Ruiner of All

I'm reposting this thread because the other thread is full of dead entrants and I want fresher entrants. The other thread has been moved to Old Signups in case there are pictures/stats/descriptions there you want saved.![]() DEADLINE FOR ENTRY: FEBRUARY 24TH, 2018 (11:59pm) TOURNAMENT START: MARCH 2ND, 2018 (11:59pm) :V Banned robots Flying robots Hovercrafts Clusterbots that don't have the same motivation in all their parts Sign-up Info - Everyone enters a total of four bots, one from each weight class (Lightweight, Middleweight, Heavyweight, Superheavyweight) and assigns them stats using 30 points per bot. Points will be divvied up by 5 categories: -Speed -Traction -Torque -Armour -Weapon Power The battles will take place in a Round Robin style with playoffs afterward to determine the champion of each weight class. Role Play Rules - You'll be expected to follow proper role-play etiquette; no directly referencing others RPs, whether in your reply RP, or bringing it up in the discussion thread. If you don't trust the staff's bullshit detectors, don't play. - As a follow up to this, absolutely NO being completely arrogant, either in your RPs or in the discussion thread (i.e. "I'll probably pwn this guy all over the place"). This also applies to public complaining about results. Okay, if you want to know why you didn't win, you're perfectly fine with posting about it in the discussion thread, as long as there is some good degree of reasonability to it (which the staff will determine, not you). But don't piss and shit all over the discussion thread or the Discord servers with "how the fuck did I lose to him, that's retarded" or similar comments. You will get suspended from the tournament for the next week (maybe even the forum), have any RP threads you put up be ignored/deleted, and automatically go 0-4 for that week. - As a SECOND follow up to this, there has been an upswing of unneeded internet drama on the forums regarding tournaments. If there's any, and I mean any overblown drama about the tournament, whoever caused it and/or kept it going (at staff discretion) forfeit that week. Don't be a douchebag on the forums; keep your bullshit on Facebook or Skype or whatever the fuck you use for chatting. Consider yourself warned. - Be concise, but specific; you have a 400 word RP limit to work with. It will be a soft limit... and by soft, I mean that if you go over by what the writers determine is okay, then you're toast. ![]() - Use proper grammar and spelling - This isn't college, but no one is going to read an RP written entirely in leetspeak or whatever the fuck it is you kids do these days. - Do not spend too long talking about stats/design - RPs are your strategy. The writers here aren't stupid, they've been around for awhile and can see when a stat allocation is poor or a design simply won't work. Instead focus on what you plan to do during the fight. If you are RPing for a full-bodied spinner you honestly shouldn't have to write more than "spin up and hit him, while staying away from the walls." - Fight cards will be posted on Sunday usually (as are results, mostly), and you will have one week to post your RPs. If the fight card is, for whatever reason, late, you will still have a full week to RP. Guidelines Ruination has its own league guidelines which slightly differ from the main ruleset. Find it here. Arenas 1. The Battlegrounds ![]() Practically identical to the ARC Arena, except there are no spike strips, wedged walls, or drum. ![]() I'm sure you recognize these things by now. They do big impact damage. However... ![]() ...pointy variants! They instantly punch a hole in your bot, depending on your armour. If you have pretty high armour, it'll take a few hits. ![]() A perennial favourite, the killsaws. Will do low to moderate damage. Tires and tracks beware. 