? :blink: |

I have it set so that it should except .bmp. I'm not sure why it's not working. If you want you can PM me the avatar and I'll try to put up for you. |

Thanks for the info Judith. I just tested it and the cat avatar I have up now is .bmp and went through. I can give it a try or you can try converting it to .png or .jpg. |

Ok, now my computers acting really wierd and won't let me open the file. So, for when I get it working again (which will hopefully be soon :D ), could it be that it's too big and so it won't let me use it as an avater? And also how do you convert it from a bmp. to a jpg.? |

If it's too big, the forum should automatically resize it for you. To change it to jpg, you have to open it in Paint. Then click file ---> save as. When the save as box opens click the arrow next to "save as type" and select JPEG. Then click save. |

I used to have the same problem with bmps on a different forum. My problem was the file size, which needs to be 25 kb or under in order to work... From my experience, bmps tend to be much much larger than jpegs. Like what those before me have said, try changing the file type if it's too big :). |

Not sure if you were referring to my post or not...:blink: Just to clarify, when I said file size i didn't mean x by y pixels. I meant the, well, size of the file :P Just right click and check the file's properties to see if the size is below 25 kb (the file size restriction for avatars). If not, jpeg it :) From my experience, many 100x100 bmps (resized version or not) can quite possibly be over 25 kb and therefore cannot be posted. |

Yeah, BMPs are typically not compressed so they're going to be pretty big. |

Thanks everyone for the help. Unfortanetaly our computer completely messed up and we lost all of our files, including my avaters :( Maybe I'll try to make some more later :D Thanks again! |

That's not bad at all. Better than my first attempt. Well, the color red is pretty bright, and it's kind hard to see some letters so maybe use Yellow (I did) some people think it's a eeky color, but it's bright and you can see it. If you need some avatars tell me. I love to make some :D |

Erg, that stinks. :( I've lost everything on my computer a couple times too. Now I back everything up frequently so I can retrieve anything if my computer goes on the fritz. |
