Right you guys, here's a "heads up'" for next year probably Feb/March. As you may recallo there are two E 7's here in Koh samui Thailand, Boat number 64 "Ice Bucket" (remember her?) and Moon Shadow (bought new so never raced in Oz). These two boats were 2nd and third overall in the Sports Boat class at the Koh samui International Yacht Regatta held in June 2008 (www.samuiregatta.com). We, Yachting Siam, are planning to hold an INTERNATIONAL MATCH RACING EVENT early 2009 to race these two boats over an extended weekend. We already have significant interest from Hong Kong, Singapore and obviously Thailand (Phuket, Pattaya as well as Koh Samui) and are checking with Malaysia (their sailing academy) so we think we can muster about 10 teams to match race the boats on a 'Round Robbin' basis, with 20/30 minute round the cans races, with winning teams progressing to knock out rounds as the w/e progresses. We already have some early interest in sponsoring the event, accomodation, etc but obviously this may depend on how 'international' it is. As Oz is the 'home' of E 7's we are enquiring if you nguys want to come and race up here in Feb March. Remeber those pic's we sent earlier this year of us racing in tee's and shorts in feb!!! yeah, its that warm even in winter I don't need firm numbers but if you guys can discuss this we would love to have the E 7 experts up here to race against us, and the Honkies, Sings etc all of whom have a good sports boat pedegree. We have a great venue here, come and experience it! Anyhow talk it over and let me know initially via this thread but also on mickgrover@mac.com Lets go for it!

Sounds like a great event MS. How much racing do you think an entrant will get? It's a long way to come however if combined with a short holiday, might be able to get approval from the other half. |

Well that really depends on how many teams are entered. We want to try to make sure every body gets the same amount of racing after the pool races so we are thinking of Cup/Bowl/Plate in the knockout stages. That should mean a minimum of 6 races per team based on 16 teams which we think is a feasible number. How does that sound?

Opppsss.....sorry, my maths is a bit awry...... Based on 12 teams (which is the max we could handle) each team would race 15 times. That's every team racing each other in the pool stages before the knock out stages. Plans are for one days practice and 4 days racing. Course will have a gate in the middle to keep it spectator friendly..... |