2. Casino Night Zone (v2.0) ![]() Not changed too much, eh? ![]() This little piggy hits harder than the hammers in the Battlegrounds. ![]() The bumper returns. Only one now, and it's in the corner. Slightly less powerful than the hammer, but it packs a wallop. ![]() Of course, these things stay the exactly the same. The flippers knock you away and the spring, should you hit it, will fling you across the arena! ![]() And to top it all off... the slots return as well. Get three of the same character in a row, and the hazards become 1.5x more powerful! However, this time you have to drive over your opponent's square to activate them. 3. Land of Confusion ![]() So good, it returns practically unchanged. ![]() Yep, those construction panels are powerful floor flippers. There's 6 of them in all. And those conveyors can lead right into them. They're unpredictable and they're fast. ![]() And of course, we can't forget these guys. However, the steam jets in the blue circles have been replaced by high-speed spikes that jut up from the ground. Kind of like the Battlebots Ram Rods, or the spikes in Robot Wars Series 3. The red circles, of course, still house flamethrowers. Just to look cool. There are no OOTAs in any arena, sorry flippers. ![]() Thanks to Nick Fisher for rendering both the Battlegrounds and the Land of Confusion arenas for me. Note #1: Administrators reserve the right to modify a bot's individual stats based on discrepancies with the picture of the design. The administrators also have the right to reject any robot submission, stat allocation or design aspect that is considered to be unfair or exploiting the rules in any way. Note #2: As stated in the Ruination guidelines, armour bonuses are different here. When stacking armour bonuses onto a robot, deduct the triangle number of however many points you're adding from your main Armour. So +1/-1, +2/-3, +3/-6, +4/-10 and so forth. Examples: Pursuit has 9 armour. He puts +1 on his rear plow, giving the plow 10 armour and leaving the body with 8. Mimete has 10 armour. She puts +2 on the rear plow, giving it 12 armour and leaving the body with 7. Shadow Zone Forever has 8 armour. It puts +3 on the rear wedge, giving it 11 armour and leaving the rest at a paltry 2. Sleipnir has 10 armour. It can't give a +4 to its front wedge because, even though its front would be 14 armour, the body would be 0 and that is illegal. Note #3: As stated in the Ruination guidelines, speed is different in this tournament. Previously, speed was based on a linear scale, where 8 is twice as fast as 4. No longer. Speed now has a constant of 2 units, with 1 unit for every point added in speed. No robot can have a speed less than 1 point (3 units). For example, a 4 speed robot (6 units) would be twice as fast as a robot with 1 speed (3 units), and a robot with 10 speed (12 units) would be twice as fast as a robot with 4 speed (6 units). Previously, metres per second (m/s) or miles per hour (mph) were used as units of measurement, but since certain people were getting pedantic about realism, there are no specified units, just a "unit". ![]() If you really, REALLY want something to go off of, just say 1 unit = 2 miles per hour. Torque works with speed as it usually does, so no changes there. Note #4: The staff for this tournament are as follows: Tournament Organizer Kody Kunz (KodeBreaker) Co-Organizer Josh Noel (NWOWWE) Writing Staff Nick Fisher (NFX) Dylan McCarthy (Badnik96) Gabe Hopp (The_Angry_Goat) Nick Schuch (BEES) Bradley Maier (Cha0sFerret) Hooray For Lexan Danielle Flannery (Shaba117) Noah ??? (V900) Jack ??? (attackfrog) Laz (Madman) Note #5: For the Ruination series of tournaments (it's not an official ARC rule) starting here, there is going to be a blanket ban on robots with dumb/offensive names. And by dumb, I mean along the lines of edgy or meme crap just for the sake of having a meme. If you want to persist in having your robot named that, either change it somewhat, or abbreviate it in the official sign-ups so it's not so dumb. I (and by extension the rest of the writers) don't want to have to type out dumb names over and over again in results. If you have any questions/concerns, whether it be about a match, the structure of the tournament, or why I even brought this back up, please feel free to contact me. -------- -------- Team Covenant Lightweight Anti-Virus (7.0) ![]() ![]() Speed: 8 | Traction: 8 | Torque: 4 | Armour: 10 (+2 plow) | Weapon: LOL tl;dr: It's an X-shaped brick. Has optional spikes on the wheelpods as pictured, to prevent wider bots from scurrying over the flipper before getting tossed. Chaotic Robotics Group photo! LW: Eat Me Too ![]() ![]() Speed: 15 Traction: 4 Torque: 1 Weapon: 0 Armor: 10 (+2 thwack head) 2WD thwack. Wheels are at ~60 degree angles from the center, and cambered to maintain traction. Its purposefully low torque and horribly placed wheels pretty much guarantee that it'll