Axtingusher vs Glitch

Glitch is doing a good job at keeping Axtinguisher in front of him and continues to get under and hit Axtinguisher upward. However, Axtinguisher, despite being slightly damaged, still has power in that axe. After missing a couple more times, it manages to hit the hump

this feels incredibly inconsistent - wolf, could you clarify how this went on. as of now it appears that either a)he hit me with the hammer while I was flipping him with the spinner, or b) I suddenly stopped attacking to make sure to be fair and give him a chance to hit me.

Winning all the other fights this week though, very satisfied with that! Got another win for DOA, amd I'm very pleasantly surprised to have won against Glitch and Endless Clowns in particular, thought I'd have been stomped by them for sure.

Despite having the speed advantage (which wasn't really enough to drive out of harm's way every time imo as the writer), I guess I could have clarified this a bit more. There was definitely some damage taken from that weapon to weapon hit, and Glitch seemed to take the worst of it with only 8 armor on the disc. It was also enough to damage the lifter, which was now scraping on the ground a little more than it should. Basically stuck pressing, which is why it still got under consistently, but it also cost what was left of it's drivetrain advantage. So basically, you tried to get away, but Axtinguisher had enough of an opening to get that axe hit.

The Four Wheeled, Six Toothed Driving Purple Robot eater is turning into my most successful robot so far! I always hope for the best, but I didn't expect this one of all my robots to be the standout. I'm looking forward to seeing how far it can go.

that doesn't clarify anything, actually. not only is it idiotic for me to try and back off from a hammer that I'm getting underneath consistently, but I specifically said to be aggressive in my RP, which makes that sort of move make even less sense.

And you could have also risked losing your entire weapon on the next hit. I saw the term "intelligent aggression". My thought was that you wanted to keep the pressure on him, but wouldn't want to risk losing your half working weapons. I didn't see a strategy on what to do if the weapon was dead, so I wasn't sure what to do. Therefore, I suspected that you wanted to keep it aggressive, but did not want your weapon to break. But if needed, I'm willing to do a rewrite

Well I sure as hell tried :V. Been looking for time for the other fights. It's still a 4 armored bot with 8 weapon armor trying to use a speed advantage the size of an apple seed to evade a deathhammer for 3 minutes. I'm not seeing much of a change in outcome due to this fact, but that said, I'll see what I can do with the rewrite

Hold on a minute though, why are we doing rewrites when there's still a number of the previous fights missing altogether? Surely, those should take priority.

my place as a TO =/= my place as a participant in the tournament, but if he wants to re-write it before finishing his other fights that's his prerogative. he's at least mostly up to date. although I quite dislike the fact that he is misinterpreting my want for him to give logical context to occurances in the fight as a want for him to cause the match to end up in my favor.

Mid-Tournament Roundup
With the tournaments 2 weeks away from playoffs and things really starting to heat up, how about we look at each team as a whole and how they've performed thus far. organized by winning percentage let's get a few fun facts out of the way.

Undefeated robots - 14 (Guleh/HowlerII/Talons Out!/Mudcrab/Reinhardt/Slither/Corporate Interests/Black Dog/PnATO/Axtingusher/REX/Coup de Grace/Chimera V)
Undefeated teams - 1 (Chaotic Robotics)
People who have FFed every match since week 2 - 2
Most painful Match name - The Fantastic gyoscopic Brothers vs The Four Wheeled Six Toothed Driving Purple Robot Eater
Matches still missing from weeks before the current one - 14
People with a worse winning percentage than Peskius - 6
Matches decided by Wolf trying a strategy that never had a chance of working - 2
Current robot subject to the greatest amount of communal salt - Hellhound (despite Safe Space existing)
Times a crusher has won a match in this tournament (using its crusher configurations) - 1
Times a crusher has used a configuration other than its crusher configuration - 8
Number of "bot rush" jokes, references, and serious usages: ∞
Number of teams I forgot to add into this initially - 1 (sorry attackfrog :V)

100% - Chaotic Robotics: 7-0 (4-0/3-0)
He may have chosen to only enter two robots, but the two he did enter are incredibly strong, yet to take a loss in this fights that have been written, though apparently no one likes writing this guy’s fights. Mudcrab is a rather surprising winner, able to abuse multiple different types of wedge – though it does have yet to face some of the other strong contenders in its division.

