-Okay, Rufus has advantages in the Drive categories, no doubt, but that's nothing that can't be worked around. A big thing will be what set-up he uses.

  • Pushing Scoop w/ optional spike: Probably not likely. The wedge part has very little leverage and the spike is a bit too high to hit Final Boss with any real impact.
  • Copperhead plow: Again, not much in terms of leverage against another wedge and it's utterly useless if he gets flipped over.
  • Reversible Wedge: Interestingly he doesn't say hinged wedge, but let's just kind of assume it is. As such it's far and away his most likely option (hint: caption reads "For fighting flippers"). Of course it would have to be more of a "swivel" wedge. with those bolts being loose/long enough to allow it to rotate (I'm not quite sure HOW it can rotate based on bot shape but whatever).

-If he uses one of the first two set-ups (or it's determined that Reversible wedge =/= hinged wedge) then I should have a fairly easy time getting under him. Get under him early and often and flip him till I can't flip him any more and knock him into hazards and shit.

-If that Reversible wedge is hinged in some fashion, getting under him will be a bit trickier, but I think I should still have a leverage advantage. As an 8 wheeled bot he's not getting much weight pushing that wedge into the floor. So try a head to head meeting and try and force my way under him. If I do, flip him once my flipper arm reaches under his main body and try and invert him. This'll test the "reversibility" of that wedge, plus just disorient him in general.

-Get back to him and wedge him as quickly as I can and try and flip him into the hazards. If he looks like he's going to drive off, just flip him anywhere. As much as I can, stay aggressive and keep him airborne. Try and keep the flipper facing him at all times (though with my all around skirting it's not a guarantee he'd get under me even if he does get to my sides, plus as an 8 wheeled bot he won't have the most smooth turning either).

-If I need to use some angle-in tactics to get under his wedge, definitely do so. I should be able to exploit his slower turning ability to do so.

-Don't let him lure me to the hazards obviously. If he wedges me, try and J-hook away and then get right back on the attack. It's a pretty straightforward gameplan overall, but in fights like this keeping things simple is usually the best course of action.

Good Luck!

I should go 3-1 this week but it'll probably be something like 0-4 or 0-5.

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.

Well, looks like the last of my fights with Josh this week. As tough as he is, I feel I have a slightly more reasonable chance at beating Final Boss than Baldy McPingas, but I'll have to see how it goes.

Analysis
All right, he's certainly improved a lot since I fought him with Mamba back in CBBR two years ago. Upgraded to 16 bits rather than 8, has a Flipper rather than the slow Lifter he had previously, got the skirts all-round, and most tellingly, he's been improved stat-wise every way. Simply put, he's one tough son of a bitch!

Fortunately, I've got a few things that work in my favour as well. I have him considerably beaten in terms of drive- I'm faster, have two points of traction over him, and most tellingly, I have twice his torque. As such, I'll be able to shove him around without a great deal of resistance once I'm under, even more so with his low ground clearance- it keeps him protected for the most part, but as soon as I'm under- his wheels will be lifted off the ground, and he'll be helpless.
At the same time- his corners are pretty vulnerable to being snuck under due to how they're laid out, and he doesn't really have anything to keep me from monster-trucking over him besides the flipper. With that- even if I don't get under immediately, I can still avoid his flipper by driving over him.

Strategy
Reversible Wedge for this fight, please.

Anyhow, game on- quite literally, in this case. Move out quickly, approach at an angle, and go for one of his corners so that I'll be able to get underneath more easily. Avoid going head-on, as getting flipped so soon is not exactly in my best interests.

Once I'm under, I'll want to start pushing him around as soon as I can. Keep underneath as much as I can, and prioritise taking him to the Drum/Killsaws first to flip him and/or damage his skirts, and make it easier for me to get underneath him again each time. From there, focus on slamming him into the walls/hazards (Try using the wedge walls and Drum to flip him!), boxing him into the corners with the Pulverisers to pound his 7-armoured lid in, and generally being as controlled and relentless as I can.

Defence mostly comes down to taking steps to avoid the flipper, and being able to escape and counter each time he attacks. Keep constantly moving, and be unpredictable- try to come at him from a different corner or sufficiently damaged area with each charge. He doesn't really have anything to keep me trapped besides the Flipper, so if I notice he's starting to get under, use my speed and wheel arrangement to drive over him before he can fire the flipper.
My interlocking steering and reversible hinged wedge mean I won't be too badly affected by a flip, but I'm not taking any chances. Avoid head-on collisions if I can, push back against him if he somehow gets me pinned under the flipper, and make sure to keep clear of the hazards when I'm not taking him to them myself.

Overall, my drive will be my greatest ally in this battle. Get underneath him, take out his skirts first, and from there utilise the environment and my torque to be completely ruthless and gradually break him down. We're both pretty hardy machines, so a KO from either side seems unlikely, but I do hope to be able to beat him on Damage/Aggression and Strategy, that'd be great.

Hopefully this'll be enough. Good luck, Josh.