never reach anything close to its top speed in linear movement - the wheel placement alone would theoretically put its actual top forward speed around 6-7 if I can drag some Physics 101 and the new speed scale into this, and such low torque means it would take a while to reach that speed - but as far as rotational movement goes, top speed is no problem. The tail is hinged. MW: Lulver Sorry, I decided I want to win. ![]() ![]() Speed: 6 Traction: 5 Torque: 1 Weapon: 13 Armor: 5 2WD undercutter. Exploits aren't just for rulesets anymore. Has a bunch of tiny indents in the wedge to reduce the amount of wedge touching the ground, thereby making the rest of the wedge extra effective at wedging. The thwack head has spiked sides for a horizontal thwacking option, and a small tooth to grab on to the backs of plows and the like. The weapon point goes to a clutch that allows me to hold the thwack tail in place at whatever point of its arc it's in. SHW: Scrunglebot GIANT SAW. ![]() ![]() Speed: 4 Traction: 1 Torque: 1 Weapon: 14 (3 arm / 11 saw [12 effective thanks to saw rules]) Armor: 10 (+1 each side wedge) 4WD bot with a MASSIVE SAW. It has to be in all caps. It just doesn't work otherwise. Anyway, this monstrosity was inspired by IRL sawbot Pitter Patter. It's basically just Pitter Patter with mecanum wheels, hinged side wedges, and a GIANT FREAKIN' SAW. Can drive inverted, reliably self-right (and self-invert) with the saw arm, and did I mention that it has an ENORMOUS SAW? Front and side wedges are hinged skirts with a limited hinge. In other words, if the opponent is only under the skirt, it won't take the drive pods off the ground. Still keeps the very short stance as seen with the walker and wheeled versions. The devastating hammer of doom and destruction also makes a return, ready to pop more tops and flatten more robots (not to mention unintentionally killing the arena floor while doing so ). Hammer can hit the opponent when something is underneath it, and can reach over (most) plows and vertical weapons with it's long reach and bent arm. Can self right in no time by firing the weapon. But that's not all! There's also a tanshe style flipper configuration for annoying overheads and slow powerhouses. The flipper is installed in the rear by removing the hammer support assembly in the back and having the walker controls reversed. Flipper uses same chain driven assembly for the hinge of the flipper, with the pneumatics powering it. LW: Electric Agression ![]() Electric Agression is a 4WD robot that relies on strategy, it has two weapons which are the jaws that open and close to either lift or clamp, the secodary weapon is a control spinning disc that has enough power to flick the opponent instead of damaging the opponent (if the armour is weaker.). The armour is titanium, features powerful drive motors to help the robot speed around the arena. The robot has a rear feeder wedge as a defence. The robot can run inverted. Drum spinner, drum can go either way and it works perfectly fine upside down (albiet it doesn't have the skids to feed into the weapon). (Note: all images are thumbnails. Click on them for full size images.) ![]() PRESENTS... In the Lightweight division,... Pinstripe ![]() A mecanum-drive vertical spinner with style. The front plow is hinged, but won't flop far enough to get in the way of the wheels. It runs okay inverted as well, resting on those white supports behind the spinner. The spinner itself is a single-tooth design. Speed: 5 Traction: 3 Torque: 1 Weapon: 14 Armor: 7 (+1 plow) In the Middleweight division,... The Maw It's evil, it's hungry, and it doesn't need eyes to find and devour your robot's eternal soul. It's got tracks and a spring-powered horizontal ramming plow with lots of sharp teeth. The plow is effectively hinged: the two pistons, which retract it after firing, have some slack to move up and down. It obviously can't self-right but the teeth on top of the plow can get underneath things just as well as the ones on the bottom. Speed: 7 Traction: 5 Torque: 3 Weapon: 5 Armor: 10 (+1 plow, which also gets +2 weapon armor) In the Heavyweight division,... Sinmill A horizontal spinner, but sideways! The three-bar weapon spins on a ring around a third wheel. This design should avoid some of the problems of traditional Tombclones, such as being difficult to turn and being spun sideways by the