0-3 well dang

who puts a hazard in the center of arena to stop box rushing
I do.

The idea is to encourage some actual creative strategy. Apparently, that seems to be anathema to some people's way of conceiving of vapourbot combat.

Argh. Well, that House Robot Rebellion didn't go to plan at all. Whoever was supposed to be driving Clawstrophia, it might've helped if you'd actually done something instead of falling on your arse and leaving me to fight two robots at once. ^o)

Yup. On the bright side though, at least the Flipper Frenzy went quite well! Finished Second despite being the slowest bot in the field, chucked everyone around and got someone out of the arena, and restored my faith in TVC in general. Well done to Hellfire for the overall win!

Hoo boy... RPs in.

So... I noticed something in the FB vs. CP thread:

NWOWWE said that:

Quote:

That seems a bit odd to me since the drill itself is actually weaker than my armor so it won't actually be able to cause any damage to me whatsoever. Technically speaking not even cosmetic damage.

The rules page for CBC states that:
Quote:

Circular saws and drills must be mounted on some form of articulating attachment and will automatically take (armour value) x 2 seconds to pierce an opposing robot's armour if held against it. Every point put into a sawblade weapon reduces the piercing time by one second and enables it to sink .5 inches deeper into an enemy bot. For example, a six power sawblade against 10 armour would take fourteen seconds to pierce and would sink three inches deep, while a ten power sawblade against 7 armour would take 4 seconds (similar to Red Devil vs. Witch Doctor) and sink five inches deep. For the purpose of writing matches, piercing depth will be roughly equivalent to corner damage (i.e. 3 inches pierced = 3 corner damage).

It doesn't appear to say anything about the absolute relative weapon-armor score affecting drills and saws. Which is accurate? Is my drill capable of damaging him or not?

Obviously if it isn't than GG was closet, but given that this featherweight group is full of bricks I really want clarification on this so I can RP properly for Firebird's future matches.

Alright, that's all my stuff up. Hopefully if I'm reasonably lucky, it'll go a bit better than last week. :P

In particular, I'm really looking forward to seeing how the Team Battle goes. Never fought in one of those on here before!

Just a heads' up to the writers: Peskius was allowed an extension, so his RPs, though technically late, will be considered valid.

I should go 3-1 this week but it'll probably be something like 0-4 or 0-5.

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.

Mind you, it's still a bit early to tell at this point- it's only the second week of the competition, so you never know, it might do better later on. Captain Anarchy for instance, almost wrote that one off because it lost to bricks three times in a row in the first three weeks, and then it went on to make the Playoffs undefeated after that. So keep trying, and you might still do OK with it yet.

And if all else fails, there's still a market for it in the field of fancy topiary. :P

The problem with Laceration is that 5 power for any sort of crushing weapon just isn't going to do any damage, and ramming with 6 power just won't get through the armor of almost any robot, so it doesn't have a way of using its intended attack mode. And while ordinarily a crusher that isn't strong enough still works well as a clamp, because Laceration's jaws only open to 45 degrees it will be very difficult for it to grip most opponents in its weight class. Finally, the jaws are in the middle of the chassis height, making the bot vulnerable to vertical spinners and anything with a wedge. With 11 weapon armor it can still do decently against some horizontal spinners (14 power or less), but stronger ones will get easy corner damage on the claws and rip them off.

That said, I think Laceration will have an easy win against Yeager, and possibly Death Metal because they're so darn slow.

I may re-design Laceration and give it an upgrade at some point, I may need to find points to work on the new version though, what if I turned around the weapon in a more vertical way round change the weapon design and the chassis itself.

I definitely think a vertical approach would work better: this would allow you to use the jaws as a wedge and lifter, and let you clamp opponents without opening the jaws absurdly far.

One thing to consider if you do that is to put the whole weapon assembly on an unpowered pivot with angle limiters; this way you can have it work fine right-side-up or upside-down, and you can lift shit with it without it removing your front wheels from the ground.

Alternately, what if you redesigned the weapon and based it on that crazy chainsaw jaw arm from Fullmetal Alchemist?

That's sounds like a good idea, I reckon I could do with a piercing tip on the end of the jaw to give some extra grip on the opponent.
