Terminal Velocity Classic vs Chimera V; ROBOTS Heavyweight Quarterfinals

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Chimera V: Speed: 7 / Traction: 7 / Torque: 3 / Weapon: 5 / Armor: 8 (+1 front)
Terminal Velocity Classic: Speed: 6 / Traction: 5 / Torque: 3 / Weapon: 7 / Armor: 9

To consider:
-GF will make a bigger deal than necessary about me being 4-bar. I have exposed wheels, a weapon stroke of a foot and a half, and 5 weapon power.
-I have more of everything important to this matchup. Including wheels :V
-we both threaten OOTA on all walls
-unlimited flips are quite important in this sort of match. I have ‘em.

Set-up: Forks, wedge teeth ON

Strategy: whether or not he runs with the extenders I think my forks are the better option since I can use my better drivetrain to force the head-on. And that’s basically what this match is for me; get under from the front and FLIP!

Yeah so he can be all aggressive and strategic and shit but he still has to get around the fact that he’s slower and I can just wedge him from the front after adjusting for his inevitable angling in with my perfect traction. Try and get him between me and walls, while avoiding the opposite – running away if I need to. In general though I’m not super focused on getting the KO, since I’m confident I can win via match control if needed.
If he flips me, not to worry! I’m faster and can get to a safe place before self-righting to ensure he can’t chain flips. Don’t let him get under me though – I should see my forks ride up his flipper before he gets under anything important, and with the drivetrain I have reacting in time to back off is not unreasonable.

If he corners himself, my job is that much easier, especially since he’s over by the short wall (which is much more of a guaranteed KO for me than the high walls – though both are possible!).

Adjust to his strategies, be as aggressive as is prudent, and don’t be a moron.

Vi veri veniversum vivus vici.
Wedge stopper and wedge extenders OFF to maximise my ability to run inverted.

Damn, looks like I really saved the toughest fight for last. Chimera matches me for speed and torque with slightly better traction, has a pretty strong flipper, and some decent armour. However, I’ve got the stronger flipper (which, unlike his, I can deal impact damage with due to it being slightly stronger than his armour, and can OOTA with it more effectively due to the higher stroke and power), can cope better with being flipped (as I can self-right much more easily and also move around to safer spots for doing so), and am able to monster truck him and get behind him much more easily due to how his flipper loses effectiveness more the further you go up along it. Likewise, it’s more difficult for him to do the same to me due to my steeper wedge and flipper radius, it’ll be more difficult for him to recover from a flip with his four-bar self righting, and with his more cumbersome 6-to-8 wheel drive, he’s particularly vulnerable to attacks from behind.

OK… let’s see if we can get a win, here; regardless of which option he picks, the strategy’s more or less the same. Move out quickly, watch to see how he approaches, and be ready to act accordingly. If he tries angling in, turn in the opposite way towards his corners- my 4WD should allow me to get in first. If he goes straight in, accelerate straight toward him, drive right over the top of him (since I’m fairly sure his wedge beats mine- if not, then I can just back up before he gets over, then flip), and keep going until I hit the ground in case he does try to reverse in order to avoid getting caught out, then from there turn around and counterattack from behind before he can react. In either case, I want to get under however I can, and as soon as I do, flip him; but don’t get baited into firing early. Then from there, follow up.

Prioritise flipping him over to start with, and if I can’t do that immediately, try different ways to get past the defences- if he flips me for instance, reverse towards him and self-right just before we collide to propel myself over and behind him, ala Dreadnought VS Redemption Denied. At other times, keep constantly moving with the front facing him, and aggressively go for the sides and corners. In any case though, once I’ve flipped him, be aggressive, and be sure to follow up with more flips and shoves, squashing him into the walls and corners to wear down the clock, in particular actively interfering with and preventing any attempts to right himself, and trying to throw him OOTA- I can do so from any wall, so take full advantage of that to chuck him out, especially when he’s flipped. Make use of the “jumping over him” trick to recover and counterattack from behind if he flips me, don’t fire the flipper unless I’m definitely underneath or need to jump over him, stick to the middle of the arena and keep him herded near the walls, try to conserve as much gas as I can for OOTA attempts, and watch out for if he tries doing the same to me when we’re near the short wall.

Good luck!