torque reaction from spinning up. It even runs just as well upside down. Speed: 4 Traction: 2 Torque: 1 Weapon: 15 Armor: 8 And finally, in the Superheavyweight Division,... Speed Bison A 4WD lifter with racing stripes for +1 speed. Instead of lifting the plow on an arm, it has its front wheels on arms which rotate downwards to lift the entire body up (check the top-down picture for a better idea of the pivot point.) The wheel-arms can rotate 360 degrees to self-right the robot if it gets flipped (although in practice this might also require some torque from the drivetrain.) It has two configurations: a three-pronged fork and a wide plow, both of which are shock-mounted to the chassis. Speed: 7 Traction: 6 Torque: 3 Weapon: 2 Armor: 12 (+1 plow/fork) |

Lightweight: Some music, because this bot is totally fly, dude, and it's ice themed. Hoarfrost III ![]() So, it's a 2WD wedge that isn't just a short triangular slice of cheese. It has massive wheels and a heavy front plow mounted at an angle so that it always rests on its wheels and the tip of its wedge both ways up. Why the weird shape?? So it has more weight forward and doesn't wheely while staying actually invertible. That, and I just like the aesthetic. Wedges are boring. This one at least looks different. ![]() Shit like the 'exhaust pipes' and the little wedgelets on the front are removable. ![]() 8 speed // 8 traction // 3 torque // 0 weapon // 11 armour (+1 wedge) ![]() Have some proof of its invertibility. Middleweight: While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words, dying to believe in what you heard, I was staring straight into the shining sun. Sundancer ![]() Hammer plus... ![]() mecanum wheels ![]() plus LEDs = ![]() Grace, beauty, style, and deadliness. This is a strafing, mecanum wheel full 180 degree hammer with a hinged plow up front and lots of yellow LEDs because LEDs make things cooler. The flavour text at the top is an underappreciated song and the title links to the album. Removable wedge teeth and a hammer blocker can be found in the album if you click the title. I'm not junking up the signup thread anymore. Except for one little thing... ![]() Yup, it's a 12 power flipper alternate configuration. 5 Speed // 4 Traction // 1 Torque // 12 Weapon // 8 Armour (+2 plow) Heavyweight: (not Hellhound because fuck these rules) Meanstreak II ![]() So ya, Memestreak is back, mainly so that I have a second fast and annoyingly wide drum spinner. ![]() However, I'm trying something different with this one. It's basically a control flipper, just with the advantage of not having to time its flips and not getting fucked by the R4 armour stacking rules. Can self right by running into anything with its drum. For now, it's going into Ruination 4 with stats of... ![]() 8 speed / 8 traction / 2 torque / 5 weapon / 7 armour (+1 drum) ![]() All and any of the pointed skids are removable entirely, leaving only supports to stop the drum from hitting the ground. Anyways, click the title for a link to the album. It's highly recommended, and there's some additional information in there. ![]() Superheavyweight: Step One: Insert scary-sounding intro thing here. Step Two: Insert boast about my 1337 360 xXxN05C0P3xXx rendering skillz here. Step Three: Insert fucking awesome song here. Step Four: Win at life. Krakatoa ![]() I wanted to do something a bit different, so I went with a Complete Control - inspired design. It uses tracks for mobility to make good on the dismal failure that was my only previous tracked robot: Savage. ![]() The lifter is positioned a bit further back on the body to prevent overbalancing when picking something up. There are also a pair of removable skids under the black lifter pontoons for stability. Check the album linked in the title if you wanna take a look. Obviously, the bot can self-right. ![]() The flames come out of two nozzles and aren't just single-point things for pretty effects. They can actually do some damage with prolonged enough contact. ![]() The track system is a point of particular pride. I used a picture of the old Sherman tank outside of the army base where I used to train as a reference for them. They consist of 1083 individual components. Anyone is welcome to use them. ![]() Speed: 7 // Traction: 7 (inc. +1 tracks bonus) // Torque: 2 // Weapon: 5 (3 lifter/3 clamp/3 flamethrower) // Armour: 10 (+1 lifter) Step