REX: 8 speed / 8 traction / 5 torque / 3 weapon (2+2 jaws) / 10 armour (+1 jaws)

Redemption Denied: 7 speed / 6 traction / 3 torque / 5 weapon / 9 armour

1) I have a significantly better drive train and weigh twice as much as a normal competitor, meaning that I’ll only be vulnerable to being flipped out of the arena on the low wall.

2) His wedge is slightly better, though I can press mine immediately before contact. Unless you’re Wolverine, you ain’t spotting that shit. With his long 2WD chassis and my drivetrain advantage, flanking him should be reasonably easy as well.

3) I have jaws that can actually control him, and will be pushing with 6.5 speed and perfect control, making it less than easy for him to escape. While his design affords him a bit of protection against being high-centered, it’s very little, since his wheelguards overhang his wheels significantly. REX’s rear drive pods are on pivots that allow them to maintain contact with the ground even when wedged, and RD’s wedge is really shallow anyways, so j-hook and get to his side in the process. If he wedges me from the front, a flip is only going to flick the jaws up like big hinged wedges. Finally, if he flips me, I’m completely invertible, so just use my better drivetrain to reposition and resume the attack. No chaining for him.

The plan here is nothing big and special. Stay aggressive and keep this fight far away from the low wall. Focus on slamming him into the other walls whenever I’m in control of him and if I have him solidly clamped at the end of the pin timer, spin around rapidly in a circle and fling him away for a showy finish.

I should be able to beat any wedge except his front, so angle in. Also get him to fire his flipper prematurely by backing up immediately before contact. REX is uniquely built to do something like this, as feet don’t carry momentum in the same way that wheels do, and I have the speed, control, and acceleration to pull off a quick stop and then rapid dart forward while his flipper closes (powerful pneumatics like that with such a long stroke will take a bit). Once he’s wary of being baited, press, but only do so if we’re not anywhere near the low wall. If he’s hugging it, turtling, or something to that effect, press immediately before contact and then back the hell up as he tries to take advantage and angle in/flank. I may suffer some loss of control while pressing, but no loss of speed. Once I’ve drawn him away, punish him relentlessly.

Stay aggressive, drive smart and do the rational thing, FFS, avoid the low wall, adjust in the logical manner to anything not accounted for here, and try to reach a final!

Good Luck, Josh.
Wins: a bunch
Losses: more every week!

-My god, those wedges leading into the jaws are so steep, they only barely qualify as wedges. How this thing would ever get the benefit of the doubt in getting under other wedges is quite frankly beyond me. Even pressing into the floor isn't a magical cure-all for garbage wedges. If RD's super low profile and the fact that it's essentially a giant hinged wedge that is roughly the weight of any regular HW bot can't beat out "wedges" that are nearly perfectly vertical I'm going to want a pretty damn good explanation. It's also worth noting that REX has 4 walker pods (or whatever you call them) so he's essentially a 4WD bot in terms of leverage. No Bueno against a 2WD hinged wedge in general.

-He's only slightly faster than me. His control is slightly better as well, but neither is a large enough gap to be overwhelming by any mean. He also has great torque, but I don't need to be super concerned about winning any pushing battles anyway with my ability to flip him. In any case his pushing ability would be nullified if I'm able to get under him anyway.

-The gameplan will be to drive straight at him. As I said, I'd be rather shocked (and not a little appalled) if I can't out wedge him. The arena floor prevents him from just blindly pressing into the floor and given that we're both fairly quick bots, the reaction time window for him would be EXTREMELY small, and in any case him pressing into the floor could cause some big drive issues for him since doing so would radically change the center of gravity on the bot while it is traveling at a high rate of speed.

-If I wedge him try to get some chain flipping going. Obviously it would be ideal to get him to the short wall and try and get him out and put an end to the fight that way, but if I can at least keep flipping him I'll have him off balance and he won't have much opportunity to try and try to find ways around my wedge. If I need to, try some angling in to wedge him.

-If I do get caught in his mouth, RD's design makes it fairly likely that he'd be clamping me on some part of my flipper, and my flipper has more power than his jaws (by more than double in fact). Therefore I should be able to fire it to force open his mouth and get myself free of his grasp. Back away and get my front pointed at him as quickly as possible and try to get back on the offensive.

-So stay aggressive and try to keep my flipper pointed at him at all times and try to keep him airborne as much as possible!

Good Luck!

I should go 3-1 this week but it'll probably be something like 0-4 or 0-5.

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.
