As the Skipper of the vessel - don't you have the responsibility of checking the adequacy of the boats rigging prior to competition !!

Only if you are sailing with novices !!!!

Wouldn't be the first time any of you threaded the spinnaker halyard in between the forestay and jib halyard now would it...
It's a long way up there and my eyesight's not that great these days :-)

I approached Greg Elliott on the issue of using carbon spars and he's cool with it. He just wanted to be sure that boats without them were not disadvantaged and I know the Management Team won't want this either. We need to protect the competitiveness of all the boats which we currently enjoy.

So all we need is to group order, may bring the price down?

How do you make the transition from aluminium to carbon. I don't particularly want to buy a new pole ats I have lots of other things on my shopping list.
I haven't seen any poles break. The performance advantage over the water would be negligible. Just a bit easier for the bowman. But then all Elliott bowmen are hewn from solid granite (except Alice and Caz who get by with exceptional technique).
Maybe we could say if you have a girl on the bow you can have a carbon pole :P

Well done on this site by the way Walshy.

carbon masts have not been too successfull on elliott 780s 3broaken in s.a. in last 12 months. however would consider carbon poles

We certainly aren't expecting there to be any performance advantage as you suggest, just to make it easier on the bow.
If you don't need a new pole, then don't bother to get one ....

I'm all for the carbon pole - I need to get a new one anyhow as the alloy I have is not tapered and weighs a ton.

If we go carbon why do we need a weight or supplier restriction - weight is already minimal - anything lighter is not an advantage - if people want to have a go let them snap it - more than 1 supplier should keep cost honest.

We don't really want to get into the situation of breaking things for the sake of minimal weight gain, this would end up just bad.

The one supplier has the benefit of keeping the item in control of the class, as is the same with most parts. If it aint broke, don't try and fix it. I think a supplier has more to gain by keeping a good cost for us, I think there probably is only the two anyone.

Whats happening on the Carbon Spinnaker Pole issue - seems to have stalled. I think we need to get the E7 Management Committee to put it to a vote.

I've got no issues with you sailing with it - will give everyone a chance to take a look at it first hand and make up their minds.

I'll tickle up the committee folk and get some action as well