Five: Squidward. Oh yeah, and there's a lifter only config. The lifter gets the full five weapon points, and some nice weapon armour, for a total of 13 frontal armour. ![]() Clicking the title will take you to an album where removable wedge spikes (for the plow config) and hammer blocker are shown. Reserved again, mofoes. LW -- Ayame ![]() She's back! Still named and themed after Ayame, the travelling entertainer-turned-kunoichi from the still-rather kickass fighting game series Power Stone, this speedy and acrobatic rear-hinged pneumatic flipper returns from CBC2 to show even more of what she can do. She can self-right and traverse wedges and other such obstacles with ease using her awesome ninja skills and raised rear wheels, and has super-tough armour (even under the weapon!), a thick lower flipper plate, and rounded corners all over for minimising damage, allowing her to effectively resist most attacks. All the other lightweights here, watch out... it's ninja time! Speed: 8 Traction: 7 Torque: 2 Armour: 11 Weapon: 2 (Pneumatic Flipper) Notes: Can quickly and effectively self-right. Raised rear wheels give her the ability to easily drive off wedges, and the weight is spaced mostly at the front and where the wheels are; not enough to affect the turning, but enough to prevent her from rearing up and doing wheelies. Has a Dreadnought-like layer of armour just under the flipper for additional protection, and the rest of the flipper is under the thicker panels at the front (including the corners), so even if the lower panel breaks, it'll still work with the rest of it underneath. MW -- Marauder ![]() And seeing as it seems we're going for a full retro squad this time, everyone's favourite unkillable tracked machine returns as well for some more battles. It's mostly the same as it was in its previous appearances, but it's now got a higher and properly hinged scoop (even though you can't see it in the pic -- yes, it does still say "PUSH THIS, MOFOES." ) to improve its defences against both overhead weapons (axes, crushers, etc.) and spinners, and to stop it from beaching itself whenever it presses the Lifter down. It also has a properly interchangeable set-up for weapons this time around, having a more solid wedge for the Flipper, a fully reversible set with side skirts for the Lifter, and Wedge Extenders available to either set-up. So slightly more realistic, but still just as capable of murdering everything as before! (blame the missing tablet for the slightly naff picture -- I will probably update it to look better once it's fixed!) Speed- 7 Traction- 7 Torque- 4 Armour-10 Weapon- 2 (Electric-driven Flipping/Lifting Plate with optional Wedge Extenders, spring-loaded Spikes and Rear Scoop) Notes- Is completely invertible. Interlocking steering prevents the need for it to reverse its controls when flipped, Wedges and Scoop can be used effectively regardless of if it is flipped over or not due to both being reversible, and has two sets of spring-loaded Spikes- one for either side of the chassis. Wedge is interchangeable between Flipper (solid wedge) and Lifter modes (wedge with side skirts) for different opponents, though it loses the ability to fire upside-down effectively in Flipper mode. HW -- Dreadnought Mk3 ![]() The stalwart flipper of Ice Cubed Robotics returns to the fray for another shot at the Heavyweight title. By this point, you probably know who he is, and you know what he does -- so don't cross him, or he'll be more than happy to add you to the long list of bots he's thrown for a loop with the classic pneumatic haymaker. ![]() Speed: 7 Traction: 6 Torque: 3 Weapon: 5 (front-hinged pneumatic flipper) Armour: 9 Notes: Can self-right quickly and efficiently with the flipper. The polycarbonate strip on top of the flipper is removable if necessary. SHW -- Lethal Injection 3 ![]() LI3 returns as well, ready as ever to inflict Robo-AIDS upon anyone unlucky enough to fight it. Completely changed from the original version, it now has a more powerful set of three serrated lifting and clamping spikes that can rotate all the way round, allowing it to lift its own body off the ground, with its wheels (foam-filled to prevent punctures) allowing it to move in any position; even up on its front to block axes, crushers, and other overhead weaponry. For spinners, it can be swapped out for an Overhaul 2-like Clamp and