Since it was Philip who wrote those Clown Breath fights and he was in on the decision to re-write those particular fights, so that is VERY MUCH in line with what is going on here. Bringing up the Clown Breath fights has nothing to do directly with your's and Kody's fights and the whole thing was NOT just changing your results. And the weeks after the fact mostly stemmed from there seeming to be a rash of question

Also, the core staff were all involved in deciding what fights to be re-written. You and Kody were out of the loop on that one because 1. it was done by Chris and myself with Philip over the phone so there was no way to include you directly in that, and 2. the general mood of the tournament at that time dictated that you and Kody take a breather week or so to help keep the whole tournament from imploding. Obviously we didn't handle it the best way and the whole idea ended up being scrapped.

Perhaps I'm taking this whole thing so seriously (not my O'Malley fight requests, those were mostly meant to be sarcastic) is that after having my staff abilities given about every insult under the sun from Spatula (for which I've never been given any clear rational for either), I'm rather shocked that he would basically strip someone of a win for something that wasn't their fault and he didn't seem all that bothered about giving a clear justification for it. A couple people noticed the error in the fight and (for all appearances) just silently went about completely reversing the call.

I should go 3-1 this week but it'll probably be something like 0-4 or 0-5.

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.

So my victory was overturned simply cause someone thought my bot was clusterbot when it blatantly isn't.

Gee, thanks...

How is making a mistake about the very nature of the robot not a justification for it? From what it sounds like, that's completely in line with what you were in favor of during Aftermath.

Just as you say that your shocked that someone would be stripped of a win for something that wasn't their fault, I think that pretty clearly applies to Kody too, since the very reason why Stabstract won (stated several times) was the fact that it was a multibot that had use of 30 points per bot (which is obviously overpowered). But it's not that. And it's not fair to Kody that he lose that fight because of it.

Its weirder to me that people would just stand around and let a fight be grossly incorrect. Its a dumb mistake that was corrected within a day of the results being posted.

Yeah "simply" lol. The fight was overturned "simply" because it had a massively glaring error.

I think this is not a big deal. Josh clearly has other things on his mind, and this is a convenient excuse to bring up old laundry.

Lian, I'm really sorry I gave you a win like that and took it away. Someone was going to be dissatisfied whether I changed it or left it, and I felt in that situation I might as well rather have an outcome for the fight that was fair. I've made a big deal about realism in the fights and I couldn't allow a fight with such a huge error to hang around my neck like an albatross like that. Is there anything I can do to make you feel better about it?

I would like add though, you did say people would have been pissed off had you left it, but it was infact the opposite, every seemed to find it absolutely hilarious. If you were confused at the design on whether it was a cluster or not, it would have been a lot better if you had come to me to clear that up, as Stabstract has never been a clusterbot, heck I believe you even fought him once.

I will say this, I don't mind losing to Teresa, it's just what's hacked me the fuck off is that I get a victory snatched away like that when it wasn't even my fault.

What I find most depressing about this is that the outcome started out utterly hilarious, and worthy of one of my favourite fights ever just for the absurdity of it. Of course, I was going to bring it up later on anyway, but I didn't care who won or lost the rewrite.

Now everybody's sniping at each other over a fight my bot was in, which makes my big-ass post in the Metagame Analysis thread ironic and utterly pointless, apparently. And I do feel incredibly bad for Lian now, which in turn makes me feel worse. But what can I say? I have no clue who's right or wrong here since I've been talking to both sides, and I just want the bitching to stop.

I'll be back later to check out what's become of this forum. :v: Play nice, people...

If that's what he thought was the case wouldn't Nick have been more like to consider Stabstract disqualified? Clearly a 30 point multi-bot would be an illegal design.

And the point is, how is it any more fair to strip Lian of a win? What if this was the last week of the season and Stabstract needed that win to get into the playoffs? Ooops, sorry Lian, you WERE in the playoffs, but now you aren't... at least the other guy is happy now! Yeah nothing wrong with that right?

This is simply not true. The only reason I even brought up the old stuff about Clown Breath was because both you and Alex tried the "well what if it was YOUR bot" approach, and I brought that up to show that yes I HAVE been in that position. And it's important to remember that while yes, I DID request a re-write of the fights in question, I specifically did NOT demand that the decisions themselves be reversed, I just wanted Philip not to be completely wrong about how Clown Breath worked.

And HINT HINT NUDGE NUDGE that's the exact position I was taking here. I was completely fine with the result being modified to make sense in relation to Stabstract, but was not sold on such a carefree approach to changing the entire decision.

But no, go on thinking that I have ulterior motives because you've always thought I've been full of shit. You look good with your foot in your mouth, just jam it in there nice and tight.

What if? What if you voted for your own match in the playoffs? What if it was week 12? But it doesn't matter because it's not. Its week 2, and the day of the results getting posted. That hypothetical has no bearing on what actually happened.

You know what? You can fucking shut up about that whole "voted for your own bot" as something you want to hold over my head. It's a fact that Kody voted for his own bots several times with that system but you've never said one word to him about that or held it against him at all s don't use it against me just because you find it convenient to do so. Yes I voted for Tali in that fight, and in large part because you made wrong assumptions about how the wedge setup worked and parts of your strategy depended on you being right about it.

Quite frankly your the only one right now who has an old ax to grind and is using it to color your current argument.

I brought up Clown Breath because you asked "what if it was me" and I used it to show what I did WHEN it was me.

And what do mean Stabstracts win was completely undeserved? You're directly implying that there is no way that Stabstract could beat Teresa and that's absolutely not true.