83.33% - The Monsterworks: 15-3 (4-0/3-2/3-1/5-0)
The team known for its dominant and rule-pulling designs is back at it again, dominating, rule-pulling, and almost entering entirely walkers for this tournament. Two undefeated robots fall at the opposite ends of the combat robotics spectrum, with a wheeled vertical deathspinner and a walking uber-brick helping to carry the team to dominance, and Elrathia being no slouch for the wins either despite the team decrying it as a “failed design.” Worrying though could be the future of Safe Space, with some members of the writing staff choosing to interpret its drivetrain as separate for the top and the bottom making the robot as reliant on my list randomizer as it is on its stats and Alex’s ability to strategize for a fight.

81.25% - Angry Goat robotics: 13-3 (4-0/3-0/2-3/4-0)
With 3 currently undefeated robots (though one is missing two fights), Angry Goat Robotics is pulling strong in this tournament, guaranteed at least two playoff spots, and in contention for another two with more victories. The one downside to this relatively successful event has been Glitch; the novel swiss-army crusherbot has struggled in some of its closer fights, with narrow losses to Vovoka, PnATO and Axtingusher.

81.25% - Tartarus Robotics Group: 13-3 (5-0/1-2/3-0/4-1)
People enter a lot of different robots for a lot of different reasons. Some copy other successes, some do it for the lulz. Tartarus enters it to ruthlessly torment his opponents with the stonewall of a lifter or a vertical spinner. undefeated in two divisions, and with only 2 losses regardless, he’s doing a damned good job of winning so far. Savage seems to be the weak link, weak to vertical spinners in either configuration from the limited data we have so far, though it could quickly start pulling its weight when more matches come in. expect these ruthlessly optimized designs to continue to make noise into the deep playoffs.

76.47% - Team Instant Regret: 13-4 (3-2/2-1/5-0/3-1)
Probably the most well-qualified of the teams in terms of design realism, you will grow a beard by the time you’re done reading the signup post. What all those words about the technical aspects of the robots boil down to are an ability to use his understanding of both real-life designs and the stat system to create robots capable of forcing opponents outside of their desired strategies when successful. Firebird seems to have had the most difficulty with this, losing to some of its strongest opponents without a way to combat a fast 2WD wedge. The biggest surprise for everyone, including its designer, has been PnATO – able to pull off a surprise win against Vovoka courtesy of some questionable strategy, and another highly entertaining split decision against Glitch. With that spot clinched and all 4 possible, Team Instant Regret is probably feeling the exact opposite emotion as of now.

75% - Aquatic Robotics 3-1 (3-1)
Able to take a single robot space, attackfrog has yet to dissapoint with the chance he was given. so far able to win when it should, its one loss has been to one of the other big contenders in its division, Redemption Denied. it was able to take on The Fantastic Gyroscopic Brothers however, a cluster that has confounded some other drivers, showing that Aquatic robotics definitely has the strategy down; it's just a question of if the robot's design and stats can keep up.

67.67% - Ice Cubed Robotics: 12-6 (4-1/2-3/4-0/2-2)
A relatively diverse cast has led to diversity in results as well, with two division leaders and two robots stuck in the middle of the pack. Without an armor bonus due to the size of its weapon, and its slightly lackluster speed, Terminal Velocity Classic has struggled against a few of its opponents thus far, but could still turn it around in the coming weeks, and in its currently missing fight, especially with its capacity to OOTA over any of the four walls. The gorgeous Dead On Arrival has also been a bit of a dead weight on the Ice Cubed team. Lack of feeder wedges have proven to be a minor annoyance, though the team’s bigger issues seem to stem from trying to perform questionable tactics minorly better suited for horizontal spinners; with those fights out of the way though, the robot is still in contention with strategy adjustments made for the better.