Lifter set surrounded by some thick solid wedges for additional protection when needed, and in either format can both right itself and run inverted -- with interlocking steering preventing the need for it to switch controls when flipped -- making it very difficult to try and stop. Sharp scratch... again. Speed: 6 Traction: 5 Torque: 3 Armour: 11 Weapon: 5 (360-degree Lifting/Clamping Spikes with interchangeable anti-spinner Clamp/Fork setup) Notes: Can both run inverted and self-right using the forks. All three spikes can rotate 360 degrees and lift the machine's own weight off the ground, and it features interlocking steering to avoid the need to change its controls when flipped over. |

Team Instant Regret![]() Lightweight: Experiment 626 ![]() Alt configs: Anti-HS Plow, Anti-VS Scoop Speed: 7 Traction: 7 Torque: 3 Armor: 12 (+1 front wedge) Weapon: 1 “HFL, did you just enter a boring wedge?” “Boring wedge? What you see before you is the first of a new species. I call it Experiment 626. He is spinnerproof, axeproof, and can reach speeds of 20 miles per hour. He can self-right from any position, and pull a fully-loaded SUV. His only weaponry, A ONE POINT LIFTER! HA HA HA HA!” “So it is a brick?” “Hey, just a lightweight.” Anyway, Experiment 626 is a fairly standard brick. Six-wheel drive, high speed and torque, thick armor, and a slow lifter. There are three different wedge configurations. The first is a set of four symmetrical wedgelets, which are attached to the lifter shaft with about 5 degrees of travel. So basically, it acts like an underall wedge when resting on the ground but can also be pressed if necessary. Have fun. The second is a big curvy plow to deflect horizontal spinners, and the third is a scoop with sharpened teeth to deal with vertical spinners. Each config has a range of motion of about +/-60 degrees. Middleweight: Clown Recluse ![]() ![]() Speed: 4 Traction: 3 Torque: 1 Armor: 7 Weapon: 15 (14 bar, 1 rotating mechanism). The worst nightmare of arachnophobes, coulrophobes, and anyone who isn't color-blind, Clown Recluse is a tilting spinner along the lines of Pennywise and IT. Basically it has a big spinning bar at the front, driven by a custom-wound hubmotor. The entire weapon support structure can rotate 360 degrees, and about 90 degrees per second, using a harmonic gearbox which the robot is pretty much built around. It locks into place at 90 degree intervals. This lets it spin either direction as a horizontal spinner, and keep its bar pointed upward after getting flipped over as a vertical. The sharp tool-steel skids can optionally be replaced with UHMW ones. NOTE TO OPPONENTS: Clown Recluse can transition from horizontal to vertical DURING a fight; that's why it has a weapon point dedicated to the rotation actuator. I do not have to declare which way I'm starting. Heavyweight: Charybdis ![]() Speed: 16 (2 translational speed) Traction: 1 (4 for spinup calculation) Torque: 1 Armor: 10 (+2 teeth; 7 chassis armor) Weapon: 2 (hits with 16 power) Charybdis is back after a... pretty terrible run in FRR: Backlash. It's moved up a weight class, and moved up seriously in power; it's now driven by four of the high-voltage long Ampflows, with two driving each wheel. The wheels are 6" in diameter and driven at a 1:1 ratio, resulting in a ludicrous tangential speed of over 100 MPH; they're also spaced far apart to take full advantage of the robot's limited traction and allow for rapid angular acceleration. At full speed, the entire robot spins at over 1500 rpm, with the teeth spinning at 200 MPH, and total stored energy of probably somewhere around 80 kJ. The high rpm and having two teeth helps limit bite to ensure that opponents only contact the teeth and not the less durable body of the robot. According to the ARC Rules:
