Hoarfrost – 8 speed // 8 traction // 3 torque // 0 weapon // 11 armour (+1 plow) Nervous Wedge Boy – 7 speed // 7 traction // 4 torque // 0 weapon // 12 armour Analysis 1) In a battle of pure wedges, I’m faster, have the better wedge because its teeth focus its weight more effectively, can’t be high centered while I think he can (his picture isn’t clear, though it looks like his chassis sticks out past his wheels at the back), enjoy better wheel placement for turning, and my wedge will still work when I’m inverted. It’s a case of two well-statted bots, but one with a better optimized design. 2) He has a slight torque advantage, but no way of actually pushing me. If he tries to angle in on my wedges, I have the drivetrain to counter him and he’ll slide up my wedge. It has no teeth to catch him. Instead, its slope increases, so driving into it just means that he’s probably going to flip himself over on it or just beach himself on it with his poor ground clearance. Strategy a. My main focus will be on playing this aggressively and doing everything that he does just a bit better. I’ll be on the lookout for angled reversing, baiting, hazard baiting, using the conveyors to his advantage, and angling in strategies and counter them with my better drivetrain and common sense. Mostly, though, I want to force him to adjust to my moves. b. I’ll use my better speed to bully him around and create even the slightest of angles to wedge him from. Even a couple of degrees will keep his wheels off of the floor with his zero ground clearance and the side (and probably rear) overhangs. c. I want to get him to a flipper or spike and overturn him, making his wedge useless. From there, it’s all about bullying and wall slams and high-centering him and pinning him over the flamethrowers. d. If I get flipped, I still have the better wedge, but if I have a clear opportunity, I have the armour to just edge the tip of my wedge onto a flipper in order to self-right. Try that for style and control points if it’s not too risky. e. Overall, just drive smart, adjust, avoid the hazards unless I’m in control, and stay real damned aggressive and mobile. GL |
