I had a really good idea for my own arena called "The Prism" It's a 30,000 capacity arena where the crowd will get to see the intense action of robots beating the stuffing out of each other. And not the mention it'll be British. Would it be possible to make different rules such as a maximum number on the stats of your robot, or even have a pit :). This is only a futuristic idea.. and it's not confirmed yet. |

Capacity doesn't matter, only about 50 or so people ever show up to our fights. Yeah, that can probably be accommodated. Of course you may discover that tweaking with the stats can be a slippery slope so I'd be careful how much you want to tweak with them to retain maximum potential interest. Get killed. Okay, I'll be serious. I'm not an advocate for a pit as a hazard for reasons you can easily find in threads elsewhere. But hey, it's your arena and I won't be the "I'm blacklisting your tournament cause your using a pit" guy like I threatened to do in the past.

Broadly speaking, unless you're planning something radically different from the traditional style (kind of like Chris did with Reign of Steel), I probably wouldn't consider messing with the stat formula too much. Even Chris kept things mostly traditional on the stat side of things. I mean yeah we've constantly been tweaking them for years, but there's rarely and radical changes all at once. For an arena, by all means be creative. I'm actually liking the concept that each "brand" of tournament (Ruination, Crazy Bots, FRR, etc.) has basically trended to each having their own unique arena(s). However, here are some useful suggestions: -Don't design an arena where a Pit or Oota area is easy to access/use. As seen with Lumina Cloth, no one likes it and fights become far too one-dimensional. -Don't make the arena overly cluttered, as seen on arena's like the New Crazy Bots Arena or the original Casino Night Zone. Hazards are cool. Hazards nearly everywhere you step? Not so much.

Or at least, too easy. With regards to an OOTA zone, you could potentially have it only on one/two sides, or have the wall lower once to let them back in (With a 10 second time limit in which to do so.), and then eliminate them if they get thrown out again. As for the Pit, I was thinking of having one in an Arena I'd designed- as with Series 4 (RW), it would only open after 1:30 or 2:00 into the fight, or when a robot is immobilised, so it can't necessarily be relied upon for the whole match. And yes, not having too many hazards is good, too. It's important that the competitors have room to manoeuvre and carry out their strategies as effectively as possible without having to dance around the hazards too much.

Ah..that's a big relief then :)... If it was One sided it wouldn't be fair at all so I don't want that to happen... Maybe I could come up with some "new" hazards or something... can you show me examples of the other ARC's arena's |

You're right... I was even thinking about when the pit would descend... Do it like in RW Series 4. I'm thinking at 2:00 minutes. The walls will be filled with bulletproof material so no Oota's will occur + too avoid one siders |

Well the current ARC Arena has basically been the same forever except for the "Center Nail" era. Alas I don't know if there are any pictures of it any more. In short it featured a flat-headed pin located in the middle of the arena. The idea was to discourage rammers from flat-out boxrushing other bots which, all snarkyness aside, I believe it actually had reasonable success at. That same arena also featured a pair of side chambers, one of which had a large floor spinner in it, and the other had a wall puncher. Finally that arena was also circular in shape, which actually hasn't been done much. The only other one I can think of is Lumina Cloth. This thread: http://s10.zetaboards.com/Drowning_City_Forums/topic/7473348/1/#new provides the arenas that Kody featured in Ruination. And of course this thread: http://s10.zetaboards.com/Drowning_City_Forums/topic/7508262/ is the current Crazy Bots Arena (take fewer notes from this one... no offense Lian )

Hmm so many ideas to think of... For the middle of my arena I was thinking a bunch of small blockers that could raise up and down for a few seconds, like an obstacle. The reason is to try and stop the rammers make a head on charge and the drivers need to time it right in order to make a good attack. I was also thinking one mallet weapon which could have a spiked tip in front to make some holes on top of the robots or better yet puncture a tyre. That's what I thought of so far |

Hmmm... I suppose the first idea is kind like a more elaborate version of the Center Nail concept. I wouldn't mind seeing a visual of exactly how you'd apply it. As for the second one... "This season, the pulzerizor means business!"

The hazards I personally considered using for my Arena (I may come back to it sometime.) were- - Killsaws - Ramrods (Sets of Pneumatic Spikes that came up in groups of six from a small area on the Arena Floor. Mostly for lifting, impaling, and potentially flipping robots from underneath.) - Pulverisers (Two, in adjacent corners.) - Pit of Despair (Relatively small in comparison to the Arena at about 4 foot square, but still big enough to be a noticeable threat. Whilst it has raised edges to make it slightly more difficult to push opponents in, it lowers at about 2:00 or when a robot is immobilised, and gradually fills with fog from in-built smoke machines aimed at the bottom as it sits open, as seen in the video below. This serves not only to make it more visible to the competitors, but also to give it a cool furnace-like effect, particularly as a robot drops in.) http://youtu.be/4NxpOjX21iY?t=5m9s - Drop Zone (The OOTAing area. The other three sides of the Arena are enclosed, but this one has a separate lowered pocket for throwing opponents into. Designed to be high enough to keep robots in, but low enough for a strong enough Flipper or Vertical Spinner to flip an opponent into.) |

Hmm, so it seems like it's a case of either one or the other. Have hazards, bricks dominate. Don't have hazards, uber-spinners do instead.