Charybdis has 16 speed and 1 traction, but melty-brain spinners get a +3 bonus for the purpose of calculating spinup time, so it reaches top speed in 16 / (2*(1+3)) = 2 seconds. Superheavyweight: Danger Noodle ![]() ![]() Speed: 3 Traction: 3 Torque: 1 Armor: 8 Weapon: 15 Another returning bot from FRR: Backlash, it's Danger Noodle! This bot's weaknesses were its somewhat squishy wheels and lack of feeder wedges, but the new version has corrected that. The bot now has two different configurations. The first uses a pair of independently hinged side wedgelets and the old wheels to get under opponents. Wedgelets rest on the ground with the robot's rear wheelie bars touching the floor, and can lift an additional 45 degrees upward before they can hit the stops. The second config uses six wheels per side in a star-shaped configuration, all driven by a central friction roller. Basically it's Howler with wheels instead of tracks. Since ARC can't simulate huge durable wheels like Gabriel has, I've given DN redundancy instead. It can lose any two wheels and still have a functional drivetrain and weapon, and depending on which wheels it loses it can potentially lose up to eight - the most probable number is 4-5 before the drum will hit the floor. Danger Noodle runs any way up: in the wedgelet config the wheels still touch the ground when it's on its side, letting it spin itself back down, while in the star wheels config it has side spikes which make it always fall back onto its wheels. The weapon is the same as before, a hugely powerful 100 lb full-body drum surrounding the chassis. Edited by Hooray For Lexan, Feb 22 2018, 11:49 PM.

There is also a fixed ABR plow in the front that can be pressed into the ground by having the bot extend its rear pair of legs, effectively making it a 2WD wedge with a walker's weight behind it. This is to ensure that nothing will be able to get under Magnolia Pico head-to-head unless that's what I want. ![]() Magnolia Pico is debuting a new walking system that aims to improve upon, at once, the realism, mobility, and legitimacy of previous mechanisms. Each leg has three joints: the lowest has a 90 degree range of motion along the x-axis (left-right when viewed front-on), the middle one rotates 90 degrees along the z-axis, and the upper one, where the leg pod meets the body, rotates 90 degrees along the x-axis. Its primary walking motion involves the lower portions of individual legs swinging outwards while the upper portions rotate forward through ~90 degrees. The overall effect is a wave/undulating motion not dissimilar to that employed by centipedes. Its secondary walking motion involves shuffling to the side with a crablike motion. Its tertiary motion involves the lower joint of each individual leg swinging all of the way out and the upper joint going through 90 degrees so that the middle joint's aperture is directly facing the floor. This effectively allows Magnolia Pico to straighten its legs and 'stand', drastically increasing its ground clearance at the cost of making its gait much less effective. It can straighten any individual pair if necessary, particular for the purpose of pressing its wedge. ![]() This robot is able to self-right easily using its hammer, which is mounted on a platform so that it can swing down at opponents and hopefully over any anti-hammer defenses they may be utilizing. Additionally, Magnolia Pico has been designed with ample ground clearance so that it can scuttle off of wedges and so that it doesn't strand itself on its front leg protectors when pressing its wedge. ![]() 5 speed / 5 Traction / 1 Torque / 12 weapon / 11 armour The white skull is alternate to the grey one, and there are removable wedge teeth and a hammer blocker that you can find by clicking the title for a link to the album. The title, as always, is an album, and clicking it is highly recommended. The red text is a link to a song. It really hits its stride at about the 3:30 mark. Thanks for looking. Oh wait...you thought I was done? How cute. ![]() In the first of its two alternative configurations, it becomes, Magnolia Magnifico, an 8 power turret flipper, also benefiting from weapon armour on the flipper, to give it a nice, meaty, 13 armour plow. 5 speed / 4 Traction / 1 Torque / 12 weapon (8 flipper / 4 turret) / 11 armour ![]() In its final configuration, it becomes a Complete Control style clamp and flamer on a turret, known as Magnolia Morte. The lifter, clamp, and turret, are all fast, at five power, and the flamethrower has the informal maximum of 3 power. 