62.5% - Blood Gulch Robotics: 10-6 (2-2/4-1/2-2/2-1)
And here we start to get to the middle of the road. Spike has done fantastically so far, though poor weapon armor will most likely prevent it from going all the way in the playoffs. I think Redemption Denied is missing the most fights of any bot, which makes it hard to get a read on; it certainly has the potential to swing Blood Gulch upwards, though Sarge and Pennywise could also vault up and grab a playoff spot – this seems more likely for Sarge than for Pennywise given division composition.

56.25% - Alpha Robotics: 9-7 (0-4/3-2/2-1/4-0)
Another team fielding a robot with no losses while another has no wins, Alpha robotics has in general reached the point where it avoids most major design flaws. Wolf’s emotional reactions to his robots not working and his love for unnecessary complexity are his major barriers left to overcome. Vovoka has been the victim of these momentary grips of insanity, as he attempted to use torque-reaction to OOTA a shuffler flipper, promply allowing PnATO to OOTA him instead. Complexity has cost Backstab at least one loss, and DSSC is certainly hurting for that weapon point lost to sensors against a field of spinners. Success has still been found though, with one division leader and 2 others in great position to make the playoffs, assuming continued strong strategy.

55.56% - Team 57: 5-4 (4-1/1-3)
Overall decent, team 57’s 2 bot team is one of entirely spinners. Seeing success with the more meticulously iterated Tidal Wave, Hiicantpk is leading his division. Blue Zenith, meanwhile, has been stonewalled by bricks and 50/50ed in a match of 1-shots, but did win against a more poorly armored opponent – building off of that success could allow him to still secure a position with both robots.

50% - Team Ignition: 8-8 (2-3/4-0/2-2/0-3)
Successfully managing to be bog last in one division, pack leader in another, and dead middle in the other two, Team Ignition has had mixed results to say the least. Salamandra has had an especially hard road as a sawbot in a division against 4 vertical spinners and a fast horizontal; each win has been hard fought, and its record surely does not affect the effort put in. the No patrol is certainly still in contention, and I’m pretty sure Slither has clinched its spot. Malacoda seems to be the only robot on this team doomed to not qualify, mostly due to having such poor control in a control-focused design. Knowing badnik he’ll pull at least one win for it at some point, though, especially with it still missing a few fights.

31.25% - Team British Robotics: 5-11 (1-3/3-2/1-3/0-3)
With a team full of well-statted solid designs, TBR’s losses seem to be a bit of an anomaly. Mostly chalked up to what seems to be forgetfulness with a few out of the blue FFs, TBR’s strategy seems to have also struggled in a few matches. Ricochet seemed especially well-poised to succeed in its division, but was slain by overconfidence against the Fantastic Gyroscopic Brothers, then by a complete lack of confidence against Chimera V, followed by a tough close loss to fellow 2WD flipper Redemption Denied. A light in the dark has definitely been Shuriken, though the fact that its two losses were to the division leaders is a potential future worry. With a focus on playing to the correct advantages and avoiding cryptic and vague language, Lethal Carriageway and Chewer could certainly still move to succeed in their divisions, hopefully joining Shuriken – and even Ricochet with some luck.

30.77% - Team Pesky Robotechnics: 4-9 (2-3/1-3/1-3)
Was promising right up until he fucking ghosted again. He’d get more effort for his writup if he put more effort into this tournament.

