Erm... The top view show it being a box, but the side view shows it has wedging all around.

So is this supposed to be a thwackbot? The shape of the bot and the drive system don't seem the most efficent in that case.

I should go 3-1 this week but it'll probably be something like 0-4 or 0-5.

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.

Considering Slasher's good run in the All-Stars tournament, I've resurrected the design to compete in the new FF (and possibly in new ARC as well). Therefore, here's what I got.

I'm also doing three new designs for the new FF, as well, and almost done with a potentially innovative new SHW. We'll see how it goes.

Why not be crazy and use either Reflector Shield or Force Field?

EDIT: Also, with Slasher's rear wheels being exposed, a serious spinner could mess you up...

Also, here'll be my stats:

Mineswept Away:
Armor: 8
Speed: 7
Traction: 7
Weapon: 0

Y-Combat:
Armor: 5
Speed: 5
Torque: 1
Weapon: 11

Annihilation:
Armor: 6
Speed: 4
Torque: 3
Weapon: 13

TVW:
Armor: 5
Speed: 4
Torque: 5
Weapon: 8 (+4 due to it being a power hammer)

I think instead of using Y-Combat, it would have saved you some time to just ask John for the original CAD.

He didn't have the original CAD, as it was when he was using a trial version of Rhino. Also, I wanted there to be at least some difference.

Slasher looks great. As far as the exposed wheels at the rear go, I'm sure it'll be fast enough to negate that problem. Some of the best anti-spinners in the RFL have exposed wheels much worse than that. Also, definitely does not look like an RA2 pop-up.

Palatine: The 11 armor is cool and all but remeber one thing; when you design to beat a specific type of bot you generally leave yourself open to other types. Steve went that route one time with Untouchable. It worked great against spinners but got brutalized by anything resembling a wedge or lifter. You may be good against spinners but the MW class is also saturated with fast lifters. You may get lucky in FF since it is single elim and draw all spinners but don't get your hopes up.

As for Y-Combat: I never had any of my first few season's CAD files. I think the oldest one I have is the first version of Sovereign. I did Y-Combat for him because at least he asked my permission to copy my bot and it gave me the opportunity to make sure it was designed right and did justice to the original design.
The unforeseen consequences of ABC's Battlebots selection process:

1999: Shadetree tinkerer sees combat robots made from wheelchair parts and old tire rims; says I can do this. Hobby robotic combat is born.

2016: Shadetree tinkerer sees combat robots that look like they were designed by NASA engineers with DARPA funding; says I can't do this. Hobby robotic combat dies.

To be honest, I don't concern myself with simple things like exposed wheels anymore. Would it be better to give him wheel guards? Probably, but I just design them the way I see them. I'm less concerned with success nowadays and just more concerned with making bots I'm proud of and/or bots to experiment with. I just think he looks better like that, but I still might change him around a little bit. Small tweaks, though, nothing major.

Slasher looks really cool, as do all of Mark's entries :)

Out of interest, is the next season going to be soon after this one like Reckoning > Carnage or a longer wait like Carnage > Aftermath?

Yes. I've learned to ask before copying, as it got me in a bit of trouble on FRA...

Also, the design just spoke to me for some reason. I don't know why, but I know I really felt I could use it in ARC: Apocalypse(Hey, I'm just throwing out a name), so I kindly asked John if I could copy it(with a different name and paint scheme), and he surprisingly said "Yes." I'm still very grateful towards him for letting me use an X-Combat clone, and making all my CADs for ARC: Apocalypse(Again, just a filler name).

It depends. Obviously we don't want to run the next tournament directly alongside FF.

Oh trust me, modern day RA2 popups look just like that
they have blade arms, and lifters below, both fired at once to crush the oponent. They've evolved alot since IO and 2IO

Yes but Slasher doesn't "fire" persay. The lifter is controlled in the style of Shazbot / Breaker Box. You know, like a real fighting robot governed by the laws of real physics.

oh, well, popups, like IO "could" be done IRL, provided IO is realistic, although the ends of the spikes would have to be pointed up for damage.

I got frustrated working on Return of Feedback so I knocked up what might be my new heavyweight

Automaton is basically a regular wedge, but it has two racks of 'razor strips' (running on the same motor) that can rotate upwards and aid in hooking and controlling robots. Then there are the obvious two wedge arms that have 360 degrees of rotation that serve as the main lifter.

THAT is an IRL popup