5 Speed / 4 Traction / 1 Torque / 12 weapon (9 lifter/clamp/turret + 3 flamethrower) If these pictures aren't clear enough, I strongly recommend clicking the title for an album with more. HW: The works had fallen silent, their assets sold, doors padlocked shut, windows shuttered, and furnaces cold. Their four great smokestacks stood like sentries, but there was nothing for them to watch over. The hum of life and activity that had once characterized this place was a thing of the past. People passed by the old workshop, appreciating its wrought iron gates, admiring its splendid Victorian era brickwork, remembering a time when it had been the birthplace of nightmares made metal. Over time, memories became legends and legends became myths. Until they weren't anymore. A single, loud clank emanated from the cavernous interior, followed by a second. A bright light flickered to life amid mountains of machinery, burning into the night. More followed it, racing from one end of the shop to the other. A man in a frayed black jacket, a red flower in his lapel and a scarf swept jauntily over one shoulder, scurried from machine to drafting table and back again, checking, testing, scribbling, and erasing. He fumbled with a lighter, and suddenly, the yawning maw of one of those furnaces was lit with hungry fire. The derelict chimneys rumbled to life, belching black smoke into the predawn sky. Pistons, flywheels, and presses clicked and whirred. And something was born - no, not created, for Monsterworks machines aspire to be something more than lifeless steel. It was something diabolical. Placing the red flower atop this first of his new monsters, its creator named it... ~ Magnolia Grande ~ ![]() Equipped with dual counter-rotating blades chain driven by a single enormous radial engine through a series of idlers, Magnolia Grande boasts impressive durability, horrifying destructive capabilities, and virtually insurmountable range. The blades can be reversed before fights so that they spin inwards or outwards, or both in the same direction, creating a strong gyroscopic pull to one side. ![]() The exhaust pipes for the massive radial that powers the weaponry are mounted at the rear of the robot. The entire chassis is also segmented and different parts are shock-mounted, allowing it to flex with impacts and hopefully absorb incoming damage better than it otherwise would. ![]() The track pods provide a wide stance for stability as well as rapid turning and a zero turning circle. They are designed to have many redundant rollers that protrude above and below the protective armour. If the treads are disabled, the machine can still run (albeit less effectively) on these rollers. ![]() The robot is fully invertible and quite low to the ground. It has a fairly large footprint, even moreso with both of its blades spinning. The tips pass only a couple of centimeters from each other, but there is no danger of them colliding. 4 Speed / 2 Traction (incl. tracks bonus) / 1 Torque / 17 weapon (-1 dual weapons) / 7 armour SHW: Just when you thought it was safe to go outside... The works were really chugging now, churning out new machines at a rate that could only mean one thing: a tournament was coming soon. The man int he frayed jacket decided to revisit an old design, and a particularly destructive one that had never quite made good at the highest level. Reviving it wouldn't be particularly difficult. He already had the blueprints. Yes, three deadly blades. Hmmm. Hexagons. Treads for extra grip. Yet, there was more that could be done to take one of the most destructive machines in the history of the sport to the next level. The man worked until the sun set and the moon rose, bone white, into the star-filled sky. When he was finally finished, something new but familiar emerged: Howler III ![]() Howler III uses a tread system like the previous version, but this one is at once heavier-duty and grippier than before, providing an extra point of traction and being a bit more resistant to being torn off. It's also designed so that Howler can still move (albeit poorly) on its rollers if the tracks are... forcibly removed. ![]() Four blades. Why? Because coverage matters. It's now harder than ever to hit the treads without Howler turning a couple of degrees and erasing you from existence. ![]() In terms of weight class, this one will go where it needs to go in R4. As for Howler III's stats? Well, how about... 3 Speed / 2 Traction (incl. tracks bonus) / 1 Torque / 17 Weapon / 8 Armour Oh yeah...there's one more thing... ![]() Yup, that's an 18 power (with the bonus) hammer. ![]() Aaaaand this is a dual hammer. All one piece, just two hammers, for weird coverage and more flopping around. ~ Ridiculum et Terribilis ~. Edited by The Monsterworks, Feb 24 2018, 12:49 PM.
