Thwedge vs. Uplifting Experience 2

Middleweight
Uplifting Experience 2
Armour: 6
Weapon: 7
Speed: 6
Torque: 3

Thwedge:
Speed: 9
Armour: 7 (+1 wedge, -1 elsewhere)
Torque: 6
Weapon: 0

This isn't a great match-up for me, because UE2 could flip me all over the arena and win a JD based on strategy and aggression or even damage if Daniel gets me into the hazards. However, I do have several advantages:
I am 3 points faster, but our speed/traction ratios are equal, so I won't be uncontrolled in comparison to UE2, allowing me to utilise my speed advantage to dodge the front and ram it from the sides or rear. Also Thwedge works identically either way up, so if it flips me then there's not much difference to the match other than some points for UE2, but due to my speed advantage I never plan to go near the front of the robot. My thwack should do some damage to his armour too, or enough to win me the damage category anyway because it put a dent in 8-point armour earlier this season, so with a few hits it should noticeably make some difference against 6-point armour. If I am ever on the flipper, spin quickly to try and knock myself away. I doubt the top spikes will trap me due to my large wheels.

Summary:
- Use speed advantage to reach sides and rear.
- Get underneath and hit with thwack while ramming to pulverisers.
- Try and stay away from flipper.

Good luck Dan! :)

Dan
S: 6 - 9 (Lewis' advantage)
W: 7 - 0* (draw)
A: 6 - 7 (Lewis' advantage)
T: 3 - 6 (Lewis' advantage)

*Technically 7 due to overhead thwack rule ((Speed + Torque)/2)

Eeeeep!

OK, looking at Thwedge it immediately reminds me of last season's runner up Sovereign, and we all know that Sovereign can be beaten. The hinged wedge on the front of Thwedge should be no match for my sprung wedge, so the focus will be on getting underneath Thwedge as soon as possible. As soon as I can get underneath it, Thwedge will not be able to act as a rotational thwack machine and will therefore be limited in its attacks on me. As soon as I get underneath, flip. The more potential damage I can do to Thwedge the more the match will go in my favour. By flipping Thwedge over and over again, I can reduce the amount of time it has to attack me and recouperate from an earlier attack.

A breakdown of the stats shows that in every single category I am either beaten or equal with Thwedge. This may make it appear one sided but on closer inspection Thwedge's advantages may end up hindering it in this competition. With a speed of 9 and only 2 wheels, there must surely be some control issues apparent, especially if Thwedge has to come in on the attack. Granted that I also have 2 wheels, my speed stat is a little more modest and as a result there are fewer issues associated with control, allowing me to get the flipper and the front sprung wedge into play a lot more without any unforced errors.

Thwedge's 7-stat armour applies only to that: the armour. It does not apply to the big wheels on either side of the main chassis of the machine. Due to their size they will eventually get some form of damage, especially if I manage to drive Thwedge into the arena hazards, or through constant flipping. If I am given the opportunity in the match to exploit Thwedge's exposed wheels, I will certainly take it. I will attempt to drive Thwedge towards the arena drum and hope that the impact between the drum and the wheel will be great enough to rip a wheel clean off the axle, or even damage it enough to hinder Thwedge's manoeuvrability.

If Thwedge decides to behave like a rotational thwack bot instead of an overhead thwack, I will keep UE2 away from it. Even though Thwedge's actions are more likely to gain it aggression points, it cannot come in on the attack when spinning around. As soon as it stops, UE2 will charge and slam into Thwedge with the sprung wedge.

RECAP:

* Keep the front facing Thwedge at all times and get the sprung wedge underneath the annoying axlebot.
* Flip Thwedge about and hope to damage the wheels. Use arena drum if necessary.
* 9 speed and 2 wheels = control issues?
* Do not attack it when spinning - allow it to waste time and battery power.

Good luck Lewis!! :D