Hmm, then why are you bringing up the fights from Aftermath, or a result I wrote in this tournament that's totally unrelated to the Stabstract/Teresa match? Could it be because it's just convenient for you to do so?

Did you not read my whole post? I brought up the CB fights as a specific example of what I did in the same position as Lian, not to gripe about them.

And the O'Malley fights were brought up as a sarcastic joke. I'll admit I could have made that clearer.

If you have actual questions and concerns about your fight you can bring them up to the writer, instead of passively aggressively posting them in the main thread under the guise of a joke.

If you think me making specific and detailed jokes like that is unusual then you haven't been paying close enough attention to me the last 10 years :v:

It was a sarcastic observation that you could find obvious "mistakes" with any fight. I just used the O'Malley fights because they were close fights and yeah I was feeling a little vindictive.

The point of this is that the mistake is much larger than something like "I skidding too far for what my traction stat says".

Spatula thought that Stabstract would just barely win when it was a multibot, obviously he thought it would lose otherwise. That's on him to change. Its a rare event for a writer to make a mistake so catastrophically wrong, so when you compare it to something like O'Malley's fights, it doesn't make any sense, especially considering the fact that the writer stands by those results. That's obviously not to say that a writer can just change results whenever he feels like it, but when the mistake is that large and would literally sway the outcome of the fight. Ticky tack calls and writer's discretion can explain away a lot of the 23-22 or whatever, but if I were to have Jack Frost failing against FLIP THIS!! because I felt his flipper was ineffectual, obviously the result would have to be changed.

Welp, I've some time to reflect on the rather animated discussion that's gone on in this thread today and I must confess I'm not very proud of my part in it. So what I'd like to do is give some kind of apology and hopefully make my point in a far less confrontational manner.

Now first off I must make clear that I'm not going to specifically apologize for opposing what happened to Stabstact since I still do feel that Lian got a raw deal. However, I did not go about it in the right manner at all. And my O'Malley joke was definitely ill-timed I'll admit. It was also coming from a rather bitter place that really didn't have anything to do especially with either you or Alex and was wrong to make it part of the larger issue.

Now why didn't I handle things better? Well it probably has mostly to do with irl situations. It's been a fairly hectic time the last few weeks. Not necessarily stressful (only occasionally but that can only be expected :v: ), but when you're working 2 jobs and working at least one of them nearly every day of the week and both of them far more often than I'd really like, you just never have the time to unwind and the monotony of waking up, going to work, going to work part II, then coming home and maybe having a small window of time to unwind with something fun before you just have to go to sleep, and then repeating the next day and so on just starts to wear on you after awhile. It can really start to affect your mood after awhile. Now I've generally taken pride in being a reasonably easygoing person and if I come across as overly sarcastic at times you can rest assured it's mostly played up for laughs (Chris could reasonably attest to this). I've also spent a long time over the years talking Chris's ear off with any complaints and issues I've had with the going-on's of ARC and I'm very thankful that he's mostly been able to put up with it since it tends to keep me from letting it spill over to the main forums. It's been a pretty useful outlet and there's been plenty of times he's been able to put things back in perspective and show how foolishly I was looking at things.

Unfortunately I don't get to hang out with Chris anywhere near as regularly as years ago due to a larger geographical separation, and since I don't like to just bottle things away, things like today can happen, and unfortunately for me it's been happening far too often lately. I ended up jumping down Philip's throat way too much when he came back and what used to be one or two post back and forth light ribbing became a pages long heated argument that went nowhere.

So first I'll address Alex. I think that smaller issues here and there building up over the long years of ARC, so that every time something new gets added on it makes everything that's already stacked up start shaking around even worse. I've had results of mine that you've written that I've taken issue with and vice-versa, but if I think about it objectively can I really say that you've written any more disagreeable results for me than any other results writer has? It's very unlikely. So I don't know why I should hold those ones any more bitterly than someone else's. I'm more than willing to just wipe that slate clean. All those results are long over and done with so it really doesn't serve to fixate on them forever.

Now Nick. Well I can't entirely say that at least some part of my comments directed towards you were fueled by your assessment of me as a bottom-of-the-barrel staff member. I can't lie, those comments hurt, and perhaps even more since there wasn't any clear rationale given. And I certainly don't enjoy knowing that someone I know holds such a low opinion, in fact that's one of the things that hurts me the most. As I said awhile back in some thread or other, I was particularly devastated when Joey had his rather abrupt falling out with ARC community. I had enjoyed many a pleasant Messanger conversation and considered him as much a friend as I would anyone else on ARC and then to be suddenly dismissed for reasons that to this day I'm not entirely sure about (and not even in a direct fashion) was horrible. And quite frankly I would not want anything like that to happen here. I don't want an argument over something as intangible as ARC results to make you (or anyone else for that matter) have reason to hate or dislike me.

I mean most of us have been here for a few years now (some more than others) and even though we live in many different parts of the globe I'd like to think that we've been a close enough community that if an ARCcon were to happen next week, no one would flat-out refuse to attend if they could. Regardless of whatever I've ever said to anyone here in an argument or was said to me, I can't think of any member here that I would not be glad to play host to.

So ultimately, whatever gets decided about this particular incident, or whatever the next incident is (and invariably there will be one because no one is perfect and most of us do tend to be reasonably competitive  ) I'm sure we can find a more reasonable method of dealing with it and I will definitely work on not being part of the problem anymore.

I should go 3-1 this week but it'll probably be something like 0-4 or 0-5.

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.