29.41% - Team Cardboard Pony: 5-12 (1-4/1-3/1-3/2-2)
Pat’s RPs have improved astronomically since his early days, but his designs still seem to be limited by his choice of medium. The Devil Inside and Smack Down both show a rather impressive command of the stat system to make designs that function outside of straightforward combat, though both also struggle from relatively easy to exploit design flaws; lack of invertability and static wedges, respectively. Jaws’ CAD seems to have caused as many problems as it solved due to its rear-hinged flipper’s hinge being directly on the wedge, while To Fry’s compact design and poor control has yet to really pay off. While TDI is probably out of commission at this point, all three other robots do still have some sort of chance to make it in.

26.32% - Team Foxtrot Uniform: 5-14 (1-4/1-4/2-2/1/4)
As a functionally new team, it’s expected to see Foxtrot Uniform go through some growing pains. Unfortunately a combination of unaccounted for design weaknesses and oft-flawed RPs have prevented this team from attaining success so far in this tournament, even as RPs improve and the constant flood of new designs from Sylandro continue to show improvement, despite his prepotency for low ground clearance and static wedges. The waifubot Neophyte redglare has been a contender despite some struggles, winning when it should but failing against the other strongest bots in the league. Continued improvement will surely get it to the playoffs, but Sylandro will need to take it to the next level to win after that.

25% - Killjoy Syndicate: 1-3 (1-3)
You’d think with one bot people could be bothered to actually write her fights but I guess not :V . This guy comes in here and decides to just straight up fuck with shit by making this crazy-ass dumb as fuck melty. There’s so much entertainment value here, and a great mind for the absurd. Hopefully as more fights come in and she irons out the RP kinks like the one that caused her early loss to the Surgeon, she’ll see more consistent success. This has been your profane section. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming :V

23.08% - Team Stealth: 3-10 (1-4/1-3/1-3)
Not having the time to make her own designs has really taken a toll on team Stealth’s success. Only using the rather specialized anti-spinner module of the borrowed Endless clowns seems to have hampered her chances in that division, while both Calvin and Death Metal seem to be in a bit of a nowhere land with their stats; Calvin without enough torque or armor to really do much, and Death metal too quick to kill itself without much control. This is really the Achilles heel of team Steath though; she generally know what she’s doing in her RPs; it’s just her robots holding her back. Don’t expect to see her in these playoffs, but do expect to see her once she’s had time to put together a team of her own.

11.76% - Team Fox: 2-15(1-2/1-4/0-4/0-5)
Take 4 spots away from people who want to compete, then never bother to actually compete. Brilliance in its highest form.

11.76% - North-West Sheds: 2-15 (0-3/1-3/0-5/1-4)
Mole seems to be suffering from a major case of last minute design fever, something very hard to overcome especially when making another few newbie mistakes. Static wedges and flat sides abound, with some weak stat allocations to boot. But the designs still hold promise, definitely showing an understanding of the right shapes and designs for a contender – it’s all in the details though, and those definitely need refinement. The light in the dark here is Sleipnir, able to take down Arcade Queen, despite it being a clamp vs wedge matchup, and then losing a functional toss-up versus Backstab 2.5. When Mole takes a bit more time to refine his designs, expect him to quickly vault into contention. He does get to hold the dubious honor of being the only 0-5 robot that has RPed for every single match. So like, serious props for persevering man, love the attitude.

It's been a bad start for my machines and the sudden FF's from Week 3 I think was because I went to the Netherlands for a few days holiday. I feel the draw of the group has been unfortunate for some of my machines, but lets hope I can make a good U turn and get back in form.

You know, I may have to adopt the "Monochrome Box of Sadness" as an actual nickname. :v:

I'm a little annoyed that I lost with DOA again to an Exploit-Bot that would probably snap in half down the middle in real life, but to be honest- the convoluted plan this time was pretty much the only shot I had at getting past the scoop, and it did at least stop me from being KOed, so there was that. Hopefully though, seeing it's a spinner-on-spinner fight next, I can get another win for it there.

I should go 3-1 this week but it'll probably be something like 0-4 or 0-5.

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.
